Holy Cliffhanger Batman! I have to know what happens next!

Ok, I will admit that it has been a long time since I have seen Aladdin I didn’t see much similarities between this book and that tale. Other than a few tweaks on some of the names, so maybe detailing the similarities in this review will help. Not that this book isn’t really good in it’s own right. I did like the book quite a bit, and I am getting to like cliffhangers a lot more than I used to. Especially if they are spectacular ones like this one was.

The two main characters are Axel Reed who is an illegal fighter who comes from the other side of the tracks and has mostly lived outside the law, and Jaslyn Astor a rich girl with long straight black hair whose father has recently died. Axel is the Aladdin character, which makes sense because Aladdin was poor and a thief (outside the law). Jaslyn, the Jasmine character was also rich (a princess) Jafar wanted to marry her.

In this story Jaslyn’s father was rich because he was a hear surgeon who created a medical device that saved thousands and Jasper Lafar worked for her father’s company and helped Jaslyn out after her father died. He talked her into an engagement before showing his true colors and now abuses her physically and verbally.

Jasper hires Axel to fight for him in a deal that is too good to pass up. Axel has no family other than his best friend Rush who he grew up in foster care with. Rush drives him to all his fights in his convertible so I’m thinking Rush represents the genie and the convertible is the magic carpet. So I guess this book does have a lot of similarities to the Aladdin story.

I won’t give away spoilers but to say it is steamy, but not too steamy. It is romantic, and like in Aladdin, Axel comes in to show the sheltered Jaslyn a whole new world outside of the oppressed setting she has been in. Just when it is getting good, BOOM! Cliffhanger….

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Book 1 of 2 from Veiled Love Duet/Sinister Fairytale collection
POV: First Person – Dual
Rating:

Jaslyn Astor grew up in luxury thanks to her father’s success. But his death was a significant blow and changed the life she used to know. Now under the claws of Jasper Lafar, she’s longing for freedom and Axel Reed might be the key to taking back her kingdom.

Aladdin is one of my favorite fairytales, so I was intrigued by this one especially that I love retellings. This one is a modern retelling of the well-loved fairytale.

“Wreak havoc on my world and show me how to survive your destruction.”

I liked how the author interpreted the characters and made them her own. However, the plot was too linear for my preference. I wanted more things happening and better connections/intensity between the characters. My favorite character in this book was actually not the main one. Rush was a supporting character but he stole the scenes every time he’s around. I also loved his comradery with Axel.

Mirage is a story of rising up for your right. It is part of Sinister Fairytale collection and would appeal to readers who enjoy dark romance.

A modern day fairytale twist, CM Radcliff brings us Mirage, a whole new world.

This isn’t your normal fairytale retellings, it’s a a new and unique twist.

Whilst some elements are the same or similar, we get sucked into a world where two souls connect in darkness.

Axel is everything in a book boyfriend that I love. A hard, sarcastic and protective alpha.

Jaslyn, although broken, has an inner strength most of us forget we have.

Their fast paced love was wonderful to see develop, I cannot wait to see how this duet ends.

"I'm not some damsel in distress, Axel, and I don't need your protection."

Girl, stop lying!

Jaslyn grew up with it all - a loving father, wealth, a lavish home, and all the pretty things life has to offer. When her father dies, she's wrecked and turns to the one person who offers her some comfort - Jasper. Unfortunately for her, Jasper is not the man she thought he was. All too soon, he has her completely under his thumb with a ring on her finger and a wedding date looming, looking to tie her down in darkness and devastation forever. Then Axel enters her life. He's an underground street fighter and a knight in shining armor. He quickly sees the abuse that Jaslyn tries to hide and he's willing to do just about anything to save her.

It's a mistake getting in bed with the enemy, but maybe it will get Jaslyn out. She's paralyzed by her fear of him and she deserves to be free.
And I will make a million mistakes to make sure that that happens.

This is the first book I've read from the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection that ends in a cliffhanger. While I've never tried this author before, she quickly wooed me with her words and her fearlessness in describing even the most horrific of scenes. I still don't understand Jaslyn's reasons for staying with Jasper, as her excuses and rationalizations for her actions and rude behavior weren't justified, and in the end, she suffered the fate that was foretold from the start. I adored Axel and even Rush so you better believe I'm looking forward to how this story ends!

Mirage is the sinister version of Aladin and Jasmine.

Jaslyn Aston, daughter of a world-renowned heart surgeon lived her life in luxury. Everything comes down when he dies and she gets manipulated by her fathers right-hand man, and now fiancé, Jasper Lafar. He is wicked and controlling. Axel Reed, born on the wrong tracks has grown up bouncing to and from houses and families. Axel meets Jaslyn on account to Jasper of an opportunity.

Jaslyn and Axel's connection is instant. Jaslyn knew Axel was her hope. While they both started with different feelings, circumstances compels them to each others arms.

Mirage is the first part of the duet series. The book is short and ends with a cliffhanger.

So this is a darkish contemporary Aladdin retelling, it's the first part of a duet but there's not long to wait for the conclusion, April I think.
It's also not a very long read about a couple of hours.
We have Jaslyn the pretty princess in her tower and Axel is the fighter street rat who wants to rescue her from her abusive fiancee Jasper Lafar.
Jasper is an evil and abusive man who controls Jaslyn completely, he is also physically and emotionally cruel and this story does have some dark triggers because of this so please do be aware.
So although this was quite short there was still incredible chemistry between Jaclyn and Axel and I did find this an enjoyable read.
I also really liked the finale here and I will definitely be reading the next part after that.
I think the length did let this down slightly as this was quite short which did limit the connection for me somewhat but I am still invested enough to anticipate where this will be going next.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Mirage (Veiled Love Duet #1).

Jaslyn Astor has enjoyed a privileged life, but after her father’s death, the circumstances change and Jaspar Lafar becomes her caretaker and fiancé. Realizing the mistake she’s made, Jaslyn wants to regain her freedom. As Axel Reed enters her world, Jaslyn recognizes hope but his role just may complicate things.

“I’m not weak, but I’m not strong either. I’m broken.”

Told from dual POV, the storyline shifts between Jaslyn and Axel revealing bits of their background and how they’re becoming attracted to each other. At first, Jaslyn is indifferent toward Axel because she knows he can be trouble, but Axel sees more than Jaslyn allows and he isn’t backing down.

“Fuck,” he mutters as he buries his face in my neck. “You’re the furthest thing from fragile.”

I liked how the fairytale re-telling dynamic was established with these characters, but I definitely wanted to know more about Axel’s background and the reason for Jaslyn’s choice. There was also more telling that showing, which at times slowed down the plot development for me. Adding to the cast is Rush who brings laughs but who also has a deeper story.

Mirage is a dark romance based on the tale of Aladdin and is book one in the Veiled Love Duet.

Mirage is sadly not one of my favorite Sinister Fairytale from the collection. Mirage is a retelling/reimagining of Aladdin. Axel is the bad-boy fighter that falls for Jaslyn the heir to a company, but Jasper is trying to take control of Jaslyn and all that she has inherited. I didn't find any connections with Jaslyn because she didn't come off as a strong character, in my opinion, she kinda came off as a doormat to the things that Jasper wanted. I didn't care for the way Axel was portrayed either; however, the ending does make me want to read the second book in this duet to find out what happens. Yes, you read that right. Mirage is a duet, the second book to come in the fall of 2020.

Jaslyn and Axel is a dark twisted retake on  Aladdin. This fairytale that will enchant even the toughest of critics.  Jaslyn is the princess trapped in her tower by her wicked and cruel fiancé Jasper. Axel a street fighter comes to her rescue. There are some real triggers in here for anyone who has suffered domestic abuse. So please be warned.

Jaslyn and Axel have a vert fiery chemistry  and the story is rich in character development. This was definitely up there with my favorites within the series so far.

Once again this is another short quick read in the Sinister Fairytales collection, I felt that it could have been longer as I find it hard to connect deeply with the characters when it is so short. With that said though, it is a duet so the story does continue but  I felt that the author could have finished this story as a single instead of making it a duet.

This is part of the sinister fairytale collection which retells some of our favorite fairytale’s and lets say...spices them up a notch! Mirage is the adult remake of a certain star crossed couple with a few wishes. ;) Axel Reed is an illegal street fighter. Once on top, he is now trying to find a way back there. Jaslyn Astor is from a very wealthy family. After her father’s passing she became the owner of his company, Astor Medical Devices & sadly, the fiancé of his right hand man, Jasper Lafar. She is stuck in a dangerous situation she desperately needs out of. Axel meets Jaslyn when Jasper wants to hire him for a “position” in the company. Can these two work together to find a way out? When you mess with fire, sometimes you get burned. They might be from different worlds but they are looking for the same thing. Their sexual tension is perfect. Who doesn’t like a sexy fighter with a heart. This was a perfect “present tense” loosely based on a fairytale and I truly enjoyed every minute of it but UGH I wish I knew it ended in a MAJOR Cliffhanger!! Part two is coming in the fall of 2020. Told in dual POV

This is part of the Sinister fairytale collection , so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but let me tell you it’s Fantastic!
Jaslyn is one kickass heroine, she may come across as weak and meek until we are shown how strong she really is..
Axel is just WOW, now for all that know me know I have a weakness for the name Axel so I had extremely high expectations of him and he sure as shit didn’t disappoint.
Two broken souls, who shouldn’t be together, yet their connection is undeniably strong. Their attraction is HAWWWWWTTT, and that’s all I’ll give away, but let me just say that cliffhanger will leave you wanting to scream and cry!!!
I can’t wait for the 2nd book. I need it like NOW

Jaslyn has a horrible new life when she allows herself to be suckered into an engagement by the evil Jasper. But when Axel enters her life, he gives her hope. They may have to be together in secret, but at least they can be together.

But of course since this is a dark retelling of Aladdin, I knew it wouldn't be flowers and happily ever after, and it most certainly isn't. It is dark and grim and there's a horrible cliffhanger that made me really anxious. I never would have thought to twist Aladdin into something dark, but if it had to be done, this is an entertaining way of doing so. The cliffhanger sucks but I will definitely be reading the next part because I want to know how Jaslyn and Axel will overcome this latest obstacle.

Growing up, and still today, Aladdin has been my Disney go to movie. In fact, I can recite the movie from the opening line to end credits. I was an obsessed child and in my adult years I still find myself reaching for the movie. It will always be my favorite.

So when I first saw the title 'Mirage' my heart plummeted into my stomach. I had hope that I would love this novel, but let's face the cold hard facts, I was setting myself up for the ramifications of what would happen if I didn't particularly care for this novel

Let's start with the plot:

Mirage is the first book in the Veiled Love Duet by C.M. Radcliff.

Jaslyn is living her life under the thumb of her abusive fiance Jasper. She knows Jasper plans to marry her, inherit her fortune, and then cast her aside or murder her. Until Axel comes along.
Axle is an illegal street fighter, who lives his life one fight at a time. But he's about to find the biggest fight of all is conquering Jaslyn's heart.

My thoughts:

C.M. Radcliff is a new to me author. In a few of my reviews for the books in the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection, I stated a time or two that reading a dark romance by a new author can be a make it or break it for me. I felt this novel bordered more on an angsty appeal than a dark appeal. When I think of Dark romances I think of sexy bad boys with an evil glint in their eye that will do anything they want to see the woman/man becomes theirs. This novel focused a tad bit too much on physical abuse perspective. I couldn’t enjoy Axel’s bad boy vibes because I was worried about Jasper getting the final say when it comes to Jaslyn’s life. There were too many Jasper and Jasyln abuse moments. I couldn’t enjoy the evolving chemistry between Jaslyn and Axle.. But that’s just my opinion.

Now onto the point of the novel that I loved! I’m a huge fan of romances involving fighters. Whether they focus on MMA, Boxing, Street Fighting, or Illegal Underground Fighting Rings… I LOVE THEM ALL. And I loved the fact that Axel was a fighter. This captured my attention from the very beginning and honestly, Axel was the only reason why I kept reading this novel.

But then it happened…..the cliffhanger….. I’m starting to really dislike cliffhangers. I was finally getting into the novel and then BAM a freaking cliffhanger. Now I need to know what the hell happens.

Overall, this book just wasn’t for me. But…. I do find myself picking up the next book in this duet just to see if Axel and Jaslyn end up together at the end. My review may be a little biased due to my love for the original fairy tale. Axel, though, this man ran the show. I loved him and I can’t wait to see more of him in part two of the story!

WHAT THE HECK!

I was not expecting that ending...at....all. But I am all in and I would like book two now, please.

This is another addition to the Sinister Fairytales and this one was based on Aladdin. I have to say the connection is loose, but I could get there. Jaslyn is the princess, quite literally locked away in her castle, put there by the evil Jasper. But this not like any fairytale I remember. It is darker and way more grown-up.

Jaslyn longs to be free from Jasper, who is certainly an evil human. He finds Axel and lures him into "working" for him. To Jasper it is all about the money, to Axel, it is all about taking care of himself. Axel is a fighter and he is good at beating people to a pulp. He has used his fists for so long at this point he doesn't know much of anything else. He just wants to pave his own way and finds that with Jasper's offer.

And then Jaslyn and Axel meet. And then the trouble begins. The road to get to all the troubles was pretty intense. Their connection was clear and the tension between them was like a volcano. bubbling and stewing until it finally erupts. We are left in a terrible place, for all of the heart-pounding and what's going to happen nexts to be left like that was unkind but totally worth it.

I NEED MORE !!!!! like literally. That was one of the biggest cliffhangers ever-but I did feel like i needed more throughout the whole novel. the writing was amazing, and I wished the book was longer because I could easily get addicted to this story. I love this unique spin on Aladdin, it’s just a well known tale, and was just the complete opposite of everything we thought we loved about it.
the characters were pretty well developed for the story being as short as it was-which is a direct reflection of how amazing this author wrote this. I would urge you to not miS our on the rest of the collection, and Mirage is no different!

Mirage is all kinds of fecked up. It's also a story of survival. Survival for Jaslyn and Axel. These two meet at the worse time possible. Yet, their connection can't be ignored. Jaslyn is dealing with a lot. She perseveres through her abusive relationship. She's strong even when she thinks she's weak. You will fall in love with Axel and Jaslyn. I can't wait to find out what happens next with these two!

Wow what a book.
This author ALWAYS blows me away with her words but this was definitely something special.
The characters and plot drew you in from the start and refuse to let you go after the last page.
Not a lot can be said about this page turner of a book without ruining the experience for others, but do yourself a favour and one click immediately so you can start your magical carpet ride.
Gah sitting here cursing the author in the very best way.

I love retellings so much!!! I especially like them when they keep you guessing and hit you hard where it hurts. Twisting a fairytale into something new is hard to do and C.M. Radcliff pulled it off perfectly. Aspects of the fairytale story exist to remind the reader, but the twisted take and reimagining is what really stands out. This isn’t the fairytale you remember. It’s a dark modern day story that complicates the story that we remember. And holy hell that ending!!! I need more!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝟓/𝟓 𝓞𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓡𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰: Mirage by C.M. Radcliff is book number eight in the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection! Unlike the other books in the collection thus far, Mirage is NOT PNR. Mirage is a contemporary, modern-day re-telling of an old-time favorite of mine, Aladdin! You know the story, he’s poor and comes from the underground, she comes from a world of privilege, he wants to show her a whole new world… ( Haha, corny I know but I had to do it! 😉😂) All the elements of the classic tale are there but Radcliff went in and added her “magic” to it, making it all her own! Told in dual POV, Mirage is filled with suspense and enough twists that will keep you right on the edge of your seat… and you’re jaw-dropping with the dramatic cliffhanger!
❝𝑯𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑰 𝒈𝒐 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆, 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝒂 𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒎𝒆.❞

Now, although I really enjoyed Mirage, it’s actually one of my favorites from the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection it’s not really what I would consider “dark” . Besides the treatment of Jaslyn, there wasn’t that DARKNESS that I was looking for or am used to from Radcliff. Either way, it didn’t take away from the story and I still really enjoyed it.
❝𝑰 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒎𝒚 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒍 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔.❞
C.M. Radcliff is most definitely one of my one-click authors I am a HUGE fan of her work. Her plots and her characters never disappoint and Mirage was no different. Beautifully written, and the twists that she’s added to this age-old tale has drawn me in hook, line, and sinker! From the blurb to the prologue, to the very last page I devoured this book! Mirage is most definitely a page-turner that will have you begging for more!

If you enjoy new twists to those old classics, then I recommend checking out Mirage!

❝𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒑 𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒊𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆. 𝑰’𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒌, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰’𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓. 𝑰’𝒎 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏.❞
❤️ (𝓱) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸𝓲𝓷𝓮: Jaslyn Astor grew up in a life of luxury. Her father was a very successful man and after his passing, he left everything to his princess, his daughter. After her father’s death, Jaslyn leaned on the one person she thought she could trust, her father’s business partner, Jasper Lafar. But Jasper is NOT the hero he pretended to be and is much more sinister than Jaslyn could have ever imagined. Now Jaslyn lives in a beautiful “castle” but that castle isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, more like a gilded cage. Jaslyn is a strong but broken woman and even though the longer she is with Jasper the more danger she is in, her father’s legacy and his entire empire are at stake. Jaslyn may seem like a weak character but it’s her little acts of silent defiance that let us know there is a fighter still inside of her just waiting to break out.

💙 (𝓗) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸: Axel Reed, the tortured anti-hero, Axel is an underground illegal street fighter from the wrong side of the tracks. Axel was once on the top and now he’s fighting (literally) his way back to it. When a wealthy man makes Axel an offer he can’t refuse, it sounds too good to be true but after meeting the man’s beautiful but battered fiance, Axel takes the deal. I adore Axel. Who doesn’t drool over a sexy man who can kick some butt and wants to protect you? Axel knew his future was at risk but he still takes the deal in hopes of protecting Jaslyn… and showing her a whole new world. 😉
❝𝑨𝒏𝒚 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒘. 𝑱𝒂𝒔𝒍𝒚𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒚 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍. 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒏 𝒊𝒇 𝑰 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉.❞

🧞‍♂️ 𝓢𝓮𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓭𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓼: I can’t NOT mention the legendary “Genie” , A.K.A Rush! Rush is Axel’s best friend/brother. The two grew up in the system together and while they aren’t biological brothers, they are extremely close. Rush completely stole the show whenever he was around. He’s loyal and extremely funny but I feel like there’s a lot more going on with Rush… I know this is set to be a duet but I’m actually hoping for a spin-off because I would LOVE to find out a bit more about Rush.
❝𝑨 𝒃𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒎𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓.❞

🔥🔥🔥 𝟑/𝟓 𝓢𝓽𝓮𝓪𝓶 𝓕𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓸𝓻: There isn’t a TON of steam in this one, but there is a whole lot of sexual tension that had me blowing on my Kindle to try and cool that bad boy down and once they finally collide… sparks are FLYING!
❝𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒕 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑱𝒂𝒔𝒍𝒚𝒏, 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚.❞

🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪 𝟓/𝟓 𝓒𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓯𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓻 𝓦𝓪𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰: HUGE, MAJOR, JAW-FREAKIN-DROPPING, CLIFFHANGER!!! This was another difference between Mirage and the other books in the collection thus far. Although releasing in the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection, Mirage is actually book one of the Veiled Love Duet and the conclusion of the story will not be released until the Fall of 2020! Trust me, this one is definitely going to leave you wanting more so if you aren’t a fan of cliffhangers or waiting around for the next read, you may wanna wait before jumping into this one.

***4 Stars***

Well, that was unexpected.

Not to say that this retelling was expected, because the twist to this particular fairy tale was definitely an interesting one, but that ending ~ and yes, it is one hell of a cliffy ~ most definitely not what I saw coming. But, let’s start at the beginning.

I have to say, that prologue was very well done. It had me needing to know who all the players were and just how far things would go. And they went far. As this is a duet, I’m keeping things vague, but I really liked Jaslyn and Axel. Both are much stronger than people believe and once they collide all bets are off...especially with that cliffy. But up until then, I enjoyed watching as they got to know each other better.

This was an interesting twist to the Aladdin tale. The elements are there, but the author definitely made it her own. Jasper fascinated me, didn’t like him, but one doesn’t have to like someone to be fascinated by them. But my favorite was Rush. He was all kinds of awesome! I’m not a fan of going into books and not knowing a cliffy is possible ~ it doesn’t take away anything from the story, but one cannot help but be frustrated when things end abruptly ~ but even with that said, I’m quite interested to see how everything ends up for the Jaslyn and Axel, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for part deux of this duet.

What an intensely phenomenal read! I was completely consumed from the prologue to that ending sentence! My whole world is shaken! I feel like my magic carpet dropped me flat on my a33! This book was a wonderfully unexpected surprise! Mirage is a part of the Sinister fairytale collection, it's a dark and twisted retelling of Jasmine's tale. I say Jasmine's Tale because there are not very many similarities to Aladdin. But you get the main pieces, untouchable daughter locked away from the world. We have our evil villain, and this one is extremely Sinister. And we get out guy from the wrong side of the tracks! We also possibly have our Ace (lucky guy/Genie). I won't be going into detail because I don't want to take away from the story it's pretty Fantastic! Mirage has left me speechless! Radcliff did a fantastic job with this story! It's intriguing and emotional, you will devour it and be begging for more! I'm so happy this is a duet, it's not a story that you want to finish anytime soon. This book is dark and it keeps you holding your breath and praying for these characters! I loved EVERYTHING about this book! It's nothing like what your thinking or even imagining! It's heartbreaking, full of wonderful chemistry and hauntingly raw! I cannot wait for the next book in this duet (Veiled Love). This was a slamdunk for Radcliff! That cliffy is Brutal, I almost cried!!! I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I have said this before, but I am REALLY digging the Sinister Fairy Tales series! Mirage is a modern day Aladdin with major twists and even more deceitfulness, but the underlying story is along the same lines with a lot spicier and devious plot. I think the author did a really good job with Mirage and I saw the comparison with Aladdin from the very start. BUT, it is a duet, so be bracing your self for it to end right when things get good and BOY is it a HUGE cliffhanger- can't wait for the next book in the duet!

All in all, if you like the spin offs of the fairy tales and like your books dark with super interesting characters, I recommend you checking out Mirage, I enjoyed reading it and give it 4 outta 5 stars!

PS: Thank you to CM Radcliff, Sinister Fairy Tales, and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

Nooooooooo!! No ... Please tell me that I will receive the conclusion to Axel and Jaslyn’s story very soon. My heart can’t take this! I fell hard for these two and the ending left me reeling. What happens to Axel? Will Jaslyn remember who Axel is? And oh yeah ... will Rush get his story? I need the second half just as bad as I need Rush’s story. I typically don’t mind a cliffhanger, but with this one, I really do. My heart hurts!

C.M. Radcliff is a new-to-me author, but she is now one that I will always follow. I love the way that she draws us a picture with her words. I can visualize the characters, what they’re wearing and see the expressions on their faces. I love a descriptive author and that’s what C.M. gives us. I will be looking forward to the conclusion to Mirage, although it can’t get here fast enough!! Everyone needs to read Mirage. It’s just THAT amazing!

Mirage by CM Radcliff is the story of Axel Reed and Jaslyn Astor.
Jaslyn's father had died leaving her his wealth and company. Jaslyn ends up getting tricked into and engagement to Jasper Lafar who becomes abusive. Axel has no family and has to work his way up and is now a illegal street fighter. Axel ends up meeting Jaslyn via Jasper. Their feelings become entangled but of course there is danger and they will need to work together to help each other.
This book is a re-take of Aladdin and it does end with a cliffhanger.

Jaslyn had everything she could want growing up thanks to her father and his wealth. After her father dies, she turns to Jaspar and her world gets very dark. She is a prisoner and to marry Jaspar so he can keep her father's fortune. Axel is from the wrong side of town. He meets Jaslyn and she has hope for a change. Will Axel and Jaslyn manage to get free from the evil Jaspar? A slight likeness to the fairytale of Aladdin.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.

What!?!? Was that ending a “Mirage”? 🤐 I really enjoyed this book, but honestly I was not prepared for that cliffhanger! I love a good CH, but I usually go into to them expecting it and this one took me by surprise! I just did not want it to end.

Loved these characters and storyline, and I seriously can’t wait to get the conclusion to this story when Clarity is released in the fall.

C.M. Radcliff is a mistress of the written word. The woman know how to take a well known, well loved fairy tale, throw it in the blender, toss in some tequila, and change it into something completely, masterfully perfect. As a person who is obsessed with fairy tales, I was addicted to Jaslyn's tale from the prologue. A strong, yet broken woman with a backstory that just haunts you and draws to your heart. Her anti-hero, Axel is a combination of my favorite book boyfriends: tortured, brooding, with a bruised but still beating heart. C.M. Radcliff comes up with characters that are delightfully devious, particularly her villains. And in this book, she does not disappoint.

Whenever I see that C.M. Radcliff has started a new book, my heart skips a beat. My muscles tense, my mind races and my soul sings. She does not disappoint. Just like a Mirage, she tickled and teased my senses and has me begging for more. I look forward to learning what this Mirage reveals.

Intense and Thrilling!

WOW! That was an amazing story. It was intense and thrilling from beginning to end and it kept me on the edge of my seat with anticipation of what was going to happen next. Dark, twisted, suspenseful and oh so sexy!

Jaslyn is a very strong woman but her situation broke my heart. If only she would let her strength and fearlessness out. Along comes Axel to throw her heart into a tailspin. He’s sexy and fierce and doesn’t backdown from anything. Their chemistry was powerful and very intense. I loved these two characters together.

This story is a little dark and twisted. It will take you on a bumpy emotional ride and leave you breathless for more with that amazingly twisted cliffhanger ending.

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. I loved that Radcliff brought Aladdin to the modern day. While this retellings isn’t like most of the others with it being so modern and most of the story being changed, all the key elements from the original story are still there. Axel and Jaslyn are so fierce and strong. They compliment each other nicely. The story is a bit predictable. My hate with this book is that I HATE cliffhangers. I normally won’t read a series or duet if it isn’t completely because I’m the type that has to binge everything. Other than that and overall it’s an easy, instaloveish read. It will definitely leave you wanting more
