The Darkhold tempts Spider-Man with its power and soon, all the Midnight Sons join the hunt for the demonic-looking Spider-X, who claims to deliver brutal justice to sinners.
This is why some people cringe at the mention of the '90s.
Not quite trash, it features many beloved characters from Marvel's occult roster (Ghost Rider, Blaze, Morbius and others), tied by a flimsy plot, sporting a mix of some very decent and not-so-decent art, that in any case ranges from "sort of" to wildly inconsistent from one artist to the next.
As quaint little relics go, certainly not the worst thing.
I’m a huge sucker for when multiple artists all bring their own style to one contiguous narrative, and especially in this issue’s case where Kevin Meyer, Jr.’s art in the Darkhold chapter emulated, to me, the work of Richard Corben.
Can’t help but love how Spider-Man just punches Morbius right in the throat mid-ethics debate. Not to mention his contribution to the surprise villain:
*Spider-Man Thought Bubble* “I may not have any funky supernatural powers but this chunk of concrete did its part!”
