Peyton Turner wants nothing more than to become a lawyer. She’s worked hard, scrimping and saving so she can attend Yale Law School in the fall. Then, her life takes an unexpected turn when a great travel deal comes along. Twickenham Manor is everything she expected, that is, until she’s transported back in time to 1813!
John, the Marquess of Wessex, became intrigued by Peyton the moment he laid eyes on her. She’s so vastly different from the other eligible young ladies and their scheming mothers surrounding him, that he immediately sets out to make Peyton his own. He believes his mother can teach her to fit in, despite her uncanny ability to stand out.
Enter two unsavory characters from John’s past intent on causing mayhem. Danger forces Peyton and John to overlook their differences and work together.
When the truth is finally revealed, will John accept that she’s a time traveler? Or will Peyton leave John, and her heart, and go back to her own time?
This book has a complete HEA, but is best enjoyed after reading An Unexpected Gentleman.
Laura Beers is an award-winning author. She attended Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management. She can't sing, doesn't dance and loves naps.
Laura lives in Utah with her husband, three kids, and her dysfunctional dog. When not writing regency romance, she loves waterskiing, hiking, and drinking Dr Pepper.
This was another fun twist of the classic regency romance- a Twickenham Time Travel book. You definitely need to do as the author says and read her other Twickenham Time Travel Romance before this one, as they intertwine with each other and this book would not make nearly as much sense otherwise. I thought the romance was sweet but goodness I got frustrated a time or two by a certain character’s actions. The ending was beautifully resolved though, and I loved the turns the plot took and the way the story turned out. Another good clean romance for sure!

MY TAKE I enjoyed the first book in the story about Amelia, so it was fun to get to see her and Adam again.
Peyton's journey to love is a rough one. There are a lot of differences and mental adjustments that have to take place. She comes to hers more quickly than John does, and he messes things up pretty bad. There's a lot of humble pie that needs to be eaten. :D
Note: I do recommend reading “An Unexpected Gentleman” (Adam and Amelia’s story) first to get the full beginning of Peyton and John’s relationship.
“I am questioning your abilities to deduce logic, especially since you are a spy” Peyton and John are almost complete opposites. John is a marquees from 1813 and Payton is a teacher/ potential lawyer from 2018. John loves the fact that Peyton isn’t like any women he has ever met yet he is still trying to conform her to be a woman fit to become a marchioness. Peyton has “American radical” ideas that are not becoming of a woman of the century John is a part of. Peyton on the other hand wants nothing to do with titles and extreme wealth, she only wants to find her love match and have an equal partnership in all things. Sparks fly, and misunderstandings ensue in this wonderful story of love and happily ever afters. I am so extremely happy that we got Peyton and Johns story. I hope Laura Beers continues writing for this series. Such a fun addition.
John, the Marquess of Wessex has a fascination with the strange American lady, Page Turner. He is mystified by her behavior and yet he finds himself attracted to her. He hopes that she will change her ways when he determines to marry her.
Page Turner has always wanted to be a lawyer. Now through time travel, she finds herself immersed in a time where ladies are not allowed to be independent or outspoken. She struggles to adapt to history. She finds herself drawn to the Marquess of Wessex but she struggles with the way ladies suppressed rights of the past.
This is a sweet time travel romance. It brings together two different people raised in two different eras. It is a quick read with romance, adventure and some humor. I am not a big fan of time travel romance but it is well written. I do love this author and her other series as well. I would recommend this for those looking for something a bit different from the normal romances. I received an ARC for my honest opinion and reaction to the story.
“John groaned. This was a lie that even he couldn’t swallow. He loved Peyton more than anything else, and he had no idea how he would move in without her in his life. But first, he had to get her back alive.”
The Unlikely Suitor by Laura Beers is a fun twist to a time travel novel! Peyton is from 2018 thrust into London 1813. John is easy to fall in love with. But is he worth giving up her hard work building her career and all the necessities the future can offer? And if she agrees to marry him, will their love be enough through the cultural divide? Beers always writes entertaining stories filled with torn emotions, humor, love, and even some espionage. I thoroughly enjoy reading anything she writes! The only thing I would add for this story is a little more build up in their courting stage! But I thought the time travel was a fun twist and something I don’t read much of that I liked!
This is another fun read from Laura Beers. It is her second book in the Twickenham Time Travel series. I would highly recommend reading her first book, "An Unexpected Gentleman," before reading this one. Our main characters, Peyton and John, are introduced in the first book and it is easier to follow their story line if you have read the previous book. It's interesting to consider all the changes one would have to make to leave the present time and arrive back in the Regency period. Peyton has to decide what she is willing to give up and determine if John is her true love. It's a rocky road that hopefully leads to her happily ever after. This is a clean romance that is well written and well edited. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily post this review.
I understand that if someone who didn’t read the prequel is jumping into the story, things must be explained, but the exact same words were used in so many occasions and the plot didn’t very enough from the first book to hold my interest. I would not recommend this book though I would recommend the first book in this series—this one turned out monotonous and cheesy.
I loved Peyton and John’s story! To better understand it, I would recommend reading An Unexpected Gentleman first. Then you get to read Adam and Amelia’s story! Although I haven’t read many time travel books, this kept my interest throughout with a good plot and how is this gonna turn out. I received an Advance readers copy from the author. These are my own opinions.
Peyton Elizabeth and John are a quirky couple. They are both strong willed and opinionated. They are in love and made for each other. Time has its ups and downs, but these two show a dramatic educated move in the past and in creating the future for themselves and all around them. My favorite time traveler so far.
A charming time travel romance! This was definitely a quick read for me and I was sad to reach the end. Peyton is a determined young woman and I love how she doesn't succumb to societies wishes and demands. A wonderful addition to the Twickenham series!
My only grievance was not doing a few pages describing their trip to London in the future. I would have enjoyed reading more of his reaction to the differences in their times
Love the plot in this Twickenham Time Travel Romance. Every time a read another book that is added I am always surprised how the author manages to find a great, fun and exciting plot. Thank you Laura Beers for a great read!
This story was a very enjoyable sequel. Peyton struggled with ambivalent thoughts and feelings about choosing an alternate life than she had planned for herself and had to decide what was most important to her. Thank you Ms. Beers for another good read.
I’m enjoying this series of stories with magic and time travel. It’s a fun easy read and transports you between two worlds but shows a lot of love of the characters.
Loved Payton and John’s story. She is a teacher who will be attending Yale Law School. He is a 19th century Marquee. Can these two find middle ground and come together. Love the story and the time traveling pretext.
Another lovely story in this series. Peyton’s love and compassion makes her character a wonderful one. The whole story, as with all the books in this series, give a very good description of the Monarchy families of the Regency and Victorian period.
An Unlikely Suitor An excellent easy to read story, well written, with wonderful characters and attention to detail. A romances full of unexpected turns and twist or two with a touch of magic and happily ever after
Love the story of Peyton and John was very well written. How 2 people from different centuries can fall in love and not be able to share peytons secrets until the end.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. I enjoyed this story of Peyton and John. It was fun to see their relationship develop in this book. I had to remind myself a bit what I already knew about them and Amelia and Adam so the beginning was a bit slow for me to make sure I had everything right. But once it got going, it really flowed well. Time travel isn’t usually a genre I read, but I like this storyline.
