I always play a paladin if I manage to roll up the stats for it. No exceptions.

The character closest to my heart...as a player I most often play a paladin (of one type or another). Here was the first book to introduce the idea that a paladin could be more than a Cavalier type knight in full plate with lance and shield. There is the peasant hero for example...

The paladin is my favorite character and can be difficult to play correctly, the ideas here will help both DM and player. Myself having decided to stay with 2nd edition...I still have this set.
