Diva Delaney finds herself embroiled in a new mystery when she is asked to search for a missing witch. She is a psychic medium, not a private investigator, but she agrees as a favor to her Aunt Isabel. She soon discovers that more than one witch has been kidnapped from the nearby town of Verity Falls.
With the aid of some local ghosts, Diva needs to get to the bottom of this latest puzzle. She will need to call on magical assistance from her cousins and even one of her enemies. Haydn Creighton has been her secret obsession since she was a kid. Even though he’s engaged to a snooty and slightly unstable British witch, Diva can’t get him out of her mind. She already owes him a favor for accepting his help. After this latest mess, she could be digging herself in too deep to extricate herself.
Just to complicate things, Diva’s cousin, Courtney, has decided she wants to marry Drew McTavish. The sheriff has no idea the lengths magical folk will go to in order to get what they want. He still firmly believes the supernatural isn’t real and he isn’t at all prepared for what will soon be coming.
Anni Jayde loves reading cozy mysteries and paranormal romance books. She decided to mash the two genres together in her Diva Delaney Mysteries series. Her first book, Is Murder By Candlestick Still A Thing?, will be the first of what she hopes will be many titles in this series.
Half English herself, Anni uses her quirky sense of humor to poke fun at her British side with her characters from the Creighton Coven. They are a snobby bunch of upper crust witches and warlocks who are in serious need of redeeming themselves. If anyone can force them to change their ways, it'll be Diva Delaney.

Okay. So while I have been enjoying the heck out of this series, with its quirky characters and snarky interactions, I have one criticism - why is everyone so abusive towards Diva? Seriously, think about it. You have a ‘normal’ growing up within the magical community of Hollowood Grove - whose magical residents are forbidden from retaliating against, hexing or otherwise harming the defenceless ’normals’ - yet they frequently torment, hex, and attack Diva with no repercussions! And I’m talking about family, too. It is the one element of the series that I have issues with. It’s frustrating at times to see her so vulnerable and having little to no options.
But on the other hand, apart from Diva’s inability to defend or heal herself, I have loved the crap out of these books. The mysteries have been creative and fun to read, and the world building is great. The tension between the Delaney and Creighton Covens is so good, and Diva and Haydn have a great dynamic - especially now that Gillian is on the scene.
So, take this review as you will, and just be aware that if an unequal power dynamic and the resulting treatment of a character pushes your buttons, then maybe it’s not for you, but I’d still recommend giving it a try.
A great fun read but the plots are really just getting a bit too OTT. Her business is slowly picking up when she is asked to look into the disappearance of the newspaper's editor's wife. Kidnapped witches, council enforcers, an irate fiance and lots of magic. Magic that she wishes she had. All she has is the power to talk and see ghosts and get feelings from things handled by others. Can they find the missing witches? How will she survive the fiance and the mother? A decent plot but I really hate when the ending is a cliffhanger - which this one is!
Diva Delaney is amusing and at times you can't help but laugh out loud. Especially when she is paired with the British snob Haydn, then the banter between them is the best part of the story. Diva is hired to find her aunt's boss' wife, who disappeared without a trace. When Diva goes looking, she more finds than she bargained for. She will need the help of Haydn, two Texas P.I.s and her posse of ghosts to find the clues and expose the killers. This series gets better with each book. You can actually figure out who hexed Diva and why. It just Diva hasn't figured it out yet and when she does, run...
I can't stop reading these books. They are just plain fun. Voodoo, ghosts, (gossipy ones at that) and good looking men. Not to mention a family of witches that is Diva's. This heroine is so very overloaded with problems it seems she will never win,but she does sometimes.
