While expecting my first child (more years back than I care to count), I read my very first romance novel, and I've been in love with them ever since. I grew up in the ranch country of western Nebraska, and it was inevitable I’d eventually write lots of books about cowboys. I still live in Nebraska with my husband (who is not a cowboy), four married daughters and a whole slew of perfect grandchildren.
I'm a long-time member of RWA and RAH, my local chapter. I'm also one of the founders of Petticoats & Pistols, a popular blogsite for western romance. I love to cook, hang out at my lake cabin, and decorate birthday cakes for anyone who will let me.
A great romance with a lot of action and adventure. Set in a time where sweat shops could be deadly and society was in turmoil, Creed returns home from fighting for his country overseas only to discover the enemy has come to America's shores. He discovers the fight is in his own backyard when he meets Gina after she witnesses an act of sabotage. Great characters, and a plot that kept me engaged to the end.
Creed Sherman is ready to leave his mercenary soldier job for the US Government and settle down in California. But, when he gets home he finds his childhood sweetheart married to another. While he is deciding what to do, he is approached for another government job. Then he helps in the rescue of Italian immigrant, Gina Briganti, and many others from a factory fire. Since Gina knows who started the fire her life is in danger. This story includes interesting historical facts concerning the immigrants and the threats on the life of President McKinley by anarchists (something that comes to pass later in real life). Not as good as the story about Creed’s partner Jeb, but definitely an author I will read more from.
Creed Sherman proves to be a brave, daring hero with more than just words. The reconciliation with his family is even more daring. I can't imagine how awful it would be to find your ex hooked up with your father. In this story is an overlooked portrait of the struggling working class in early American cities.
This is an interesting story, with some good themes. It got me to do a little digging into the history involved. It was interesting to have it set in Los Angeles and its environs at the end of the 19th century.
Decent Harlequin historical. I liked Creed and Gina, but some of the secondary characters left a lot to be desired like Alex. He was just so darned annoying.
