I love Yotsuba! It remains one of my all-time favorite feel-good manga series, which makes it rather embarrassing to admit that apparently... the last time I picked up a volume of it was in 2013?? Well anyway, I'm back on it, and my library has bought a good batch more volumes since I last checked, hooray! Quite understandably, I had forgotten some of the secondary characters since I last read this series 9 years ago, but otherwise I was able to pick it right back up again and dive right into Yotsuba's gentle, silly, sweet world. In this volume Yotuba attends a cultural festival and the costumes, settings, and festival scenes were rendered with the high level of gorgeous detail this series always delivers.

What other manga will teach you about Japanese culture while making you laugh so hard you almost pee yourself? Yotsuba&!, Vol. 08 is so chock full of silliness that your cheeks will hurt from smiling so much. If this series doesn't warm your heart and fill you with joy, you must be missing a soul.

Time and time again I've mentioned how wonderful the dynamic is between Yotsuba and her father. I wish I could be a part of their family, but I'd happily settle for being their neighbor. The "Typhoon" chapter has one of the funniest and most heartwarming moments in the series thus far.

I'm already feeling the withdrawals with only three volumes left to go. I wish there were more volumes because I can't imagine getting through the day without my Yotsuba fix. She's been really helping me get through some tough times. Looks like I'll just need to restart the series all over and experience the fun all over again.

Yotsuba&!, Vol. 08
Chapter 49: Yotsuba & Opposites!
Chapter 50: Yotsuba & The Restaurant!
Chapter 51: Yotsuba & The Cultural Festival!
Chapter 52: Yotsuba & The Typhoon!
Chapter 53: Yotsuba & Watching the House!
Chapter 54: Yotsuba & The Festival!
Chapter 55: Yotsuba & Acorns!

I enjoyed this, but nothing hit me in a new or fresh way. A lot of people gave it more stars. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't had to read in dribs and drabs. To find out, I will read the next one like my life depends on it!

Though I should have done this at book 6 or 7, I will do it now. A halfway point review since volume 12 is so far the last one.

This series is absolutely wonderful, the art is top-notch, especially in regards of the background. You can just imagine yourself there, together with all the characters and enjoying your time with them.

So far the volumes have been set in the Summer, though we are now more in Fall and going to Winter. I really like that it is a slow speed, that we don't hurry through the seasons or months, but that all kinds of events are mentioned, festivals are done, beaches are visited and more. Now it is Fall, the leaves are falling, Yotsuba is searching for acorns, clothes are being bought for colder times.

And then we have the characters. I can say, that it took a bit of time to get used to Yotsuba, but around volume 2 or 3 I start to really like her, she is a wonderful kid, who really enjoys life. And not only the big things, no no, also the small things, like acorns or milk or newspapers. She is so enthusiastic about everything, you can't help but cheer for her, and also laugh at her antics.

Her dad, well he is a bit silly and at first I thought he wouldn't be a too good of a dad, but he is quite strict at times. When Yotsuba does something not good (running away, going outside, bicycling without anyone) he will give her a fitting punishment or tell her it is bad. He also learns her various things and takes care of her so well.

The 3 sisters and their mother bring a lot of fun, but also help with Yotsuba and take care of her.

Jumbo, the big friend of Yotsuba and her dad, is a really weird, sometimes childish, but also very kind and very generous and will do anything for Yotsuba.

Then we get to the only character so far that I absolutely hate and wish wasn't around. Yanda. He is obnoxious, childish, annoying and in overall I think he is just a bully and rude. He just walks into the house, while Yotsuba clearly doesn't want it (even when she was alone, which I think is strange of him to do so, because at that time she didn't knew him). Every time he is in the story I just want to skip over the parts. I can't imagine ever liking him, unless something major happens.

But all in all, it is a wonderful manga, and I would really recommend it. Be prepared to laugh a lot, cheer for various characters and more.

This volume was just as wholesome and great as the rest of the volumes. I love the parts with the festivals the best! I always love Azuma’s work because he adds festivals and school festivals in his work a lot!

Typhoon is coming in this manga. However, Yotsuba enjoy the typhoon. I did it same playing. This story reminds me of the olden days...

This is a review of the entire series!

Yotsuba is an adventurous, green-haired and wide-eyed five-year-old girl moving into a new town with her father. Her energy is off the charts and her curiosity about anything and everything is never satisfied. The daily adventures of Yotsuba and her neighbors turned best pals tackle every subject imaginable from learning to ride bikes, selling flowers, racing at the beach and finding ways to battle against environmental pollution; all the while driving each other crazy and learning to love each others company.

I've been dealing with a lot of stress and depression in my personal life lately, so I thought it would be a nice change of pace to read something funny, cute and wholesome for a change. I went into this series expecting it to be corny or cringeworthy compared to what I'm used to, but was surprised by how genuinely charming, hilarious and heartwarming it is. You can tell the author has a lot of experience being a parent as he captures all the specific mannerisms, speech patterns and chaotic behavior of curious little kids better than most stories I've ever watched or read. Sometimes she's funny and sweet, sometimes she's bratty and annoying, sometimes she's an incoherent babbler that fascinates everyone around her with her insanely creative ideas and the unpredictably wacky shenanigans she constantly cooks up.

All the characters are lovable, each chapter is a fun self-contained story and it has the perfect balance of comedy, adventure and wholesome familial bonding. Yotsuba is a wonderful character. Her mischievous curiosity and her chaotic positive energy are dangerously infectious, both to the reader and to everyone's lives she becomes a part of. I definitely felt cheered up every time I read a chapter from this series and was surprised to find myself constantly smiling and laughing. I think it's impossible to read this manga and not feel uplifted in one way or another.

This a really adorable series. There is no big plot line to it, it's just a series of short little episodes. I just wish that I had Yotsuba's enthusiasm and excitement. I remember getting that excited about everyday things. It's shame I grew out of it, but reading about Yotsuba makes me want to re-examine things and find the joy in them.

Do you ever read something that fills you with such a burning passion to live? That's what I feel like whenever I get to reading the misadventures of Yotsuba. This series is sort of like a salve to the cynicism of modern media, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in need of a smile.

2023: So many of these panels would make excellent memes or phone wallpapers.
I think Yotsuba's dad is also one of the best fictional dads out there.

2025: Yotsuba slapping a random man's butt is still one of the funniest, little-kid-accurate antics in any book out there nyahahaha

yotsuba is the most precious smol child ever, and yet she is so unhinged. such a stellar series i love it soooo much.

honestly if you like anya from spyxfamily then you’ll def like yotsuba too. the only difference is that this is a more slice-of-life story.

I can't get enough of Yotsuba! While this is shelved in the children's section, it's equally entertaining for any adult who's ever known a small child.

Quick thoughts: The art is really shining as the series goes along, particularly in the festival scenes in this volume. The typhoon chapter was my favorite here.
