In seven smash "Rogue Warrior" bestsellers, Richard Marcinko and John Weisman have delivered nonstop action and explosive thrills. Now the Rogue Warrior writes a new set of rules for the shadowy world of Black Ops.... Dangerous times require dangerous men. And there isn't a man alive more deadly than the Rogue Warrior. Captain Richard "NMN" Marcinko must uncover the truth behind recent attempts to destabilize Azerbaijan, the tiny former Soviet republic that holds the key to the oil-rich Caspian Sea. A pipeline to the West is planned, and both Russia and Iran want control. But there are hidden players, including billionaire Steve Sarkesian; just how he ties in with the Russkies and Arabs is unclear, but treachery is afoot to choke off America's black gold.
Enlisting his elite SEALs, Marcinko races to the heart of the Middle East, doing what he does best -- breaking rules and cracking heads until the only thing left standing is justice.
Richard Marcinko is the author of the Rogue Warrior thrillers and is a living, breathing hero honored with the silver star and four bronze stars for valor, along with two Navy Commendation medals and other honors. After serving in Vietnam, he went on to start and command SEAL Team 6, the Navy's anti-terrorist group, and Red Cell, a high-level anti-terrorist unit. Marcinko keeps his hand in the field as the president of a private international security company and now lives in Warrington, Virginia.
1) Marcinko is the toughest SEAL to walk the Earth - Check
2) He's older, makes mistakes, but still slays a horde of bad guys before kicking back with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire - Check
3) He goes into extreme detail about how to plan and execute an Op - Check multiple times
I've read Marcinko's bio and a few other of the RW books. All of which were pretty good. This one, not so much. Still a decent read for a long trip where you are strapped into the web seats of a C-130.
After rescuing hostages from an oil rig in Azerbaijan, Marcinko finds himself in even deeper trouble as he gets involved with those behind the hostage taking.
Not bad. Very similar to the other books in the series.
I got this book out of the library because it looked like something my aspiring Navy SEAL son might enjoy along with me. I wasn't sure whether to be amused or horrified by the characters, but ended up reading quite a few more in the series, and turning my son onto them as well.
I have read all of the Marcinko books and "Echo Platoon" is more of the same. Straight up "he-man porn". If you like playing the Modern Warfare-style video games you will enjoy this book. Warning: This book is full of the nastiest language you can imagine. Fun reading if you have testicles!
#8 in the Rogue Warrior series by author Richard Marcinko with John Weisman.
Special Warfare - fiction - The Rogue Warrior tackles Steve Sarkesian, billionaire "expeditor", and Russian and Iranian terrorists seeking to control the oil supply from Azerbaijan.
Captain Marcinko delivers another fantastic, energy packed, exciting story about the actions of American Warriors defending the United States of America.
