This book explains the rationale for the centrality of the Torah, the development of its text, its liturgical usage and development, the rationale for the rituals around the Torah in the liturgical year, the various traditional rationales for aliyot, and the key interpreters and interpretations of the Torah. Kolatch favors the traditional and the conservative/Modern Orthodox readings but goes into differences between Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox respectfully.
