This is Beatrix Potter true English Classic for children All of the stories have a subtle educative moral. Disobedient children are punished in some books but this does not mean they are dark stories. Infact her stories are so light the children can not get oppressed. All the characters are full of life, love and portray great imaginative fun.
Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.
Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.
In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.
Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.
In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.
Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.
How cute, charming, quaint...so many words can describe the stories of Beatrix Potter! She is certainly a talented storyteller! I could picture the animals in their clothes, running and hopping about as they got into mischief and always have a happy ending to end their chaotic days with. Obviously my favorite stories were those about Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, but they were all so sweet and funny!! I enjoyed it immensely!☺️
ReRead in anticipation of a play version coming to town later this year. I have no memory of most of these stories, some of which I don't get. And I've forgotten many of them again already. Mostly meh.
Beatrix Potter has been one of my favorite authors since I was a little girl!!! This compilation doesn’t disappoint. The only bummer is the Tale of squirrel Nutkin is not included in this book. But it’s still worth the read!
I enjoyed these cute stories of the little animals in the countryside. I hope to read them to my grandchildren. I kept wondering if someone had read them to me as a young girl if I would have had the attention span to enjoy them. Very sweet stories!
Really enjoyed reading this to the eoit. He's fell asleep during the majority of the stories, but that's what I wanted. :)
We read this as an ebook, but this is the version that the page numbers line up with.
From my review of the other version:
02/16 "We read "The Tale of Mr. Tod." well, i read half of it out loud, and the EOiT fell asleep before I got that far." 02/10 "We read "In Remembrance of 'Sammy'...The Roly-Poly Pudding"" 02/09 "We read The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, and The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies"
These stories for children never get old. A full range of charming English wild and farm animals are the main characters in these tales written by Beatrix Potter. These stories are perfect for young children. The characters are well fleshed out and the villains, although animals, are as real as human ones which make some of these good as cautionary tales.
I never tire of this wonderful collection. I listened to it in audible format but still felt the same, minus the illustrations, but I also have that one, too. My favorite is Peter Rabbit, of course! These are stories I have read and reread over the years around the spring holiday season. Recommend for young and old alike. It will wake up the inner child in you.
Have always enjoyed these books as a child and now have the joy of reading them to my little one. He loved them and has shown more interest in these books than any previously read to him. :) Love it, love it, love it.
Half of the fun of Beatrix Potter stories are the gorgeous illustrations. Unfortunately, my Kindle is old and decrepit by today's standards, and refused to show any images. I'm assuming they're there, at least.
The stories themselves were great, though. Along with the more famous stories - like the tales of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck - the collection also contained a few that I hadn't managed to find physical copies of back when I actually had the books.
I was glad to find a decent selection of Beatrix Potter stories to add to my ever-growing collection of books to read to the baby.
...
Okay, so I had gotten this before I even knew I was going to have a baby.
A great endearing collection of stories. It was a fun nostalgic read for me personally; having grown up with several of these stories. But also, it was a true joy to read them to my baby girl.
The short stories in this book were very cute, some of the stories i was familiar with while others were completely new to me. I enjoyed reading the stories to my kids.
Potter takes us back to a simple time, when animation comes alive on the page. Recommended to have this on hand for story time wherever you are or for a moment's escape.
So lovely to revisit my childhood in this collection. Beatrix’s love and of animals really comes alive. So enjoyable and each story has a subtle message. A real English countryside children’s classic!
