Still Pickled After All These Years: A Pickles Book

Rate this book
""This is the second fan letter I have written in my whole life. The other one was to Hopalong Cassidy, when I had a great crush on him at about six years old. But I did want to let you know how very much both my husband and I have enjoyed Pickles from the very first strip. Would you please consider putting a collection together in book form?""-Lois F. in Nevada As its loyal fans will gladly tell you, Pickles has been a zinger-filled, laugh-out-loud gem since its debut in 1990. Since then, it has steadily climbed in popularity, and today appears in over 400 newspapers worldwide. Still Pickled After All These Years collects strips from this sweet intergenerational comic that alternates point of view between an older married couple, a 30-something married couple, and their son. The strip centers on Earl and Opal Pickles, who have been married over 50 years but inject plenty of spunk and insight into everything they do. Whether they're taking a wry but sympathetic glance at their divorced daughter, Sylvia, laughing at their faithful but feckless canine, Roscoe, marveling at their dictatorial feline, Muffin, or just commenting on the little things in life, Earl and Opal's good-natured wit and dry humor is brilliantly on target. Pickles is about growing old and keeping your sense of humor but never forgetting what it's like to be a child. The strip's inaugural AMP collection, Still Pickled After All These Years , encapsulates the importance of staying close to those who bring you the most joy and reminds everyone about the incalculable value of the unconditional love of pets, family, and friends.

LOVED it!

Earl Pickles and I are twins. We’ve settled into our Silver Years with no shortage of fun!

Used to think fun was hanging out and yapping. Now my better half (a much more adventurous Opal) keeps a running to-do list for me, bless her. So, much like Earl, this once-rolling stone now tries only to keep keeping up with her and not gather moss.

Born an Aspie, every day once I needed rewards. Now I’m a doer of to-do’s!

But the carrots on the stick have shrivelled, like I have. At least I keep smiling!

Cause I have my scatterbrained fun.

Who wouldn’t try to have fun? With mainly clear skies on their health horizon at 75?

Earl and Opal’s skies seem sunny too.

They’ve been in the papers longer than I’ve been retired, and that’s long. We both love their ditzy life, and we both chuckle mightily at their septuagenarian misadventures, so much like our own.

You’ll have ‘em too one day, kids!

If you buy this book on Kindle, you’ll find it fits your android well, and you’ll find the dialogue balloons quite legible.

***

You know, Earl and Opal have now achieved immortality!

But we haven’t. And the clock keeps ticking.

And because of that every new bloom of life smells sweet to us -

For we now love Every Day of our fractured life -

So fulla our own foibles:

Just like Earl and Opal’s oddball kinda life!!

First one I’ve gotten from Crane.

Love it all. No complaints. I usually hate pickles. But I love these “Pickles”. Looking forward to my next book!

Still Pickled

I enjoy reading Pickles. It makes me laugh and brightens my day. I wish that all the cartoons would have been in color like in the Sunday funny papers.

Exactly what I wanted it to be. Shared many laughs with my wife, copied several to use in class.

Clever comic strip that I enjoy more in the paper than in a compilation. Fun to read, though.
