The Fling

Rate this book
Three months before her wedding to her post-college sweetheart, reality show producer Annie Collins finally acknowledges her dormant desires. Wrapped in the arms of another woman—her trainer, Oksana Gorinkov—Annie experiences a physical heat she never knew existed. Soon the one-night stand meant to be her final farewell to the single life stretches into a consuming month-long affair, the genuine intensity of which neither woman can ignore. Annie sees where her heart belongs, and though the objections from her family and friends and the scars from Oksana’s ex threaten to drive them back to their respective sides of Los Angeles, Annie knows she must fight for this relationship, a real love worth much more than any fantasy she’s ever dreamed up.

Hot hot hot.. and soaking wet!

First off I'm not a big fan of reading about anything involving infidelity. It just automatically makes me dislike characters far too easily despite how well they are written sometimes. The plot twist in this book however is that Jeff who is engaged to Annie is aware of her wanting to be with a woman.

And what a woman it is. Oksana made me sit up and take notice from the moment the character was introduced because despite appearances this woman is a teddy bear with a huge heart when it comes to her grandmother Inna and her little sister Kat. It took me a little longer to warm up to Annie but I got there eventually, though I do wish she would have told Jeff sooner about her changed feelings.

To say that these two women sizzle when they get together would be an understatement. Even when they are trying to keep their hands to themselves the amount of sexual tension is enormous. I really found myself rooting for their happily ever after and for a while it seemed to be going pretty well. The ending however is not what I was expecting. I can't understand why Oksana would react the way she did. It seems very much out of character for her and the book also ends kind of abruptly.

Definitely give this a shot if you're looking for something with a LOT of sex scenes and a fairly decent amount of angst. Ends in a satisfying 3,75* rating.

I remember reading Better Off Red, and liking it, so I have been wanting to read other books by Weatherspoon for a while. And I'm glad I did, this was a good, hot and sexy romance.
Weatherspoon is good at writing steamy, explicit sex scenes. If you are looking for a little more sizzle in your romances, you've come to the right place.
Both of the main characters were likeable, including some excellent secondary characters. I loved Baba, the Russian grandmother. I also thought the setting was really good, you definitely felt like you were in California. There was also enough angst to keep the story interesting, but not too much that it weighed it down.
I've been meaning to read the rest of Weatherspoon's vamp series, but kept forgetting about it. Reading this book reminded me that I enjoy her writing and I'm looking forward to reading her other books.
I would recommend this to any romance fans that are looking for a little "heat" in their books.

4 stars. I love how Weatherspoon strikes a fine balance between lust filled carnal debauchery and genuine emotional connection. Sex without emotion has no worth to me, but add some romance in the middle and I'm a fan. Nothing's hotter than sex between two people who care about each other.

But damn, girl, they do fuck a lot. And I mean A LOT. It's pretty much a staple for Weatherspoon by the looks of it and I'm not complaining. She writes one of the hottest scenes on the market. Pussy juices by the bucketloads.

As for the story itself. The characters were engaging, including some of the secondary ones. The plot was nice too, but I'm not a fan of infidelity aspect of it so that's where that one star went.

Overall a really enjoyable read. I have to get another book by Weatherspoon soon.

I was forewarned going into reading The Fling (see review by Alexis) and I agree that Rebekah Weatherspoon had some problems with the pacing of this story.

After an exciting start it seemed to stall in the middle to then suddenly hurdle forward and drop off a cliff. Like she was suddenly done with Annie and Oksana and suffering a heavy bout of get it over with-itis.

The premise of The Fling was good, rich white straight girl wants to have a last hurrah before she gets married. Her fantasy is to do it with a woman. Her personal trainer, a single gay bi-racial woman fits her fantasy, there is a mutual attraction and so they go for it. They hit it off too well and now Annie has a problem.

There is nothing really wrong with the story and Weatherspoon can write deliciously hot sex scenes and there were plenty of those all throughout the book. Annie’s hubby-to-be was abstract until towards the end (when he returns from his trip) and he and Annie have one scene together. Not knowing this dude somehow lessened the importance of this relationship. This is the man she’s giving up to be with Oksana but I don’t know him and so I don’t really care. Come to think of it all of Annie’s friends and family (except for Megan) where more tell than show. Oksana’s clan of family and friends where more or less properly fleshed out.

The last chapters just had me go … wait.. whut?.

f/f explicit

Themes: Hollywood, Hall and Oates’ Rich Girl is playing in the background, Taum is a psycho bitch mom from hell, baba Inna is bad-ass, tattoos and piercings, the romance felt uneasy and angst-filled all the way through (despite all the hot sex) and it made for a somewhat heavy read.

Two very likable main's with also a solid set of hilarious yet kindhearted secondary characters. As other reviewers have commented, the infidelity was handled well...or a well as infidelity can be handled.

Lots of sexy times. Book kind of ended abruptly. Wanted to know the gymnastics the two main's would partake with the gifted double ended purple dildo. Alas, we are left to our own imaginations. Harumph!

I found this to be a good, sexy read. Of course, the premise isn't ideal. Three months before she is to be wed, Annie and her (male) fiance spend a month apart while he goes to Europe with some buddies as a last hurrah. Her idea of that is that he will likely be with other women, so she decides she will give in to a long-time desire to sleep with a woman and get it out of her system. Rather than pick one up at a bar, she mentions her plan to her single, gorgeous, lesbian personal trainer Oksana (who is helping her get in shape for her wedding) who then offers to be "the one." Oksana figures it's likely harmless - a one-time fling with a beautiful woman, no strings attached. Everybody's happy and they can move on. At least that's the way it was supposed to be.
Stories like this that begin with infidelity have a lot to overcome. It's a little different in that Annie believes her fiance is likely doing the same thing and she doesn't really care. Maybe the first clue he might not have been for her. She didn't realize that strong feelings would come into play. I have to give Annie credit in many ways for how she handled things - and in other ways, not so much. These things are never easy. And it was interesting seeing the family and friends dynamics on both sides. Oksana's family was especially endearing. Annie's, not so much.
I liked this erotic romance for what it was, and if you don't immediately shut down with any love story that starts with infidelity, this was handled quite well. It ended a bit too abruptly and could have benefited from an epilogue, though. I was in the mood for something spicy and this delivered on that front.

Annie is getting married in a few months and her fiancé Jeff is going on month long bachelor’s party around Europe. Both decided that while he's away they have free reign to explore their curiosities and have any final flings. Annie is using this time to delve into her bi-curiosity and is ecstatic that her very lesbian personal trainer, Oksana who she has been attracted to from the moment they met, has agreed to be her one last fling before she gets hitched! However, when they have that one ‘no-strings attached’ night of passion, neither of them plans on falling in love...

I actually really enjoyed the storyline. I thought it was fresh and exciting. The author’s description of her protagonists was so informative that both women sounded sexy as hell.

I loved the name Oksana! Personally I find it a really cool name and Oksana herself was my favourite character. She was strong, passionate and honest - all attributes that make my favourite romantic heroines. Annie was so sweet and discovers she is genuinely in love with Oksana. The first chapter is phenomenal and caught me hook, line and sinker and I was invested in these characters from the beginning.

The sex scenes were steamy and provocative while also loving and sensuous. It was an important part of Annie and Oksana relationship and was communicated well in each scene.

Loved it and will definatley be online later tonight buying more books by Rebekah Weatherspoon. 4.5 Stars.

Having already read Rebekah Weatherspoon's "Better Off Red" (a vampire sorority girl story that was freaking hot and a refreshingly new take on vampires) I knew that I was in for some quality writing with "The Fling."

It was there - from page one, Weatherspoon's erotic style is there in full force, and she wastes no time in getting you on board for the situation. The engaged Annie has a deal with her fiance Jeff - they're spending a month prior to the wedding as a kind of "one last hurrah" time apart. What happens in this month is intended to be just that - a last fling with their time apart. Jeff, Annie knows, is off in Europe with his buddies and probably sowing his last wild oats, and so Annie takes the opportunity to test that desire she's always had to sleep with a woman.

The woman in question is Annie's personal trainer, and Oksana is incredibly different from Annie - Oksana is mixed race, tattooed and pierced, and slim and toned; Annie has always been short, is blonde-cute, and has definitely been blessed in the breast department. Annie approaches this fling as just that - a one night stand, meant to be enjoyed and remembered, and nothing more.

Except Annie starts to realize that what she feels with Oksana is something bigger than she set out to enjoy.

What I hadn't expected was to get so caught up in the sweetness of the two women - both come from histories that leave them hesitant and scarred in realistic ways, and I caught myself gobbling my way through the book to make sure that things would end well for everyone involved. Of course, when you're talking about a relationship that was supposed to be a fling before marriage, how can no one get hurt?

Fun, sweet, and - of course - hot as heck, Rebekah Weatherspoon delivers again. It's almost enough to make me forgive her for not writing the fraternity boy side of her Vampire Sorority Sisters series.

Almost.

I am utterly devastated that the promised scene with the purple double-ended dildo was never delivered. What happened Rebekah?!?!!?!! 11112!!

This is how you write consensual, and very VERY sensual, sex scenes.

The romance was cute but wtf, want my promised purple dildo scene.

I mean all is well with first chapter sex, it’s like the characters' one night stand - we don't know them so we're not invested in anything but the smut yet, but no final chapter action? Shame!

This book went all over the place. It started erotic. Than it went romantic, but in the middle of what felt like a romantic scene, one of the mc’s mentions that her pussy is wet. Then there was a part where they were talking and Annie(not a sexy name for me) finds a big dildo lying around and they start talking about that. All I could think was...what??? Her kid sister who was 15 was just in the house with her girlfriend and could have found it also. Than when Annie finally has the opportunity to tell her male fiancée(yes Annie is in an other relationship) that she fell in love with someone else and all could be good with Oksana. Here comes Annie’s mom and she turns out to be a bitch and bigot. Maybe the book would have been better if we got to see there relationship as trainer/client in the three months prior. Than I could maybe feel the chemistry buildup that I didn’t feel now. And because of the elephant in the room(infidelity) I could not get in this relationship at all. And the pieces that were promising were short. Therefore the sexscenes weren’t hot for me. And the end was also abrupt. 2 stars.

I don’t agree with the way she had her fling I think their chemistry was off the charts hot. I do think the end of the story was rushed a bit. Overall I did enjoy it and the narrator Keira Grace was fantastic

I enjoyed this book just fine. It really isn't thick with plot though, no mystery of what's going to happen. an engaged woman has a fling with a woman before getting married and ends up falling in love.
...that's about it.

So it's not a real page turner that will have you staying up late because you have to know what happens next or how it's going to end. It's mostly enjoyable strictly on the hot and steamy level. and it certainly is. you've got some very interesting characters in this book. which is a good thing since you're relying on the character development to give depth to this book, rather than any action packed story-line.

I was slightly bothered by the writing style. there were so, so many incomplete sentences and fractured thoughts. by the end i started assuming this is just the author's style of writing. but it seemed more... stilted than prose-like to me. and i also find it odd that i didn't notice this at all in her previous book, Better Off Red: Vampire Sorority Sisters Book 1, which i actually liked much better than this one.

Better Off Red was just as steamy and also had great character development. And initially i thought it was lacking much of a plot until reading this one. I think the author fared better when working with the creative license one gets with the paranormal. And again, i think the writing just seemed to flow better in that book.

I was not too fond of Annie at first, but I came around to like he ad a character eventually. Oksana was the kind of character that you just want to hug; she's sweet and caring for the most part with her family and that made me warm up to her fast. The sexual tension in the book was great, there were some super spicy scenes, and it melted well with the emotional connection between the main characters.

The story was well written for the most part. I enjoyed the plot, the steamy scenes and the character development. The infidelity aspect didn't really bother me -- I'm not a fan of real life infidelity, but in a work of fiction it doesn't bother me. I think I liked Better off Red more than The Fling; this one just had a kind of abrupt ending.

Fantastic, I get to extol Rebekah Weatherspoon and Bold Strokes Books once again. As I read this book, I laughed, I cried, and I soared right along with the lovers. Additionally, this story has such an original lead in and it hovers and caresses right till the end of the book. So many fantastic characters, so many fabulous scenes, and no loss of continuity or momentum as the story unfolded. That is freakin’ amazing! I apologize if I simply gush all over the place. I loved this book from start to finish and I’m so glad I have more of Ms. Weatherspoon’s books to read. She cannot write them fast enough as far as I’m concerned. Highly recommended!

Annie Collins needs to lose two sizes to fit into her wedding dress. She gets connected to a very fine and experienced trainer. Somewhat off the wall, she and her fiancé make a curiously original plan to spend a month apart in lieu of a bachelor and bachelorette party. He tours Europe with his best buddies. Annie has this one big fantasy she desires for herself. She wants a night with a lesbian lover and her trainer fits the bill. Oh my goodness! Annie is irrepressible, pretty on top of things at her job, but a little out of her depth when her fantasy overwhelms her heart.

Oxsanna Gorinkov is Annie’s trainer and a fantasy lover to beat all lovers! Still hurting from a devastating breakup almost four years ago, she offers to help fulfill her client’s wish and then this amazing tale takes off. Oxsanna gets barreled over by the hard to contain and hard to describe Annie. The roller coaster ride they have before Annie’s fiancé returns is nothing like the complete upheaval and astonishing turn of events that happen after Annie tells Jeff about the fate of their wedding. On a total aside note, I would love to sign up with a great trainer like Oxsanna to sculpt my body!

Oxsanna has a Russian grandmother whom she adores and obeys. I, too, had a Russian grandmother whom I loved dearly, but it would have been completely amazing if she were even a little bit like Baba Inna. Oxsanna’s family is priceless; Annie’s family is despicable adding more fuel to the fire for this top of the line adventure and hot, sexy love affair. Don’t miss it!

This was a decent read. Really hot, with very well written heroines--I was interested in who they were and where they came from, and cared about where they ended up. The story suffers from some pacing issues and lack of buildup, though. Like Annie's fiance...I get that showing too much of him would risk making Annie unsympathetic, but since so much of the story is Annie and Oksana angsting over Annie breaking up with him, his absence made it impossible to get care about the conflict.

The scenes with Annie's mother were just bizarre. She's someone we're told about but never shown until close to the end, and when we do see her her actions are so over-the-top it was hard fit it in with the rest of the story.

While I'm a fan of first chapter sex, I would have liked to see the build up with this couple, especially since the book kind of drags in the middle. The romance just happened too fast for me to buy into it. I enjoyed the sex, but the non-sex parts kept teasing me with their potential.

3.5 stars. I liked the characters of Oksana and Annie quite a bit as well as the supporting cast. As always, Weatherspoon delivers on the steamy scenes and doesn't hold back there. However, I found 'The Fling' to be my least favorite among her writings. In this book, there was a cloud hovering over the relationship in that Annie needed to break up with her fiance but other than that it was kind of anticlimactic. It was also strange to me how Oksana reacts at the end before coming around again. It is an interesting read, though, in that the book is about a woman finding out what she truly desires before getting married and following through on those discoveries without shame for having them (she does feel guilty over hurting her fiance but she feels liberated in her feelings). Overall, it's a decent read but if this is your first Weatherspoon book, be sure to check out her others.

at first i was really into this book
it was the first "real" sounding book of this type i had read
all was great and hot
but then...

(spoiler alert)

after they are together and annie breaks up with that dude and oksana is all mad at her because she needed space? wtf? duh. she was with that dude for like 10 years, was straight and they were engaged! why wouldn't she need space? it's clearly not about oksana.
also why did they get so damn clingy so fast? UHAUL LESBIANS = NOT HOT

maybe it isn't the authors job to help create a culture of healthy relationships, but if no one is reflecting such things back to us, who will?

The book starts out hot, shifts into cute and goes back and forth between the two. It's largely character, rather than plot-driven, but that works very well for me when I can enjoy and sympathize with both characters.

This might not work for people who can't deal at all with cheating, but I thought that aspect was handled deftly and sensitively.

I have two questions for romances where the characters cheat together.

Are their actions believable and sympathetic?
It's quite believable that they'd catch feelings after a one night stand.
As for sympathy, Annie and Jeff, her fiancé, have an agreement that they won't ask about their time apart. She uses this as a free pass; . I wasn't expecting this, usually there are revelations that make the couple's actions more sympathetic. Jeff isn't Fiancé of the Year™, but he's not an awful person. I wasn't upset on his behalf, but I wasn't thrilled with Annie either.
Why can't the character leave their partner?
. I found this frustrating and somewhat out of character for Oksana. She has her younger sister to think of, why didn't she draw a boundary? I wanted to see something similar to Marry Me, where Allison ends her engagement with Brent before pursuing a relationship with Megan.

An additional annoyance is that there's an extremely late third act breakup: .

rate it as: 4.0/5.0 i like it, i particularly liked how jeff was 99% not in the book as himself so i didnt have to hate him, same with vivian but what i dont like is how they never got anal sex and never got to use their big purple thing even tho it was mentioned like three times?? i do love their chemistry tho and i like how the author gave anne a tattoo at the end ugh
-
read it as: online copy
-
favorite chapters: 4/6/11/12/13
-
quotes i liked:
1. “I’ll be…the one. If you want.” “You’ll sleep with me?” They had laughed. It sounded crazy out loud.
2. “But if you slip a finger in my ass and finger my pussy just right, I’ve been known to squirt. A lot.” “Oh.” Oh, fuck! “We might have to try that.”
3. With a sudden joy, Annie realized she would never have to measure up to this toy. She almost laughed. It must really suck to be a guy.
4. “I’m giving you the giggly butterflies again, aren’t I?” “Yes.”
5. Oksana was too important. She cared for her too much to risk hurting her. Annie wanted Oksana long-term. Their own kids, their own house, and over-sized slobbering mutt long-term. It was a scary conclusion, but it was the truth.

Okay, so I admit, I approached this book skeptically. The cover and the premise made it sound trashy. But the book actually felt very grounded. I found there were a bit too many sex scenes for my taste, but there was good chemistry between the couple, and a really strong supporting cast. 2/3 romance rating -- good but not great.

Back when I started this book, there was just something about it that immediately got me hooked. I cant even put a finger on what it was exactly. I loved Oksanas personality and how she decided how things should go for her. I loved how all of this turned out. I’ve just finished reading and I already miss them...
