A murdered unemployed entertainer. An evil campaign of unchallenged rumors. Can a small town bakery owner who's caught in the middle prove her innocence?
When Meghan receives a mouth-watering offer to cater for a funeral, she's more than happy to accept it. Still, she has to set aside her reservations about the carnival atmosphere which the client is seeking to project.
As an entertainer hired for the event, collapses and dies, while performing at a dress rehearsal for the funeral, all eyes focus on Meghan as the cause of his demise. Her selection of finger foods are pinpointed as the source of the allergic reaction which killed the deceased.
Hurtful comments and a mass avoidance of her bakery by the citizens of Sandy Bay, leave Meghan feeling fearful, vulnerable and confused.
Repeated lies can sometimes become the accepted truth...
Who do you turn to when no one believes you?...
It seems like Meghan's business and reputation will soon be dead and buried under the mountain of negative energy targeted at her. Can she set aside her emotions and piece together the clues that will lead her to the real killer in the nick of time?
I can say the writing in the series is getting better with this book. Much better. There is more detail and more interactions between characters. That said, the story here just falls flat. Things just don’t make sense a lot of the time.
First off, I’ve never seen a town more fickle. They just don’t seem to have any sense as a populace. Or even the individual residents. They judge quickly and harshly. They seem to have little common sense and are just plan overreactive everything.
There were the normal pitfalls this series has. Everything is truly sweet, and everyone can’t remember each other’s names. Every other sentence in conversation has the character’s name in it. This has been going on 14 books so far.
Outside of the normal pitfalls though, the writing was good. As stated there were more details involved in the events going on. There were more conversations held that had significance to the story. The was even side drama rather than just a linear storyline.
Overall, not great, but good. I enjoyed this book, I really did. I hope to continue the series at some point soon and while I can’t recommend the whole of the series as something that is a must read. It does make for a quick easy read for on-the-go reading.
An entertainer dies at a funeral home after ingesting nuts. It appears that he was highly allergic to nuts. His longtime girlfriend accuses Meghan of killing him. As Meghan tries to investigate how he might have been exposed to her banana nut bread, she finds out all sorts of things about people.
This is another fun mystery. The town has lots of interesting characters and the story is clean and not scary. I think it can be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages.
I listened to the audio version of this book and I thought the narrator did a fantastic job. She has different voices for the characters, which adds to the performance. I recommend this book.
Audiobook: I enjoyed this mystery as much as the others in the series. I felt for Meghan as she dealt with the fallout from the rumors which were circulating around the town. I understood Meghan's reservations regarding the raucous celebration at a funeral. I appreciated the smalltown setting. I liked the quirky characters and the flashes of humor. I thought Elena Marino's narration was charming, and her performance enhanced my enjoyment of the story. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
Nuts and a Choking Corpse: Sandy Bay Cozy Mystery, Book 14, my fifteenth read from author Amber Crewes. Well-written & enjoyable. another cute, clean cozy mystery. I really enjoy the development of the supporting characters over the course of the series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Elena Marino who has become the voice for Meghan Truman. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. I was disappointed in the spelling and editorial errors in this book which is why I’m giving it 3 stars only. It’s a short lightweight read even for a cozy. The teenage drama was too much and seemed to be used as a filler. Not adding anything to the story. It’s a clean read, no swearing, sex or crudeness which is a positive, but the characters do not endear themselves to me.
Meghan can't believe that her food caused someone to die. She is so very careful about these things. But the rumor mill is working overtime and it could put her out of business and worse! She isn't going to stand back and let that happen, she is going into full investigator mode to find who really is the killer. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I loved the full characters and the storyline was well written. Loads of twists and turns and enough suspects to keep the reader guessing. Loved every minute of it!
It’d been way too long since I read anything in the Sandy Bay series and I was happy to get back to it especially after reading the first two books in the author’s newest series. I’d really missed Meghan and Jack being such a cute couple as well as Karen being an awesome friend who always knows exactly the right thing to say to make Meghan feel better.
I was totally surprised by whodunit since I had someone else in mind who I really wanted to be guilty lol. Looks like I’ve got the next book in line as well so hopefully I won’t let such a long time pass before getting around to reading it.
Meghan Truman is a suspect to a death due to an allergy to nuts. The police do not think she is guilty, but rumors are hurting her business. Amber Crewes has a lot going on in this book, but she plots things out making several people look guilty. Now it is your turn to figure out who committed the murder. It was difficult to put down this book. Happy reading! 😊
