This is the first book in a 1990 series of 4 books. I read them a long time ago but am re-reading for an article I'm writing. I'm surprised at how good this book is! It has the elements of the classic girls' series books. Cassie Jones' whole name is Cassandra Best Jones but she adopted the name Cassandra Best, wealthy American socialite, to impress her British debutante friend Alexandra Bennett.

On a trip to England to attend Alexandra's debutante ball, Cassie discovers that Alexandra has been kidnapped. This book has secret passageways, fabulous historic jewels, and desperate criminals.

I recommend this series!
