As the election fever rages on, a cheery Yumeko is back on the hunt for her next gambling opponent. Meanwhile, Mary and her pending friendship with Ririka brings them face-to-face with another member of the Momobami family, but a greater threat by the name of Rin Obami awaits, reeking of fraud and scumcoins. Will this odd duo be able to keep their cool in front of a pro swindler?!
What a bunch of con artists. We have Rin and Ibara doing whatever it was they were doing while I was assuming that this manga was one huge lesbian cult. Overall, it was a great game, and I think I started to like Ririka too. Oh my God, I have an obsession with each of them.
Now that we’re past the content covered by the anime series I was very intrigued to see what happened next.
In this volume we get introduced to Rin Obami and take a delve into his background which is complex and chaotic (as you would expect in this crazy manga)! We also see more of Ibara and his little secret which was nice but for me, the show stealer was Riraki who I love!! (No surprise there as I love Kirari :)) The blossoming friendship between Mary Saotome and Riraki is developed and explored in further detail and I am definitely rooting for them!
I will say I was pretty disappointed by the lack of Yumeko and Suzui in this volume and the gambling match wasn’t anywhere near as exciting or thrilling as certain past exploits.
I still thoroughly enjoy the series and hope the next volume cranks up the drama and tension.
I like that this manga makes a point of including a complete multi-chapter game of chance in each volume, giving the outcome right away instead of using it as a cliffhanger for the next volume. That can backfire though when the game is boring or involves students of the gambling academy I don't care about, and this one has a really dull game between only secondary and tertiary characters.
My only consolation is that the preview for the next volume hints this long election arc may be coming to an end soon. It has resulted in three bad volumes in a row, and I'm starting to think I may be done with this series unless it does something dramatic to pull out of this nosedive.
3.5** Ririka Momobami finally takes the spotlight and is one of my favorite characters now. What a queen. The head pat scene was everything. My heart is weak for their “friendship” (I want them to kiss).
This high stakes for characters we don’t care about volumes are trash. The game was interesting but I literally couldn’t care less who won or lost. Can’t wait for this election arc to be over. I thought Yumeko was too perfect all the time but dang do I miss her already.
I really like this volume because we really got to see more information on Rin and Ibara Obami, when they seemed like more minor characters in the second season of the anime. It was very cute to see just how much loyalty and dedication Ibara had for his brother as well as interesting to see that his level of honesty is frowned upon. It was also very cool to see Ririka become more confident in herself as well as assert herself and become more of an individual apart from her twin: Kirari.
Scumcoin complicates the student council election even further in ways that might make the plot more exciting (especially with that next volume tease). I think the currency also gave great insight into Rin's character, and by extension, Ibara's trust in him. Their dynamic likely hadn't been completely established when the second season of the anime was being planned, but there were hints that Kawamoto drew out in this volume. It helped flesh them out in a subtly homosocial way.
The gamble also pivoted away from Yumeko and brought a character further into the limelight after her mysterious "first appearance:" Ririka. I'm excited to see what else this series will do in order for her to find her own footing in not being defined by her twin. The game of War was a great start. Although a more stationary gamble, how one of the twists was set up was very smart. It almost flew over my head.
Finally passed the Season 2 of the anime, and thank goodness for that! The election arc is still going on but the gamble in this was amazing, it had stakes and was just wonderful!
Yumeko seems to have been sidelined again in favor of Mary and the vice president, it's a welcome change of pace. As the vice president is the main focus, you aren't quite sure of the outcome. There was a reveal in this, that was so clever that I didn't even see it coming.
I really hope this series, keeps this momentum as the arc has been wavering in predictability.
Well, that was quite the turn around in opinion from last volume to this volume. Dare I saw the gayest volume yet between Ibara and Rin AND THEN MARY AND RIRIKA. Mary and Ririka are gonna me my otp of the series. The election battles are also ramping up really well. I’m excited to continue.

This volume's gamble was not only interesting but had quite the backstory for certain characters. I feel like I should have liked this volume more- but I think I'm losing steam with the whole family plot line in general.
I really liked this one! We got to see more of ririka and I’m so excited to see her and kirari together! I have some suspicions about them but we’ll see.
After a less-than-ideal second venture through Yumemi Yumemite's character and what she wishes to keep on doing, Kakegurui manages to go back in full-force to some of the best chapters yet.
