Jan Coffey, Nik James, and May McGoldrick are pen names for USA Today bestselling authors Nikoo Kafi and Jim McGoldrick. Together, they have crafted over fifty fast-paced, conflict-filled historical, contemporary, and Western novels, and two works of nonfiction.

Nikoo’s education and training was in engineering. She worked in robotics and submarine shipbuilding. Before earning a PhD in sixteenth-century Scottish and English literature, Jim pursued a hundred and one jobs, including a decade in submarine construction.

Storytellers at heart, Nikoo and Jim were always searching for careers that gave them time for both family and writing. Then, after thirteen years of marriage, they recognized each other’s creative strengths. Nikoo is all about characters and feeling. Jim is about action and sense of place. Their first attempt in writing fiction together produced their award-winning novel, The Thistle and the Rose. Since then, their stories have touched the hearts and minds of millions of readers all over the world. Their work has been translated into over a dozen languages and counting.

Nikoo and Jim are four-time Rita Finalists and the winners of numerous awards for their writing, including the Daphne DeMaurier Award for Excellence, the Romantic Times Magazine Reviewers’ Choice Award, three NJRW Golden Leaf Awards, two Holt Medallions, and the Connecticut Press Club Award for Best Fiction.

The authors make their home in California.

Not the most well-written story I've ever read, but it was interesting, and surprisingly thought-provoking at times. Bordering on science fiction, the basis of the story becomes more and more possible every day.

This is my second book by this writing team, and I know I will be reading more! They write in several genres, this is their thriller nom de plume. Although written many years ago, it is still topical and spot on, dealing with school shootings, the ethics of scientific research, and a police procedural. A sudden outbreak of good kids gone bad has brought together a secret service agent and a doctor who is the mother of one of the shooters. This is indeed a "good read" as they come to a gripping conclusion.

The only word I can use to describe this book is lame. It started out with an interesting and sadly timely premise, but about a quarter of the way through the book, it bogged down. The writing was stale. The plot was sluggish. The characters poorly developed. It contained a would be romance that isn't and an ending that is forced, confusing and unresolved.

Mind boggling

An Amazing mystery of intrigue and greed. Written with a mix of passion, fear, excitement and emotion. The author ties them all together incredible twists of the plot.

This one was very different from anything I've ever read... The author did a fantastic job creating such story line... However, there were too many characters to keep up with.

A well written story that was easy to read. Definitely centered around a very tough topic, school shootings, but I enjoyed the storyline and the characters.

This book is about human experimentation in infants that are up for adoption in the Arizona -- New Mexico region. A brain implant to make kids very smart is done. However, when the kids hit age 15 and puberty, they all go crazy and shoot up their school and kill themselves. One boy, Juan, whose mother is a doctor, survives and a CT scan of his brain shows high tech stuff. Large money investors of "the project" try to kill Juan and others attempting to get to the root of who did this and why. A GOOD READ!

This was intense and interesting, but the authors never gave a reason why the teens all acted out the same way and why it all happened at the same time. Also, the only way the ending works is if Coffey plans on a sequel, otherwise it just doesn't leave the reader with closure. A fast-paced, exciting read with a touch of romance, albeit feeling incomplete and a bit far-fetched; I'll probably give Coffey another try.

A husband and wife writing team who are excellent. Orphaned babies had nanotechnology implanted in their heads for superior intelligence. Now this technology is going awire and they are committing school shootings. Excellent!

I was surprised... I started reading and found it so compelling I couldn't stop! A good story even if it was sorta obvious how it would end up. Please search the room! Duh!

Very entertaining!

Another not-so-stellar read from my stash from the annual library book sale. Had potential but was amateurish
