From the best-selling author of Pretty Killer, No Justice, and 12 comes Secrets We Keep, an intense new stand-alone thriller.
John thought what happened in London would stay in London. He was wrong.
As a successful author with a wife and two daughters he adores, John Treadwell should be happy. But while an ocean away from his family, he drunkenly hooks up with one of his biggest fans to chase away the loneliness.
After his one-night stand, John is sure he’ll be able to hide this moment of weakness from his family. After all, the woman he slept with lives in London, and there’s no way they’ll ever see each other again.
But John isn’t about to get away so easy. His biggest fan has grander plans than just a single drunken night …
An intense psychological thriller that explores the ways secrets can destroy those who hold them, Secrets We Keep is perfect for fans of Darcey Bell and Harlan Coban, or movies like A Simple Favor and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
Secrets We Keep is a tense psychological thriller that includes adult language and situations. While it is all within the context of the story, some readers may find this content offensive. Intended for mature audiences.
Nolon King writes smart psychological thrillers designed to leave you on the edge of your seat. His stories are dark, twisty, and often decidedly close to home.
He’s not afraid to explore the darker side of human nature through stories featuring families torn apart by secrets and lies. If you enjoy reading authors like Darcey Bell and Harlan Coban, movies like A Simple Favor and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, or shows like Ozark and Dead to Me, you’ll love Nolon King.
When not writing you will find Nolon drinking black coffee and observing humans in their natural habitats.
This book was described by someone as basically as the movie fatal attraction in a book but I don’t necessarily agree with that.
I would say it’s a less violent, more literary version of fatal attraction and it’s got a lot more depth to it.
So I don’t need to go over the plot. I sometimes do that my reviews, but what you see is what you get with this one.
Happily married man has one night stand with crazy stalker , who then shows herself to be a complete psychopath.
Here is the thing. The stalker aspect of it was mildly enjoyable. It didn’t really require a lot of brain power however, there was another aspect to this, that I found fascinating, and that was the main character himself John, the writer,
The depth of character that this author brought to the story, really raises it above your typical stalker story, elevating it into a surprisingly soulful story of secrets, guilt and regret
What I really enjoyed was reading about the writing process. I am a writer, but I write articles and short stories. I’ve never attempted to write a book. It was fascinating to read about how book series work.
I mean I really gobbled this book down and read it in a few hours as it’s really not all that long but it’s much better than your average stalker story.
SPOILERS
I felt kind of sorry for John. Yes he made a mistake, but he was also roofied so one has to take that into consideration.
Originally, I really didn’t like Vicky as a character but once again, she had multiple layers and I’m very appreciative towards this author who really nailed the depth of character in all the personalities in this book because it’s kind of rare that that happens in the genre.
I’m glad John was forgiven at the end and what I also found refreshing is that this is not a book with the last half a page having some kind of crazy twist that changes everything in the book.
The only thing I didn’t love was that the stalker, Becky and the sex talk became a bit much. I could’ve done without that but at the end of the day this is a fun few hours to spend getting lost in a book that to me definitely had more literary substance then some people give it credit for.
I love that line about the secrets that we keep being responsible for murdering relationships. I think that’s a phrase that it’s going to imprint itself on my mind. Highly recommended.
I picked this up last month as a freebie. It screamed Fatal Attraction, and I’m a HUGE fan of crazy OW, so I snatched it up. John's in London for business when he meets Lottie. Initially, his inner monologue is that he’s researching for a book and will just bask in a younger woman’s attention, but somewhere between his “last drink: he fuzzes out and wakes the next am in Lottie’s apartment where she lets him know they had sex…3 times.
The writing isn’t bad, but I did have trouble connecting mainly because I found each of the three mc’s very unlikeable. Unlike Dan Gallagher, John Treadwell doesn’t appear to really regret his dalliance, nor does it feel like he even loves his wife. Said wife, Vicky, is portrayed as cold, prudish, inflexible, and suffering from some type of bipolar disorder. She’s unkind to her children, and even slaps her baby. John is wimpy, selfish, and his character is flat. He’s stupid, and totally manipulated by lust even after knowing she’s a psycho. Lottie/Becca is crazy, but again flat. There’s really no depth to her character.
I kept asking myself what was the point of plot. I felt like I was a passenger in the car, but we were driving in circles. All the parts are moving separately and it was missing some type of cohesion. Parts are illogical, and a big stretch from real life.
Bottom Line I finished it. I was frustrated and confused, but I did hang on to see where we were going. In a nutshell, it had the bones of Fatal Attraction, but the delivery was totally different.*There’s not a ton of sex, but the language/actions are pretty crude so FYI if that’s not your thing.
I selected this book blindly when it was freely obtainable on Amazon. The title has 'Secrets' & no better motivation was needed for me to choose this suspense novel (you can clearly assume that from the label). It started off nicely with mysterious connectivity that attracts its bibliophiles. But occasionally, I discovered it to be a yawner, sets added only for the sake of it.
The sensual surroundings felt like a hopeless condition & readily avoidable. It actually took out the heart of the exciting tale. Nevertheless, the finale made up for everything that was doomed to fail with the excessive details. My only desire was that the fiend should have carried a more extreme measure, akin to the personality shown.
Across the board, I wouldn't say it was a fantastic read, but mystery fans can give it a try, particularly for its end.
This novel is about a family man 🚹 who with his wife is a writer of novels. He has a a one night 🌙 stand in London and is being stocked by that person.
I would recommend this novel and author to 👍 readers of romantic relationships adventure novels 👍🔰. 2023 😀👒🏡💘
Uncomfortably erotic for half of the book. I was desperate to make an exit at every use of the word ‘dick’ which is a good 50 times. But what the storyline lacked was made up for in the later parts of the book, though I wish we could see the dangerously stalker behaviour further and more intricately.
Ok, Wow, this book was CrAzY! Really great but crazy. It was a fun read but made my soul feel unclean with all the raunchy sex. John Treadwell really got himself tangled up with someone who is horrible and severely manipulative. Having no respect for anyone not even herself. It was interesting things that happened to a man instead of it usually happening to a female. Not that I wish it on anyone. Good read and got through it quickly!
Secrets We Keep, broadly speaking, is the film Fatal Attraction in book form. A married man has a brief but intense sexual encounter with a single woman; she wants the affair to continue, he does not. What you read below takes place in the first third of the book. The remaining two-thirds, which I will not disclose, is where the story really gets going.
John is the Michael Douglas character. In this version, he is a published American author, whose unstable wife Vicky does not satisfy him sexually. While alone in London on business, John meets the seductive Lottie in a bar, and despite being drunk and tempted, he is determined not to cheat on his wife. He had never done so before and he was not about to begin now.
The next morning, however, he wakes up naked in Lottie’s bed with no memory of how he got there or what he did there. John is consumed with guilt and regret from Lottie’s lurid description of their one night together. He wants only to return to his wife, children and life in America, and since he had not told Lottie his real name, John figured she would never be able to find him again.
But of course, anyone who’s watched Fatal Attraction knows that a slighted woman can be ruthless. Lottie is not simply a literary fan of John, she is fanatically his fan, and had concocted an elaborate plot to meet, seduce, entrap and endanger him, not only while he was in London, but after he returns to what he thought was the safety and security of his home in New York.
But wait, there’s more. John’s unstable wife Vicky is also his business partner and co-author of a successful series of popular books they had written together. Married twice before to unfaithful husbands, Vicky had told John she would never tolerate him cheating on her. If she ever discovered even one indiscretion, he would lose her, their daughters and his livelihood.
John desperately needs to rid Lottie from his life, but he’s trapped because her pursuit of him is relentless, she’s in multiple ways squeezing him where it hurts the most, and he’s torn between loathing and lust. I had thought that the book’s resolution might borrow from another famous film, Crimes and Misdemeanors, where a man’s marriage and profession were also threatened by his infidelity.
Secrets We Keep is full of dread, dirty words and deeds, and surprises. How John balances and handles his two unstable women is derivative pulp fiction at its finest. A word of caution: Before beginning Chapter 35, don’t forget to fasten your seatbelts.
Storyline was boring, really no plot. Figured it out in 1st chapter. Characters had no character. I can usually read a book in a day. Had to keep putting this one down and coming back to it. Good luck n the next book.
What a ride! This was a very fast-paced book, and I loved it! It had me hooked from the first chapter, the ending I feel like was missing something but can't figure out what (which is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars). Definitely will try more from Nolon King.
I loved this book. It kept me interested the whole entire time. I loved the dynamics of the different relationships and how it contrasted the storyline.
•••Secrets We Keep by Nolon King // 3.25 out of 5 stars••• Spicer than what I expected and mildly uncomfortable and cringy at times. The later half of the book really picked up, but I am not sure the there really was much payoff.
This was an Amazon Prime freebie....Not my usual cup of tea, and not for the faint of heart...this book is pretty filthy. Lots of graphic sex. The main character is basically being led around by his dick. However, I found it oddly compelling and read it quickly til the ending. Which I hated.
This book was not at all what I was expecting, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! The smut caught me off guard but definitely was required for the reader to truly understand the characters and dynamics. The suspense kept you engaged from start to finish! Highly recommend it!
I stumbled across this psychological domestic thriller as a recommendation on one of the many reading fb groups I belong to. With only 1100 ratings on goodreads, it is a hidden gem of a book.
In a nutshell, John and his wife Vicky write novels for a living. John attends a writers conference in London and hooks up with Lottie. He has no recollection of what happened the night they met, only recalls flirting in the bar and then waking up in her bed. Lottie certainly does remember the details and becomes obsessed with John. She follows him back to his home in the US and injects himself into his life by having his wife hire him as their nanny. Yes, a little far fetched but the stalker creep vibes are all over this. John's life is ready to blow up...in 5....4....3....2....
This is a fast no brain read. Easy to figure out the characters, easy to figure out the story and easy to absolutely dislike all of the main characters. Your typical man cheats and doesn't want wife to find out story line with a psychopath stalker thrown in the mix. I think any man who cheats on his wife deserves what is coming to him so I was there to find out how this was going to go down.
The ending underwhelmed me but overall, I found it attention holding, enjoyed the writing style and finished it over two nights reading at bedtime.

I read 12 by this author and really enjoyed it so downloaded this off the back of that one but it's like another person wrote it ! I'm clearly NOT the target audience being a female in her 50s as it's definitely written with horny blokes in mind. It just comes across as a tawdry porn story...he's been reading too many Readers' Wives or some such tripe. It did sound an interesting idea and I was really looking forward to it but language such as "You definitely know how to drill a girl" was all a bit crass for me and I don't know ANY woman who would say something quite so terrible, trust me. I'm no prude but porn just doesn't interest me, whether televised or written. I got 20 pages in and I'd seen enough, though I'd not seen any mistakes by this point, which is something. Just isn't for me so I'm passing on this particular set of stories by him. I'm quite surprised Amazon have it badged as a Suspense Thriller with no mention of the adult content.
I enjoyed the way the suspense built as this novel progressed. In this regard, it was very well structured. John Treadwell is a literary author who has taken to co-authoring serial books with his wife, as this makes better money. They work at home and have two daughters, a teen and a toddler. John is devoted to his family, though his wife's severe mood swings can be problematic.
At a conference in London, he gets drunk, doesn't remember what happened, and wakes up with a beautiful fan of his work. We then get a reworking of the classic Fatal Attraction storyline, but it's covered in a fresh, compelling way.
I really, really like this book until the climax, then denouement, where I felt a bit cheated and rushed. But the conversations were all believable, the characters interesting. A fun read!
Secrets We Keep by is a dark and seductive thriller that explores obsession, deceit, and the dangerous allure of forbidden desire. The story follows John, a successful writer whose life is upended when Becca, an enticing but unhinged fan, infiltrates his world.
Their involvement quickly spirals into chaos as Becca’s true intentions are revealed. She’s not just an obsessive fan —she’s a stalker determined to dismantle John’s life piece by piece. The tension is palpable, the chemistry electrifying, and the twists utterly captivating.
Sexy, spicy, and unapologetically dark, Secrets We Keep keeps readers on the edge of their seats with its vivid storytelling and psychological depth. It’s a gripping tale of desire turned deadly, perfect for fans of steamy suspense.
The best way to describe this is a mixture of Fatal Attraction and Misery.
Currently free on Amazon Australia so my expectations were quite low but I actually really liked this book. It was exciting from beginning to end.
I don’t know why but I actually felt for the main character John and disliked his wife Vicky. Not sure if this is what the author was going for but I felt like I was in the wrong for feeling this way.
The ending was unique. I love that the author provided a chapter for a year later as well as an epilogue. Nothing worse than when an author abruptly ends a book and you need to work out the ending for yourself.
I’m looking forward to reading another book by Nolon King.
Never read anything by this author but enjoyed this book. I read it in one sitting and was not disappointed. For myself it started a tad bit slow but did not take long to hold my interest. I totally understood how John got mixed up with Lottie. Being a woman myself and understanding that after years of marriage and falling into a rut and letting someone new stroke a bruised ego can lead to more. I can also see why John felt guilty and had no clue how to handle that guilt, but she did. Will read more from this author.
John made a deadly mistake that changes everything. He woke up in a strange bed not remembering anything. And now the woman has followed him back home. He has no idea how to get rid of her. And now he is becoming desperate as she has become part of his family. John knows that things isn't going go end well for him or his family. But he has no idea how far she is willing to go. A good read. John is a weak man but a good man even though he falls into her trap. Unfortunately he loses everything but he does come out a better man.
I have to give this 2 stars even though it's not horrible, the main character is extremely unlikeable, but the fact that the author dismisses his r@p3 like this is crazy to me. This had potential to be really cool if it was done completely different from the start , like if he actually cheated because he wanted to , or because he was drunk , or whatever it was .. but if it's not consensual from the get go... its a no from me. Or at least treat it differently , because why didn't he tell his wife about it as soon as he understood he was drugged ??

I truly enjoyed this book and have already gotten the next in the series what a wonderful author so glad I stumbled upon his first book. Now I am following him and will be spending the winter sitting and reading
This story line grabbed my attention. I totally agree with how John handled the stalker it could happen to anyone so I suggest you read and enjoy this book
