Being strong doesn’t make you a hero, but doing what is right does. Gemma Anderson has always been the ugly duckling of the family. Overweight, shy, and picked on...not just by friends, but by family. She turned to food for comfort, which only compounded her misery. As an adult, she’d had enough of her lonesome life and decided in order to break out of her horrible habits and routine, she had to move away, or risk being alone forever. Blake Wilson had one of the most dysfunctional lives of anyone he’d ever known. He grew up just wanting a stable family home life and knew if he ever got it, he’d have to avoid the drama of his current family. He enlisted in the service, then went into law enforcement. He’d always wanted to do right by people and prove he was nothing like his family. Now if he could only find the right woman.
The Love Collection is a collection of stand alone books. This is not a series and can be read in any order.
Gemma and Blake both suffered abuse at the hands of their families. Gemma’s was psychological and emotional ruining her self-esteem and causing her to self-medicate by eating. Blake’s parents divorced when he was young and dated awful people and made him question ever wanting to be in a long-term relationship. Her mother gave Gemma digs and never seemed proud of her accomplishments. Amelia definitely has issues when she’s putting Gemma down to make herself feel good. I didn’t like how Blake said in his mind Gemma was shy and not a slut. If she was confident, that wouldn’t automatically make her promiscuous. He was so focused on how good she looked now after losing weight and getting toned, but he should have been more understanding about how hard it was to be around food temptations. I lost weight and struggled with that myself.
I have read all of the Love Series. This one was good, but not as good as most of the others. It's probably just me, but I could enjoy these books just as much without all the lovemaking details. I love the characters and the story lines though. All of Natalie's books are very easy to get involved in right away. I like that in a book. I recommend this one along with any of her books.
I didn't really like it that much, but I think that was because something about Blake rubbed me the wrong way.
One of the first things he said is about knowing a slut when he sees one - this made me want to punch him in the face. I also think he pushed Gemma into admitting her feelings before she was ready, it seemed like everything had to be done on his time schedule.
Wonderful, enlightening romance. Blake is an investigator with the Police Dept. Gemma just moved to town to start her new job. They’ve both been put through a tough life with their families. They’re both hesitant to even just date. It’s a sweet romance with drama, self doubt and making a real connection. I look forward to reading future books by Ms Ann.
What a great quick love story between Gemma and Blake. Both have been hurt in their past by their family and never really felt true love before. It was great to see them find love together and give in to that simple love.
