Michel Pastoureau è un uomo che non si annoia mai. Gli piace sedersi da qualche parte e osservare le persone, come sono vestite, cosa dicono, raffigurarsele nel contesto in cui vivono. Porta sempre con sé qualche foglio di carta e una matita, per disegnare e annotare le sue riflessioni. In treno, ai giardini, in spiaggia, al supermercato, ogni spunto è buono per lui per fermarsi a osservare e riflettere. Ogni sfumatura di colore nasconde un significato, ha una storia sociale e materiale, contiene e riproduce un mondo intero. In questo diario Pastoureau ha voluto raccogliere 'a briglia sciolta' i suoi appunti sull'attualità cromatica, saltando da un argomento all'altro, che si tratti dell'abbigliamento quotidiano o dei fenomeni della moda, della divisa degli All Blacks o della maglia rosa al Giro d'Italia, del colore delle lenzuola o di quello dei tatuaggi. Narrativi e poetici, gli appunti ci ricordano che il colore serve per segnalare, classificare e creare gerarchie, ma allo stesso tempo può essere una fonte di immenso piacere e un luogo per sognare.

About the author

Pastoureau was born in Paris on 17 June 1947. He studied at the École Nationale des Chartes, a college for prospective archivists and librarians. After writing his 1972 thesis about heraldic bestiaries in the Middle Ages, he worked in the coins, medals and antiquities department of the French National Library until 1982.
Since 1983 he has held the Chair of History of Western Symbolism (Chaire d'histoire de la symbolique occidentale) and is a director of studies at the Sorbonne's École pratique des hautes études. He is an academician of the Académie internationale d'héraldique (International Academy of Heraldry) and vice-president of the Société française d'héraldique (French Heraldry Society). When he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lausanne in 1996, he was described as an eminent scholar who has made a radical contribution to several disciplines.
Professor Pastoureau has published widely, including work on the history of colours, animals, symbols, and the Knights of the Round Table. He has also written on emblems and heraldry, as well as sigillography and numismatics.

Michel Pastoureau est toujours aussi inspirant! Si on ne connaît pas du tout Michel Pastoureau, il vaut mieux le découvrir avec Les couleurs de nos souvenirs. Au début j'avais même un peu peur d'être déçue mais finalement, on est happé par le livre. Michel Pastoureau tient toutes ses promesses: c'est vraiment un journal d'un monsieur ^&gé, préoccupé par son âge son corps vieillssant, que plus en plus de choses énervent et qui râle de plus en plus. Mais sa passion des couleurs ne change pas, bien au contraire, elle semble devenir encore plus grande et agir tel un incroyable élixir de jouvence. Mieux encore, ce remède de Makropulos agit aussi sur le lecteur et nous rend non seulement plus instruits mais absolument heureux.
J'aime beaucoup aussi le style de Pastoureau: clair et simple sans être simpliste, avrc un vocabulaire intéressant.
