Warrior Queen

Rate this book
On a lost world, far removed from Earth, a group of humans struggle to survive. Two thousand years after their ancestors lost control of a hidden genetics research facility, the descendants of mankind have been reduced to a tribe of two hundred survivors. They fight, kill, and die in an endless cycle, all in the hope that things will get better. Lucia is one of these colonists and the daughter of the tribe's leader, the Director. Together with several other candidates, she must soon undergo a trial to decide her father's replacement. The winner will shape the future of the entire colony. But the trial is dangerous, meant to test each candidate's wits and strengths to see who is truly worthy. To claim victory, Lucia will need to venture out into the tunnels near the city to search for lost artifacts known as Cores--small but powerful devices capable of harnessing endless energy. But there are monsters here, waiting in the dark, and they are always hungry. Beware the Boneclaw, Lucia's father use to tell her, for it lives only to kill and to feed. Lucia must do whatever it takes, learn as much as she can, and fight with every ounce of strength if she hopes to make it through the day. Forget winning the trial. The real challenge is staying alive.

Warrior Queen. J. N. Chaney

Lucia is the daughter of their tribal leader. Her life is very hard, brutal. She lives in a very inhospitable environment. That is all she knows. Survival is a learned necessity. Other members of the colony where she lives in are seeking to replace her father as their tribal leader. Their motives unsurprisingly are self serving and very predictable. This is a fast moving and very enjoyable read.

Another great story from the Renegade Universe...

More of the Renegade Universe backstory, this time focusing on Lucia and her rise to become Director. While I didn’t enjoy this one as much as Al the constable’s story it was still an entertaining read. Well worth the time.

Lucia’s Origin

This was a look at Lucia’s origin, prior to the events of Renegade Star. She kicked butt and the book over all was fun to read. Excited for another!

Lucia's origins, mutiny and intelligent boneclaws?

This novel features Lucia who will become an integral part of the Renegade Star saga. 17-year-old Lucia Visaro is one of the finalists to succeed her dad as the leader of known survivors in a frigid climate, so is her smarmy rival, Nero, who’s always up for mischief and whose father was her dad’s rival in their leadership trials years ago. The trial tally has Nero besting Lucia and his dad immediately challenges Lucia’s dad!

The unorthodox challenge stands and the two fight, during the ensuing chaos, Nero’s dad and his followers escape. Lucia and a couple of friends give chase, followed by the very beast their population hunts for their daily needs. As logic kicks in, the trio is solidly trapped and Lucia realizes they’ve been neatly herded into position.

A look at the ancient Lucia's backstory which is full of lots of butt-kicking and adventure. A very good glimpse at why Lucia is such a bad-ass.

Story of Lucia's early years when she was learning to be a warrior. I was so unhappy about Lucia's demise in Renegade Star book 10 that I almost didn't read this. But was glad I did and looking forward to a sequel.

A warrior and a leader

It was good reading about Lucia’s journey from young woman to leader. We see her fierce warrior spirit, loyalty, and determination to save her people. It helps to give a greater depth to her as an older warrior in the Renegade Star books. Definitely worth reading.
