I didn't really know what to expect - I thought it would be more centered around on-site techniques (like the first practical chapter, covering use of transits and stringlines for foundations); but the majority of the book was dedicated to preparatory planning and layout with pen and paper.
It was dry, but very useful information.
Most of the techniques are variations and repetition on application of basic Pythagorean geometry and trigonometry.
