I was happily married until the doctor gave me terrible news. My husband must have never really loved me because he left me shortly afterward. It's been six months and I'm in a better place...but do you ever truly get over something like that? Then I meet Neil Crimson. The guy isn't just handsome, smart, and charming. There's something special about him. He's an astronaut. He just returned from a three-month voyage at the moon and now he's working at the NASA Space Center in Houston. He's my best friend's brother-in-law so I see him all the time. Every time we bump into each other, I like him a little more. After my divorce, I'm looking for something easy, something fun.Neil Crimson seems easy and fun. I'm about to have a fling with an astronaut. How many people can say that?

Stars On Fire has a couple things that make this book stand out for me. First the hero is an astronaut. That's a first for me and I like the extra it brings to the story. It'll be interesting to see how these two handle the relationship when he isn't even on earth. I say that because it hasn't happened yet. This is a series and their story isn't done.
The second thing that makes this book stand out is the heroine. I always want to find a heroine who plays it cool with the hero. I like this trait because it pushes the hero to be the one to chase. Charlotte is such a cool character. She is still grieving over her marriage and what her ex-husband did to her, so she recognizes she isn't ready for more than just companionship.
Since Charlotte isn't wanting anything serious, this allows her to get close to Neil. I wouldn't say Neil is a commitment phobe, he is just realistic with how his job has to come first and he doesn't think it would be fair to a relationship. Because of this he keeps things casual but he also hasn't met anyone to make him want to try. Looks like that will be changing with Charlotte.
I think the next book will really step things up between Neil and Charlotte, and I'm looking forward to it.
Charlotte is just six months out of a marriage that left her with a bad taste in her mouth. Because of a medical problem, he left her, and found himself another woman. Charlotte has decided that love is too much of a gamble, but a one night stand every once in a while won't hurt.
Her best friend's husband's brother is Neil Crimson .... a bonafide astronaut. Handsome, smart, charming, and dedicated to his job. No commitments for him .. his first and only love is when he's in space.
There is an attraction between them, but they each know the score. They enjoy each other's company ... in and out of bed.
He's leaving for outer space again .... so what will happen then?
Be prepared ... there is a major cliff-hanger.
The love scenes are many, graphic, and they sizzle. This is basically a love story about two people who don't believe in love ... but they're finding something. Will be fun to see where they go from here.
Many thanks to the author / Hartwick Publishing for the digital copy of this contemporary romance. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I'm choosing to wait and write one review covering the complete series when I've finished all three books. One will certainly suffice if the first is any indication of what's to come. For the most part, Stars on Fire was overflowing ad nauseam with body part descriptions (the heroine has a tiny waist and fabulous legs) and our astronaut hero is beyond "earthly" in his good looks. Readers should be left with no doubts on either's beauty -- believe me, Todd doesn't let you forget.
I'm not a big fan of E.L. Todd's writing -- especially her character's dialogues. They feel plain old vanilla or on the other end a bunch of sexual blah, blah, blah. But we'll see how the rest goes because I was caught up in the story's unique plot and need to find out how it all ends up.
Don’t really understand the hype. Now know that this is a trilogy with a very unfavourable ending (fan complaints). Found this read very flat. A very cool concept and potentially powerful read that didn’t really hit the mark for me. I don’t think I’ll continue with the series given the frustration of the trifecta of relations at the end. Not for me.
I was so invested in this book by E. L. Todd from the get go. The characters of Charlotte, the recently divorced woman who is trying to get back out and enjoy life after the ultimate betrayal of her douche of a husband, and Neil the infamous astronaut. He’s forsaken a wife and family for his first love, dedicating his life to space exploration. Their attraction is all consuming and they decide to enjoy each other’s company until his next space launch. The storyline pulled at my heart strings and had me reading until I was utterly exhausted emotionally and my eyes were strained. I simply couldn’t put the book down. I normally don’t like reading stories where there is a Part 2, but I eagerly anticipate the next installment. This book should rate 5 stars, falls short because of editing errors.
“One day, you’re going to reach the end of your life. In those moments, you’re going to regret the things you didn’t do…not the things you did do.”
Quick read! I enjoyed the astronaut aspect, but so many of the characters were unlikeable 😩 Always so negative and it got OLD because it seemed so forced.
Another great start to what promises to be an amazing series by the talented E.L. Todd. What an absolutely emotional and beautiful story. Can't wait for #2.
This book was about astronauts , space and sex, that's it. I didnt like the characters, no depth , nothing to any of them. I mostly skimmed thru to see if it would get better, it didn't . may not read book 2 unless it's free
It’s nice that when i’ve been reading various series by E.L. Todd, that i’ll get the finale of a trilogy and then a bonus first book to a new series. That’s what happened here when I finished the Fighter. Something that i’ve noticed of a lot of these series, we have insanely intelligent (genius) hot sexy male leads taking over the pages, and just as impressive smart strong beautiful women partnering with them to keep a story going. this is no exception.
We meet out leading lady at the onset of this story – we watch Charlotte adapting to her life in the new normal. She’s recently divorced and trying to pick up the pieces of that failed marriage – and we only get hints for the first half of the story as to what caused the breakup. It seemed like she and her ex were well suited, they were madly in love with each other until they weren’t.
She’s got a great job to fall back on, amazing friends, and a new perspective on what her life should be now. it’s through her best friend Stacy and her husband Vic that we see a shine come back to Charlotte’s eyes. They are the kind of friends that you want to have because they’re there for it all. When Charlotte was down from the breakup, they picked her up. Vic didn’t have to – he’s Stacy’s husband, but he treats her like a little sister and that’s something special.
Things change when we’re watching a rocket landing and learn that it’s Vic’s brother Neil, who’s the astronaut piloting the mission and he’s finally back after 3 months away. There’s anxiety over having a successful landing, and once that happens, everyone’s happy for this hot sexy American Hero to be back on Earth.
From here, we watch a new friendship blossom. Neil is back on Earth, he’s in high demand because he’s smart, he’s one of the best, and he’s incredibly attractive. Women drop at his feet for his attention, everyone wants a piece of him because he’s the man of the hour, and all he wants is to make his family proud….even though he knows that they don’t like what he does for a living. (mind you we learn that his father was an astronaut that was killed in a rocket explosion at launch). He’s not looking for marriage or kids since he knows that he’ll be in space more than on Earth and his priority is always that. This makes for the perfect friendship because Charlotte doesn’t believe in marriage and it seems like kids aren’t her jam at this point in life. (for reasons that we learn later).
They are clearly attracted to each other but they don’t act on it. instead they develop a friendship, banter and enjoy what is new and different in their lives for the first time ever. It makes Vic uncomfortable that his brother is bonding with Charlotte in a way that wasn’t expected but, at the same time he likes to see two friends happy.
Of course as these stories go, whatever starts as purely platonic never ends well and we see something unique and interesting grow out of that. There’s a chemistry that they share and there’s a comfort that’s unexpected. Neither expects the heat and electricity that they feel together, and that leads to some of the hottest on brand scenes from our amazing author! Neil is protective of her in everything that causes her pain and of course doesn’t want to be the cause of making her upset. Because of that, Charlotte actually tries to put boundaries on their relationship because friendship is far more important to the both of them.
Age old tale of what you want v. what you get – so of course things get complicated (in a good way maybe?) and we’re left at the edge of our seats as a result of another unexpected trip to the moon. I’ve got the next book on deck to jump right in and I can’t wait to see where we are taking off to next!
I loved Stars on Fire. It sets the pace for what I am looking forward to being an excellent series! I love all the characters in this book! Neil is this super prodigy and famous astronaut, that deals with his own qualms about relationships, his career, his future, and even the uneasiness and adjustment to life here on the ground after spending so much time in space. Charlotte is a super chill, laid back and humble person. She is not vain and is dealing with her own personal issues. Six months following an unexpected and horrible betrayal of a divorce, Charlotte knows she is not ready for a serious romantic relationship. Her husband cheated on her and abandoned her after finding out she cannot have children, leaving her feeling betrayed, inadequate and lost. She questions her dreams for her future and the existence of love.
Charlotte is going through the motions and spending time with her bestfriend and her husband, when she meets his brother Neil. She is indifferent to the stardom and gets to know him on a personal level, that no one else has attempted. The develop a friendship, and later a closeness that leads to a physical relationship ("friends with benefits" as some call it). They are two individuals that want something casual. They enjoy each other's company and have a deep physical attraction and connection. Neil supports her emotionally through all she is going through and encourages her to rethink her self worth. He reminds her that her ex- is the one who had an issue, and was a selfish human being. He encourages her to not change her dreams for her future, and not to give up on finding love.
I love these characters and can't wait to see what happens in book 2! I hate the fact that just when things were getting good, Neil had to leave! I am dying to see what comes next!!!
Great book. Great characters. I have only one complaint. Well, two. The story is set in Houston, Texas. I am a native Houstonian born here in the 70s. Now, people who didn’t grow up around here won’t know this, but in the Houston on 2019, there are no 7-11s. It’s true. When the economy tanked in the 80s, 7-11 gave Houston the finger and took their stores out of the area. To this day we have not a single one. So, when the two main characters repeatedly talk about Slurpees? Well, it’s really annoying. So, we don’t have Slurpees in Houston. We have Icees. Very tasty and way more flavors. Suck it 7-11!
Also, there is no way the main character lives downtown and it only takes 15 minutes to get to a house that’s only 5 minutes away from Johnson Space Center. It takes half an hour just to get to the Beltway then another half hour to JSC.
Okay, I have 3 problems: The love interest blasts off for space from Johnson Space Center. No. Mission Control is here in Houston, but they liftoff and land in Florida, Cape Canaveral. They would not be sleeping in their beds in Houston the night before liftoff because there would be no rocket, shuttle, whatever there. They’d have to book it to Florida.
If you can overlook all of those errors that could have been easily fixed with research, then you’ll love the book. It’s got heart, great sexytimez, and a bit of a moral message thrown in for kicks. I recommend it... but talking about Slurpees is like salt in the wound.
Charlotte is recently divorced after she was blindsided by devastating news from her doctor and her husband decided he could not stand by her in sickness and in health. Her best friend, Stacy and husband Vic, are now her family, so when Vic's brother that Charlotte has never met, finally become acquainted, she is blown away by home hot he is. Neil is a famous astronaut who lives his life for his passion, space and he can't believe that this petite woman is so tough, sassy and intriguing. She isn't like the other woman who only want him for what it can bring them. So when Charlotte proposes that the two of them enjoy their time together with no strings attached, he is all in. But sometimes things don't go according to plan and as the launch date for Neil's next mission approaches both of them find their feelings deepening. Can they go back to being just friends when he returns? You'll have to wait for the next installment. 😁. Well written with a great flow and characters that you really want to root for.
Charlotte was divorced about 6 months, she was broken hearted because of her life. Her husband divorced her because she couldn't have a baby and he got involved with another woman and they were expecting a baby soon.. Victor was Stacy's husband, her best friend since college. Victor had a brother, named Neil who was a astronaut and worked with the space station. A brother who taught others for NASA. Charlotte met Neil, thought Stacy and Victor. They started to hang out with each other and became good friends and ended up in a sexual relationship. They had fun together every day while he was on earth. They became close and Neil asked her to take care of his house, so she moved in while he took another trip in space. This book was absolutely exciting to read. The facts even if it was pretend, sounded real for a life of a astronaut. I enjoyed reading this story. I'm looking forward to the next story about these people and the possibility of friendship and love! ENJOY!!!
Stars on Fire hit me right in the feels while also giving me that swoony escapism I was craving.
Our FMC is recovering from heartbreak after a painful divorce, trying to move on, and then in walks Neil Crimson..handsome, grounded (well, not literally, since he’s an astronaut 😂), and just the right mix of charming and real.
What I liked most was how this wasn’t just a fluffy romance. It’s about rediscovering yourself after loss, learning to open up again, and realising that sometimes the best things come when you least expect them.
But don’t worry! There’s still plenty of banter, sparks, and all that delicious tension as a fling starts to feel like so much more.
E.L. Todd delivered a story that’s equal parts heart and heat, with a totally unique twist...because, let’s be honest, how many romances feature a NASA astronaut love interest?
3.5 Stories about astronauts – and especially NASA – are a soft-spot for me due to my growing up near the Johnson Space Center and the space program. This astronaut-romance popped up on my radar last year, and I knew I definitely needed to read it STAT (”stat” being 12-18 months, haha)!
This is a fairly low-angst love story where the two MCS have a mutual attraction, friends/relatives in common, and an aversion to relationships. They set up a friends-with-benefits situation with boundaries for each before either gets too many feels.
What I didn’t know is that it ends in a cliffie, so you are not going to get your HEA in this one #nospoilers
Has anyone read this series or know if there is a book for Vic and Stacy? They seem like a pretty hot couple, and I’d like co read how they got together.
Charlotte is absolutely broken coming out of her divorce, to the point where happily ever after no longer exists, along with any man needed to help make said relationship happen. Neil Crimson just happens to be the older brother of Charlottes best friend Stacy’s husband whom has No one because he is a astronaut that spends more time in space than on earth....Add in the constant disappointment from his brother and mother and it’s no wonder Neils commitment issues are off the charts...
E.L. caught me off guard with “Stars on Fire”, ( in the best way possible). Hey I am not usually one for so called “CASUAL”, but...I am however, a huge sucker for second chances, and broken always speaks to my soul..
This author has been consistently in my top 10 of favorite authors. She always delivers good, solid characters, great dialogue, and very well edited stories. I always like how she presents the couple's situations, dilemmas. This story is a good example. Charlotte having been treated like a useless garden weed by her husband, feeling as if she's not worthy of a good man, and then Neil a superstar astronaut who lives to explore and defend outer space, shuns relationships. And then he returns to his beloved spaceship for another 3-month mission. There IS a cliffhanger with the next installment ready to purchase. This is one of my rare exceptions on cliffhanger _ I'm about to one_click it.
When Charlotte's best friend Stacy met the love of her life they all became best friends. Vic and Stacy were there for Charlotte when her marriage ended and she stopped believing in love. When Vics brother Neil, the famous astronaut comes into the picture there is an attraction but Vic and Stacy aren't happy about that. They want Charlotte happy but they know Neil will break her heart with his love of outer space. Since she's an adult and just wants to have fun why not do it with a hot, interesting man. As they spend time together they develop a real friendship but will that be enough. I'm not sure of the accuracy in the space program parts of this story but I've never been this interested in it before.
While I know this is fiction, living on the spacecoast of Florida has basically made me immune to the space center. This book is so emotional on so many levels, but the thoughts and feelings Neil shares really has opened my eyes more to how things are with the astronauts and their families. It’s scary.
Neil is perfect for Charlotte. I feel so bad for her, the ex is an @$$ and keeps showing his true colors making me hate him even more. So glad she’s away from him. I can tell that she and Neil are getting closer whether they want to admit it or not. Kyle might as well move out of the way. He don’t stand a chance, even if Neil doesn’t think he wants something serious, he’s fallen for her and there’s no two ways about it at all.
I was so excited to read this book. The plot is so original I mean who gets to date an astronaut? The characters are so easy to connect with. Having gone through infertility issues myself I felt a greater understanding for the emotions and the journey that Charlotte has to go on. The connection with Neil is instant and I love the pace in which their relationship blooms. The writing is flawless it keeps you entertained and on your toes at the same time. I really loved the ending it's the perfect cliffhanger not messy but leaves you needing more. I can't wait to read the next book in this series it's sure to be an epic adventure.
I was drawn to this book by the cover, the blurb and the fact that I've read a few books by E. L. Todd and loved them, so I had to read Stars on Fire!
For newly divorced Charlotte, it was meant to be some no strings attached fun until Neil left for work. But it became so much more. She found herself missing him and looking forward to his return. Has Neil managed to open up her heart to the possibility of love again?
The chemistry between Charlotte and Neil is sizzling hot. The storyline is engrossing, I found it hard to put down. A great start to the series that has me hooked and that cliffhanger ending has me impatiently waiting for the next part.
Charlotte and Neil are so opposite that the click. Forced together because of their relationship with Vic and Stacy a friendship naturally occurs between them.
Everyone has emotional scars, it's how you move forward that shows strength. As their relationship morphs into something a little more than friends their connection and mutual respect grows. As Neil shoots back to the stars, will they walk away from something that has the potential to be epic.
I enjoyed the flow of this story and how the characters jump from the pages as if I was watching the story unfold.
Omg! This was the perfect, sexy read that kept my attention page after page. Charlotte definitely had some horrible news and a tragic end to her marriage but when she meets her best friend's brother-in-law...oh lawdy...sparks are popping up everywhere. I loved that Neil had an interesting occupation and that made the story all the more compelling. The characters really sucked me in and I adore Vic, Stacy and Kyle. I feel like they are my best friends and I'm so involved in their life story. I definitely can't wait to find out where Charlotte and Neil are going next. They can't be together...can they?
I love the way Charlotte and Neil are navigating their “friendship”. They both have a way about them that instantly drew me in. Neither was looking for anything more than a no strings attached thing, but the lines are getting a little blurry for both of them. they won’t admit that to themselves though, and that’s what makes the story interesting. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that there are three books in the series, so as this one was winding down, I could say I was in trouble. However, I absolutely love this couple and their friends and family, so going to jump right into book number two.
They end abruptly in order to become a series when it isn’t necessary to draw this out so much. There were some similarities from The Doctor series - a handsome man who all women want who just wants sex, a woman recently divorced who just wants sex, they have great chemistry. Only Neil and Charlotte both seem ok with being “friends” and lovers. He’s going off to space for three months but invited Charlotte to live in his empty house for the duration he’s gone. They’re good together and when he returns I expect they’ll pick back up even though they say they won’t. We’ll see how painful book 2 is.
This was something different from E.L. Todd. Charlotte has gone through a horrible divorce and her best friend Stacey is so protective then along comes her brother in law a famous astronaut called Neil. Can Neil help Charlotte recover and heal old wounds or is he just going to be friends with benefits. Neil hasn’t had a relationship just flings with no commitments, can Charlotte change him and his feelings? Couldn’t put the book down and read it from beginning to end. Desperate for the next installment.

This book was so happy and sad at the same time! Charlotte and Neil should really get together in the next book. I know they talked about just being friends and not becoming anything else but they are so perfect for each other. Kyle, on the other hand, should have moved in sooner if he wanted a chance or made his feelings aware to Charlotte. I love Stacy and Vic they should have a series to themselves because you can really hear the love in their story! :) I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next book!

The FMC’s friend is married to a man who is a misogynistic abuser; he takes her home drunk and has sex with her, the friend saying the next day “he wouldn’t leave me alone even when I was kicking him off” talk about very dubious consent. I get a very Tradwife vibe, and the FMC just brushes it off, seemingly thinking it’s wonderful the guy wants to bang her no matter whether she wants to or not, as if being married gives him the automatic right to have sex. Distasteful to say the least. Found the MMC shallow and borderline misogynistic too.
