The book talks about what a soul is, what life is like on the other side, how and why souls incarnate on earth, the various levels of heaven, the nature of God, and how people deal with death.
It's an extremely well-written book without any trace of the stuffiness one finds in many books of this nature. As with many other book reviews I have done I will just summarize some of what I thought were the most interesting points of the book.
First, on the other side, there is the Pink Place. It's basically a hospital to help souls adjust to their transference from the world of the living to heaven; it also is there to help those who had physically handicapped bodies adjust, and also to help those who had committed suicide.
This is one of the points that seems to agree with Sylvia Browne's description of heaven, that there is a hospital whose purpose is to help souls make the transition, and to give special help to those who had very difficult transitions such as in suicide.
She also describes a place where music is performed on the other side, with many types of music being done.
She also writes that the type of heaven we expect is pretty much the type of heaven we end up in, including those who believe they are going to hell; they encounter their own version of hell on the other side. She also says there are several levels of heaven.
She says reincarnation does occur, but only for those souls up through the fourth level of heaven; after that there is no need to reincarnate. She also describes the various levels of souls.
She says the soul enters the body at birth.
Abortion, she says, can cause a soul to have to wait to be born into that particular woman, although some abortions do not involve a soul at all since no soul had been scheduled, so to speak, for that fetus.
She writes that the conditions some people are born into are basically situations that will help them learn the lessons they need to learn in this lifetime, and that this is all planned out before the soul incarnates in a physical body.
She says life on the other side involves continued learning, but can also involve sports activities, relationships, and for some even a type of occupation.
She says limbo is a place of souls who choose not to move on and such souls are the ones who tend to come through in ouija boards and automatic writing and are not necessarily doing this is a positive manner.
She also writes about the Hall of Records on the other side, which most writers refer to.
Books on spirituality are all based on the author's perspective and the sharing of their own experiences. In that way, I felt this book was really middle of the road material for me personally. While I did resonate with some of the core concepts this book discussed, the author's vision of heaven is what totally threw me off course. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around what she was presenting of the after-life...and her concepts of what heaven and hell are. But, I came into this reading with an open mind and realized this is one person's perspective based on their experiences and truth. I just didn't feel particularly enlightened or inspired by anything presented here.
What I did really like about this book, however, was the author's sheer courage to share her heart, her experiences, and her visions with the world! For this, I gave it 3 stars, even though I personally did not learn much from this book, and just couldn't get behind some of the material presented. I do find it an interesting spiritual read overall, and certainly wouldn't tell someone not to read it. There are some definite enlightening and comforting concepts at work in this book for someone who is new to the concepts of reincarnation, psychics, etc. In that way, I would recommend it for those wanting to expand their spirituality reading. However, for myself, I'm on the fence on whether or not I want to read anymore work from this author in the future.
this is not your typical read for fun book, it is however enlightening, powerful, eyeopening, to a world you may or may not be ready for. You have to and i stress have to come forth with a very open mind and then be ready to view yourself in a different light, but a "light" nonetheless. We are all here on this planet earth for a reason, read it and you may just find out what yours is, or if nothing else you may view your "soul" more intimately and do some real connecting with life, energy, death, and God....dare to dive on in....i promise it won't hurt.
I picked up this book simply curious about this woman's views on what souls really are, where they go after death and even where they are before birth? Her ideas were enlightening as she claims to have been to and seen the other side, along with her gift to see and communicate with souls in this realm. This book introduced into my mind the idea of multiple reincarnations for each soul, and although not everything she wrote was agreeable the novel truly opened up my mind beyond this physical realm we live in and base our lives off of, to view all the other aspects that life really is.
This book is a little "out there" but, like any other truth, I found some concepts useful and comforting. I am in a constant state of soul-searching so I am attracted to books that help me feel connected to the beyond. I do not believe in everything that was said but I thought that I would pass it on just in case you do.
Very interesting concepts of death, dying, afterlife, Heaven and more. Although I don't necessarily subscribe to all Bodine's concepts and interpretations, this book does provide many possibilities. It is well written, easy to understand, well organized, and intriguing. I would highly suggest that anyone with questions or wanting to research such topics definitely give this book a try.
It takes a leap of faith to allow what Bodine is saying. She talks about her trips to heaven, her interactions with many, many souls, and her conversations with the dying and those being born. But if you can accept that, it makes sense.Either way, it is a fairly quick read whether you want to see what she has to say or if you are ready to believe.
I know this seems way off the wall, but if you do read the book, and get it, we can talk about it all day long.......but if you read the book and you DON'T really understand why I might like it, don't get too worked up over it....
I love learning about topics like this. It was interesting to hear about the authors experience about life on earth, what occurs during death and how life is after death. It deals with our souls and how each of these stages is handled. It was a great read.
This book help me to understand or I should say, it gave me some insight if you believe in this kind of thing, what happens to some of our love ones when they pass on. A very well written book with a amazing feel of peace. Very easy read.
This book was one of my favorite reads EVER. It changed my life and mindset completely. I sat in Starbucks and finished it in 3 hours. I was so amazed at the contents of the book and what j learned, I feel so much better about death and life now after reading it!
Very intriguing read! Insightful explanations about things we experience here on Earth during our lives and how they are tied to the spiritual world. A lot of what the author stated concurs with beliefs I've held for awhile.
This book is one of the best books I have ever read, it opened my eyes about many things, I have aways believed life after death but it helped me clear things up to me. It is full of good quotes and it gives me hope, its sort of comforting I'd say.
If everything that Echo believes and sees were true, I think life would be so much easier, so much less stress. I think we would all be able to relax and enjoy life so much more.
My favorite Echo Bodine book. I loved everything it said! I want to re-read this one many times to always remember the principles. I love that she talks about love and the other side. FANTASTIC!
Brilliant book... A book for everybody who has ever lost somebody and wonders about what happens to the soul after the physical self passes on. A must read...
Great book that has potential to completely shift your view of death (and life), and why we go through the things we do (often karma) while here on Earth-school.
Faith? Grief? Loss of a loved one pressurizes the heart and emotion with grief. The vast void that seems to suck us into aching loneliness is not easily managed. Curiosity of what, where, how . . . Some choose to explore and this is a great read in small bits or all at once to help channel all the thoughts, questions, aches of the heart. It may strengthen convictions or blow them apart depending on the reader’s inner perspective, and open-mindedness. Certainly, the author offers a vent for grief and wonder as the reader gropes through the journey grief thrusts each of us on eventually. I go back and reread to find that I have had layers of grief through time and the readings speak differently through each layer. I would never have come to the concept of layers of heaven on my own. . .
For those who know me, I am very open to the fact that the vast unknown of death and the afterlife is the center of significant fear for me. While part of me will forever question things, this book left me feeling more comfortable about death and why we are here in the first place. The central idea is that we continue to come back to “school” (earth) to learn a lesson we didn’t get quite right in our previous life and our soul is aware of why we are here, while our conscious mind may not be aware. While I did not grow up in a heavily religious setting, the mentioning of God throughout the book did not bring any feelings of shame or judgement, but did encourage readers to navigate their religious journey in their own terms, which was very appreciated.
I would recommend to anyone who has similar fears or questions the afterlife and death.

Despite the 3 star rating I did very much enjoy reading this book. I ended up spending a day reading a majority of it. The only problems was the assertion that our souls agreed to very thing we experience and saying the reason a person experienced an incestous relationship was because they were lovers in the past life. While I understand that spirituality books will always come from the personal experience of the authors certain things about Bodine’s description didn’t resonate and in the case of the incest relations or the belief we agree to all the experienced we have on Earth it felt outright off. Could be due to the experiences I have, but I truly couldn’t get behind that. Aside from that I did find myself very immersed in Bodine’s writing and perspective. Whether I agreed with them or not it certainly kept me reading.
Echo Bodine found out as a young girl that she had psychic powers to speak to the dead. This book follows this discovery and how she has used it to help those moving to the next realm and those they left behind. I agree with much of what he said. I do feel there are psychics in the world. Her thoughts on limbo, the detention for heaven waiting to pull souls into a bad place doesn’t fly with me. I do believe hell is an absence of grace and love, so each of us have our own personal hell. I have had my deceased father tell me things in my dreams and has kept me safe. Take what you want from this book. It gives people peace with the death and life of past loved ones.
The more I grew spiritually, the more I came to know God in a whole different light.
This book is fabulous. It helps in shedding a light on life, death and afterlife. Echo Bodine soothes the soul with compassion and shares her vast knowledge in a simple language. She encourages her reader to take responsibility for their live(s), and make the most out of every experience. Highly recommended if one is afraid or confused about life and death, and seeking to understand much more than what was taught.
