Her mother is alive.
Uncaring of the dangers she may face, Emily pleads with the Mackenzie family for assistance to find her last remaining family member. The kind-hearted Laird's brother, Angus, volunteers to accompany and protect her on her journey.
Emily is forced to let go of her anger toward the Scottish people for the actions of the few when she finds herself becoming more and more devoted to her Highland protector.
But when an unexpected enemy arises to test her trust, Emily must make a heart-breaking decision that will change the course of her life forever...

There are a fair number of spelling errors and mistakes in The published book but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of it.
Highlander's Unexpected Ally by Alisa Adams is a well-plotted, interesting highland tale revolving around Emily who has been rescued from a band of bandits that has held her captive for years, using her for their own amusement and as a servant until they make the mistake of taking Sabrina and Martha, the wife and mother of Lord Seamus MacKenzie. Seamus may have put up with the bandits before, but now they have gone too far and he has vowed to wipe them from the highlands. Emily got to be rescued for free and is now living in the castle with the rest of the clan. She is English, they are not. Before they were captured and killed, her parents had been travelling merchants, not clansmen. She is grateful but does not feel at home. Seamus' brother Angus is attracted to Emily but sees she has too many problems to respond to him, but he keeps trying, gently. Sabrina suggests to Emily that she speak to one of the many bandits being help prisoner and see if she can trace her parents. Angus offers to go with her. Angus manages to beat out of one of the prisoners that Emily's mother was sold to a Scottish laird, so with Seamus' permission, Angus and Emily search for her.
For the most part this was a really interesting and compelling story with good characters; Emily, who is a broken soul; and Angus, who is a good man but at loose ends in his life, not know which way to go with the future. Their love story grows relatively slowly and feels like actual love. Emily so wants to find her mother, knowing it will solve all her problems and Angus wants to make her happy, no matter what. Their sentiments show in all of their words and actions. It is, overall, a happy book with the characters growing and changing as like moves forward. I enjoyed reading theist story. I recommend it.
I received a free ARC of Highlander's Unexpected Ally. All opinions expressed herein are solely my own.
A difficult tale of a young girl, Emily who was ripped from her parents at a tender age and grew up as a slave to several bandits. They treated her worse than a dog. Then she was rescued when they stole Laird MacKenzie's wife. Sarina and Seamus welcomed her to Clan MacKenzie and gave her a home. Emily was still traumatized by what happened to her when living with the bandits for years. Even after several months Emily still lived in fear and distrust. But the love shown to her by Sarina and Seamus's family helped. Seamus's younger brother Angus took a shine to Emily but he knew she was too withdrawn to receive any amorous attention. When the bandits were found and put in the castle dungeon, Sarina gently suggested to Emily to face her fear and ask them what she wanted to know. Emily wanted to know what happened to her parents and if they were still alive. After the interrogation of one of the bandits, she found out her father was dead but there was still a chance her mother was still alive. She and Angus got Seamus's permission to go and explore all the leads on her mother. An adventure of danger, self-discovery, trust, loyalty, romance and love awaited her. An excellent read and I do recommend it.
Highlander's Unexpected Ally by Alisa Adams is a well-plotted, interesting highland tale with characters that are complex and so believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. Emily and Angus came alive for me as I pictured them falling in love and fighting for that love. All the drama, suspense, self-discovery and just enough erotic for another great read. Alisa has a way of grabbing you the first few pages and then you can't put the book down until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, from cover to cover. The Extended Epilogue rounds out the story very well. But what about the two companions.........? Also you will find Seamus and Sarina's story in Highlander's Veiled Assassin, another wonderful story!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I found the story captivating. Captured by bandits as a young girl, separated from her mother and father for years, later freed by the Mackenzie’s. As she spends time with the family, she starts to come out of her shell. Angus, the younger brother of the Laird, is attracted to her from the start and becomes her closest friend. Their adventures draw them closer and she soon realizes that she loves him.
I was very frustrated by the many times that the writer used “her” when it should have been “him” and vice versa, within the story. That is the reason that I cannot give it a higher star.
Another great read by Alisa. Emily was captured with her parents many years before being rescued. She just wants to be left alone until Aaron points out that she needs to be brave enough to discover the truth about what happened to her parents. I,would recommend this book to anyone interested in a good read I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely written here
I enjoyed this story of an English girl used as a slave to the bandits who ripped her family apart. Once saved by a kind highland clan and getting through her fears. She embarks on a journey along with the man who loves her. As they search for her mother she will find out more about herself and enjoy the love her highlander offers. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I have read and have all the books in this series. I LOVE them all. Alisa Adams is a great author, always awaiting anxiously for the next great book. I am a highland lover thru and thru. Not one to spoil a good read, so just take some good advice and read this story....as well as the others. You will love it.
Awesome book! I got lost in in the story from the first page to the last. Author Alisa Adams knows how to weave her storys. You know when you start to read a book and you get enthralled, you don't want it to end. You really want to know what happens next? Not a cliff hanger but just, you just want more. You will really enjoy this book.
I really love Alisa Adams books. This book had it all in it, love, fighting, searching for lost family. It even had play it forward back in the day. I stayed up reading since i couldn't stop.
That's what I kept telling myself, just one more minute. Next thing I knew the book was over, and it did not disappoint me. A fast and fun story written with style and grace
The title sounds like the quest belongs to the Highlander instead of him assisting an English girl. And who are the two guests at the end that came back with them.. wasn't even addressed in the epilogue.
This was an enjoyable read. The characters were great...one being damaged and one persistent. There was romance and adventure. This is a must read and you won't be disappointed.
He loves her with understanding of her former plight and helps her to find her way. She loves him for many reasons...like his always being there for her.
I enjoyed learning what life had in store for Emily and Angus. It is also nice to learn how Donald’s reading of all his books and stories comes in useful in the mountains. An interesting read.
Absolutely Loved being taken away to the wonderful Scottish past! Alisa Adams knows how to grab your attention right away and carry you on a wonderful journey!
I really enjoyed this book. The story was compelling and the characters were realistic. I especially enjoyed how Emily's character was developed from a scared, unconfident girl into a strong, determined woman who believed in herself and her choices.
