About the author

Michel Benoît (a nom de plume) is a religious scolar and novelist. After obtaining a PhD in Pharmacology, he entered the Benedictine order as an unordained monk at the abbey of Saint Benoît sur Loire (from which he took his pen name), remaining a monk for twenty-two years. Because of his ideological non-conformity, he eventually left the Catholic Church and decided to devote himself to research and writing. His first book, Prisoner of God, an autobiographical account of his lfe in the monastery, became an international bestseller when it was published in 1992. This was followed by two religious essays, a travel book based on a trip to India, and then the thriller The Thirteenth Apostle, which although fiction, is claimed to be derived from his lifetime's research on the life of Jesus.

A raíz del éxito del “Codigo DaVinci” me imagino a todos los editores desempolvando los viejos manuscritos que con temática religiosa les hayan estado enviando distintos escritores y publicándolos a prisa y corriendo para apuntarse al carro. En algunos casos, como en el del propio “Código DaVinci” el resultado es mediocre tirando a malo, con patadas a los libros de historia en casi cada una de las páginas y lo único bueno que se puede decir de estos libros es que a algunas personas se les habrá entreabierto una puerta a la posibilidad de plantearse que la iglesia no tiene la verdad, ni es la verdad, ni dice la verdad y mucho menos, sabe la verdad sobre la naturaleza de Dios y lo que es mas triste, de Jesús de Nazaret, ese hombre que supuestamente sembró la semilla de la cual esa iglesia dice haber nacido. Pero el libro que nos ocupa, “El Apóstol Número 13” no es uno de esos libros.

“El Apóstol Número 13” es un buen libro, un thriller religioso, bien llevado, que nos mantiene interesados en la lectura desde la primera página, escrito por un antiguo monje experto en los orígenes del cristianismo y que, por lo tanto, sabe de lo que habla aunque eso no quite el hecho de que se le vaya la pinza de vez en cuando (me encanta la explicación que da a uno de los rituales de admisión en la orden templaria, jeje, muy bueno).

Sin olvidar que este libro es una novela no un libro de teología, nos plantea muchos temas que no dejan de tener visos de realidad. El principal, la manipulación que la figura de Jesús de Nazaret sufrió desde el principio, desde sus apóstoles, convirtiéndolo en Cristo-Dios, a raíz de una supuesta resurrección. Imaginaros que eso no hubiera sido así, que Jesús de Nazaret hubiera sido un profeta, un hombre inspirado por Dios, que hubiera muerto en la cruz y no hubiera resucitado, un hombre extraordinario, pero nada mas, en ese caso todas religiones cristianas no tendrían razón de ser, a no ser que se hubiera hecho desde el principio lo que deberían haber hecho, basar esas religiones en el mensaje y no en la persona, no en una supuesta resurrección que lo convirtió en Dios. Si el mensaje de Jesús de Nazaret es lo que realmente importara a estas religiones, no habría ningún problema, pero todos sabemos que las religiones tienen en gran medida su razón de existir basado en el miedo que tiene mucha gente a la muerte y en la esperanza de que después de esta vida terrenal hay algo más, mejor y mas justo, representada en esa resurrección, en esa supuesta victoria de Cristo-Dios a la muerte.

La historia que nos cuenta Michel Benoît es la de un supuesto decimotercer apóstol que se enfrenta a los otros once (si excluimos a Judas, al cual en el libro Pedro le da pasaporte) para que no divinicen a Jesús de Nazaret. Este decimotercer apóstol sabe que Jesús no resucitó y sabe donde descansan sus restos mortales. Por supuesto Pedro y compañía no quieren ni oír hablar de ello porque tienen otros planes mucho más ambiciosos. De esa historia se salta a la era actual donde los descendientes de Pedro, Pablo y demás, el Vaticano, trata por todos los medios que no se les acabe el chollo, a costa de lo que sea. Un thriller.

La novela va dando saltos en los siglos. Aparecen los esenios, los nazareos, los templarios, hasta el mismísimo Mahoma, pero lo mejor de la historia es ver como las tres religiones monoteístas del mundo (la judía, la cristiana y la musulmana) se unen por sus propios motivos para que esta supuesta verdad no salga a la luz.

En resumen, una estupenda novela de misterio, con un algo de novela histórica, con otro poco de teología (pero poco, tranquilos, que no nos sueltan el discursito) y que recomiendo leer ahora que es el tiempo, el verano, de las novelitas ligeritas.

O livro mais antigo da minha estante, à espera desde 2009!!
Não consegui gostar desta história. Os saltos temporais são muito abruptos e e história no passado pouco acrescenta ao desenvolvimento da intriga. Um livro que parece pretender colar-se ao thriller histórico tipo Código Da Vinci, mas que peca pela falta de acção e pela falta de clareza no desenrolar da história. Chato e confuso...
Não recomendo.

Θρησκευτικό θρίλερ όπου εμπλέκονται αναζητητές μοναχοί, καθολικοί επίσκοποι και Πάπες με παραθρησκευτικές οργανώσεις-πράκτορες της Μοσάντ κ της Φατάχ(ένιωσα λίγο Κάρι Μάθισον , για το Θεό δεν έχετε δει ακόμα homeland?τρεχάτε...)
Η ζωή των πρώτων Αποστόλων αμφισβητείται μαζί με τη θεϊκή φύση του Ιησού Χριστού σε μία περιπετειώδη αναζήτηση των αποδείξεων για την ύπαρξη 13ου Αποστόλου και της επιστολής του.

Το Βατικανό με την καμαρούλα του, οι μυστικές υπηρεσίες Ισραήλ και Μωαμεθανών και δύο πιστοί αναζητητές καλόγεροι είναι οι ήρωες του έργου ενώ παράλληλα στη σύγχρονη εποχή αναπτύσσεται η δράση των αποστολών και των πρώτων εκκλησιών μετά τη σταύρωση.
Έντονα διεισδυτικό βιβλίο με αρκετές αναφορές πραγματικών γεγονότων θα ικανοποιήσει τον απαιτητικό αναγνώστη του είδους και θα του αφήσει αρκετά ερωτηματικά μετά το τέλος του...

"The Thirteenth Apostle" tells the story of a Catholic monk, Father Nil, who is dangerously close to discovering a secret that lies at the heart of the world's three Abrahamic religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The author weaves in historical truths with his own fictional imaginings in the style of "The Da Vinci Code," and I suspect fans of that book will greatly enjoy this one.

I found some of the writing to be a bit clunky, with odd turns of phrase and a few uncommon words whose meanings were not apparent from the context. This might be a result of poor translation from the original French, but once you make peace with the book's style, the language shouldn't be much of a stumbling block for enjoying the book.

For me, the greater sin is the fundamental premise of the book. For centuries, the divinity of Christ has been questioned, with a number of accompanying "proofs." The fact is such proofs are not enough to dissuade the faithful; there is nothing that can confirm or deny that Jesus was the son of God aside from personal convictions.

I just can't conceive of a scenario where any archaeological evidence could be so iron-clad as to the mortality of Jesus as to have catastrophic repercussions for society, prompting the church to go to extreme lengths to protect its secret. Even if a skeleton were found, it's not as though researchers could do a DNA test to prove it was the Jesus of the Bible. I just don't believe the first-hand account from a "13th apostle," even one refuting Jesus' divinity, would be any danger to the church.

Até que achei piada a esta história, principalmente pela teoria de poder ter havido um 13º apóstolo e o que isso poderia significar. Por muita informação que exista, por muita crença que se tenha, é natural que algumas coisas se tenham perdido com o tempo e a ideia deste livro não e pareceu assim tão rebuscada.
É certamente uma maneira de nos fazer pensar e de nos ocupar o tempo.

Para mim, o problema foi mesmo na parte do "thriller". Claro que tem de ser um enredo rápido, para que as coisas pareçam mesmo necessárias mas pessoalmente - e sendo o autor especialista em teologia ou estudos da Bíblia?- antes preferia que isto fosse mais uma ficção histórica do que um thriller. Não achei nada convincente como algumas coisas se desenrolaram e depois o final foi uma desilusão; se o autor se tivesse mantido na sua esfera de conhecimento, talvez o resultado pudesse ser um pouco mais interessante.

Eine bemerkenswert gut aufgebaute fundierte Erzählung. Es braucht Zeit sich auf die Art einzulassen aber am Ende lässt sie einen nicht mehr los.
Trotz anfänglichen Zweifeln wurde ich eines besseren belehrt.
Diese Erzählung kratzt an der Oberfläche der tief in der Geschichte von Religion verborgen geheimnissvollen Schätze.

Много приятно изненадана съм от тази книга, може би защото дълбоко в себе си изобщо не вярвах, че един човек на вярата ще може да напише подобен трилър. Разбирате ли, в мен си е залегнало онова усещане, че свещениците и монасите са си същите, каквито са били и години назад във времето. Въпреки че не изпитвам никакви затруднения да ги видя като модерни хора, когато ги срещам на улицата, или дори гледам сериали на тази тематика. В книгите обаче първото ми задължително мнение е свързано с аскетизъм и прочие подобни неща.
Затова ми беше любопитно изследването на брат Нил, засягащо Новия завет. Въпреки че не разбрах защо би било толкова страшно заветът на 13-тия апостол да излезе наяве, предвид всички неща, които вече знаем, душата ми на историк беше доста зарадвана от темата. Все пак, малко или много, религията е една доста обширна материя за изследване и вече в няколко книги с подобна тематика не са губили интереса ми. Отново научих доста интересни факти. Аз обичам да трупам знания в тези области, защото Църквата играе особена роля в историята, а историята е моята дисциплина.
Героите в книгата не ме впечатлиха особено като персонажи. Действията им също на места бяха малко... банални, въпреки че това не е правилната дума. Книгата стои някак незавършена, въпреки че не би трябвало да ми изглежда така.
Но все пак това е книга (трилър даже!), писана от "бивш" монах, така че съм склонна да не обръщам внимание на слабите страни в разказа. Мишел Беноа е още и специалист по църковна история, което пък ми помага да приемам доста по-сериозно изследването му. Хич даже не съжалявам за случайния си избор в "Читалнята", както и за това, че я задържах за малко по-дълго, за да я прочета.

Me ha encantado. Una de esas lecturas que nos apasionan, tanto por temática, como por desarrollo de la trama. El autor fue anteriormente monje benedictino, y abandonó la iglesia por "desavenencias" ideológicas.., y se nota, vaya si se nota. Le zumba a todo; las miserias de la iglesia (tanto actual como en su origen, donde vemos unos apóstoles sedientos de poder, muy alejados de su imagen digamos "natural"), las intrigas vaticanas y sus bajezas; al islam y al judaísmo, quienes entran en un mismo saco junto al cristianismo, y que tratan por todos los medios, incluso unidos entre si, de que un secreto relacionado con los orígenes del monoteísmo no salga a la luz, porque uniría a las tres religiones en torno a una creencia que acabaría con los poderes de quienes se nombran a si mismos portadores de una fe que en realidad está sustentada sobre una mentira. Pasado y presente (muy Alcant) que va desde la celebración de la última cena, al día de hoy, donde vamos viendo como la palabra de Jesús es inventada, tergiversada y adaptada según el interés de cada cual, tratando de callar, del modo que sea, a aquel que ande cerca de la pista definitiva que ponga fin a esos intereses. Muy recomendable.

A book of two halves. The first half I found extremely turgid and difficult to read. The French to English translation has a stumbling clunkiness to it and whilst I understood the effect the author was trying to achieve in fluctuating the chapters between modern day and Jesus' time, I felt it had an adverse affect on the flow. I almost gave up on it after about a third.

However, I'm glad that I stuck with it as the book does take more of a plot-ride in the second half and held my interest much more, even though the plot itself has no twists, turns or real surprises. It just flowed better. The subject matter is clearly well-known to the author given his previous life as a monk, and the story, albeit fictitious, is entirely plausible calling into question the divinity of Jesus, by way of the existence of a thirteenth apostle.

It is Dan Brown-esque like Angels and Demons but where Dan Brown (whether you love or hate his work) takes you on a white-water ride of action and suspense, this barely trickles along.

Verdict: It was okay.

The basic concept of this book - challenging the very basis of the three main religions - is one that greatly appeals to me as an atheist. The idea that somewhere there may be proof that Jesus was just a charismatic guy, whose body was removed and buried, and not some God who 'rose from the dead' is more than plausible; from that perspective, then, I enjoyed reading this book.

However, the book overall does disappoint. The writing can be clunky in places, and, though at 360 pages, it seems quite a long book, it is also quite slow-moving at times. I liked the process of investigation and deciphering that the lead character goes through, but it all seems a little too quick and easy at times. Meanwhile, the ending seems a little drawn out, I would have preferred more on the process of investigation. It feels like the author got bored and just wanted to wrap up the book as quickly as possible.

Như mọi cuốn sách khai thác những bí mật hội thánh Công giáo khác, Bí ẩn tông đồ thứ 13 cũng tự phủ lên mình tấm áo choàng huyền hoặc đầy hấp dẫn. Cho đến khi giở tấm vải phủ đó qua 480 trang giấy, người ta mới hốt hoảng nhận ra mình đã bị lừa.

Được gắn mác International Bestseller, lạ lùng thay, cuốn sách để lại cực kỳ ít thông tin trên internet nếu so sánh với Mật mã Da Vinci hay Nhật ký bí mật của Chúa. Cuốn sách cũng chưa bao giờ xuất hiện rầm rộ như là một cái gai trong mắt Vatican dù nó công nhiên tấn công không mệt mỏi đế chế đầy rẫy bí mật và tranh cãi này.


Sau Mật mã Da Vinci và Thiên thần và Ác quỷ, tôi đã thề đoạn tuyệt với những cuốn sách đẻ “trứng phục sinh”, là công trình nghiên cứu lượm nhặt trong kinh viện hai thiên niên kỷ của loài người, để chắp vá từng đoạn văn tự khó hiểu, một lỗ hổng thời gian trong biên niên sử nào đó hoặc một sự lơ đễnh ngờ nghệch của tiền nhân. Trong đó, nhà văn đặt vấn đề về thiên tính của Jesus trong sự hiện diện của một tông đồ chưa bao giờ được chính thức nhắc đến. Sâu xa hơn, người đọc có thể nhìn nhận ra một ý tưởng về ngộ đạo và tự vấn lại bản thân mình trong tư cách Đền thờ của Thượng đế.

Một cảnh tượng đối đầu thật hoành tráng luôn thích hợp cho những anh hùng truy lùng sự thật. Không ở đâu, sự thật được Michel khéo léo trang điểm và hứa hẹn với độc giả hơn là một bối cảnh kỳ cục như vậy.

Vì ngay lập tức sau đó, người ta nhận ra sự thật mà cha Nil ra sức tìm kiếm cũng như Michel nỗ lực nuôi nấng cũng chẳng mang lại ích lợi gì hay đe doạ nổi ai. Nói cách khác chẳng ai nên sợ hãi nó và chẳng ai nên giấu giếm nó.

Một bức thư viết tay trên giấy da từ thế kỷ thứ nhất, một vài chỗ lộn xộn trong Kinh thánh, vài phiến đá kì lạ thời Charlemagne mà nhà văn tiện tay vứt vào tác phẩm của mình chẳng bao giờ biện minh được sự xuất hiện của một tông đồ thứ mười ba. Đến cả khi người ta có tìm được một bộ xương bị đóng đinh ở đâu đó trong sa mạc gần Jordan, thì ai dám chắc đó là hài cốt của Con Người – Jesus xứ Nazareth?

Bằng một câu chuyện hời hợt được đẩy nhanh hết tốc lực với sự ranh mãnh trẻ con của những nhân vật, Michel đẩy bạn đọc vào mê cung – nơi họ phải loay hoay với ý định của nhà văn.

Kết cục, cha Nil cũng nhận ra cuộc lên đồng tìm kiếm sự thật của mình cũng trống rỗng không khác gì bệ đá đền thờ Jerusalem. Sau tất cả những xung đột bùng cháy của cảm xúc và hận thù, những con người trong cuốn sách dường như mệt mỏi với sự thật mà họ tự đặt ra nhiệm vụ phải tìm kiếm. Lạ lùng thay, mọi sự trở lại vị trí bắt đầu.

Người ta có được quyền hỏi ý nghĩa của tất cả cảm xúc, niềm tin và trá nguỵ kia là gì không? Tại điểm kết thúc, vị tông đồ thứ 13 của Michel Benoit không cứu nổi một câu chuyện rời rạc, ngây ngô và kém logic.

Trong bối cảnh Vatican đang cố gắng thoát ly chủ nghĩa hình thức, nỗ lực trừu tượng hoá kinh điển và mong muốn hiểu ngôn ngữ của Thiên Chúa thông qua sự hiện diện của khoa học thì Michel Benoit và những nhà văn đồng hướng tỏ ra là yêu mến không thể tách rời với kinh viện và tín điều. Không phải một lần, họ liên tục tấn công vào nhưng “truyền thống”* lâu đời, lên gân kết tội lừa dối, hám quyền, tha hoá và cuối cùng là đe doạ trưng ra ánh sáng tất cả sự thật.

Chẳng có sự thật nào được trưng ra.

Các câu chuyện kiểu này đều có mẫu số chung như một trailer điện ảnh Hollywood: một sự thật kinh hoàng, những âm mưu che đậy, những nỗ lực truy tầm sự thật, sự giác ngộ sau cùng và mọi thứ quay về vạch xuất phát. Nó dư sự hấp dẫn để giải trí trong chốc lát nhưng tuyệt nhiên chả để lại điều gì để suy ngẫm.

Tại sao phải tiếp tục băn khoăn và làm quá lên về một vị Chúa trong hình hài con người? Chúng ta sẽ mất niềm tin vào bản thiện tiên thiên nếu ai đó chứng minh rằng Jesus là người phàm, đã chết và không phục sinh ư? Chúng ta dùng sự hướng thiện, phẩm cách làm người để tống tiền Thượng đế, buộc Người phải trả giá cho sự tốt đẹp của chúng ta?

Níu kéo thứ tinh thần trong những mẫu truyện ly kỳ kiểu Dan Brown hay Michel Benoit cũng giết chết sự suy tư vào bên trong và đập tan tinh thần tự do.

Không ai dạy nhà văn viết gì vào tác phẩm của ông ta nhưng sẽ thật tuyệt nếu Michel bỏ qua hết những chiêu trò vặt của Vatican, Fatah, Mossad và Hội Pie V để đặt cha Nil vào sa mạc ngay từ đầu, để cho suy tư của ông về Jesus đồng hiện với những trang sử phóng tác về Hội thánh sơ khởi.

Không ai hiểu rõ Đức Chúa hơn chính mình. Để diễn tả điều này, Anatole France đã dùng Lucifer để nói**: “Nhưng loài người không phải thần phục Ialdabaoth*** nữa thì có quan trọng gì nếu tinh thần Ialdabaoth còn ở trong họ, nếu họ giống hệt y: ghen ghét, hung bạo, gây gổ, ham hố, thù nghịch với các nghệ thuật và cái đẹp… Chúng ta đã chiến bại bởi vì chúng ta không hiểu rằng, chiến thắng là tinh thần và trong chúng ta và chỉ ở trong chúng ta thôi, cần phải tấn công và tiêu diệt Ialdabaoth”.

Love this. This book managed to differentiate itself from other titles from the same theme and have it's own identity. The way Benoit using the different types of gospels as premises to relate, develop and redevelop the plot is admirable to me that non christian could enjoy it. Like a lecturer teaching and giving comparison; so the student could think critically.

I believed when Benoit doing his research; which probably in taken place during his 22 years spent as a priest in catholic monastery, he stumbled upon something that should be left hidden. Therefore doing a fiction is a good way indirectly tell the world without compromising anybody or anything. It's up to the reader's to catch up the hidden meaning interwoven between fact and fiction.

Argumento llama la atención. Me parece una novela bien narrada. No obstante, la temática no genera tanto interés en mi persona. Opino que presenta un buen puente entre historia y ficción, pero habría que analizar con mayor detalles. No soy fanático de obras de casos religiosos a manera de thrillers.

No puedo evitarlo, me gusta el género desde que leí Codigo Da Vinci, pero este libro me parece mejor documentado y me llama la atención que haya sido escrito por alguien que fue un monje. No debemos olvidar que solo es un thriller, pero es interesante tomar detalles de personas de las que se habla, como los últimos papas.

Je classerai ce livre dans la famille des thrillers ésotériques (à la mode depuis le fameux Da vInci Code)

L'écriture est fluide, les chapitres courts (2 , 3 ou 4 pages), et alternent dialogues et narration. Rien d'extraordinaire au niveau du style, très classique, mais qui nous permet de mieux nous concentrer sur l'intrigue.

Deux histoires en parallèle sont racontées:

La 1ere se passe de nos jours, et met en scène le père Nil,séminariste dans une abbaye et spécialiste de l'exégèse , l'explication des évangiles. Tout commence le jour où on informe Nil de la mort de son ami et mentor au sein de l'abbaye, le père Andréï , spécialiste des langues mortes. En allant identifier le corps, Nil découvre dans la main d'Andreî un morceau de papier sur lequel il est écrit :

A partir de ces quelques mots, qui vont entrainer le père Nil dans les coulisses du Vatican, nous allons découvrir ce secret que le père Andréî avait découvert et pour lequel il a été tué : un secret remettant en cause les fondements même de l'Eglise.

La Seconde histoire, commence le jour du dernier repas de Jésus en compagnie de ses apôtres, et retrace le chemin dans l'espace et le temps de ce fameux secret, lié à l'existence d'un treizième apôtre, si dangereux pour l'Eglise

Au fil des pages, ces histoires, parallèles au départ, nous éclairent l'une sur l'autre et nous tiennent en haleine, jusqu'à se rejoindre

J'ai beaucoup aimé ce livre; d'autant plus que le fond rejoint ce que je pense de l'Eglise catholique .

A noter que Michel Benoit est un ancien moine et est théologien et docteur en biologie. Il a quitté les Ordres en 1984, l'Eglise désapprouvant ses recherches sur la vie et la personnalité du Christ. Il s'y est depuis consacré

Après avoir lu ‘La danse du mal’ (Je viens de réaliser que je n’ai pas publié ma revue de ce livre, chose que je vais rectifier immédiatement), je m’étais immédiatement convaincu qu’il me fallait lire autre chose de cet auteur. ‘Le secret du treizième apôtre’ ne m’a certainement pas déçu et de fait, c’est même le contraire qui s’est produit. Je sais maintenant que je vais lire d’autres œuvres de cet auteur. Pour ce livre en question, l’auteur livre un savant mélange d’histoire biblique avec de l’improvisation très probable. La beauté de l’affaire, c’est qu’à la fin du livre, il n’hésite surtout pas à élaborer sur les fondations de ses recherches et son départ vers ce qui est probable. Tout chercheur à proprement parler, qui veut ouvrir ses horizons sur du plus concret que ce qu’on n’arrête pas de nous régurgiter sans conviction a l’église catholique, se doit de lire ce livre.

After reading ‘La danse du mal’ (NB : I don’t know if the English version exists, I could not locate it on the net) I just realized that I did not publish my review of this book, which I’ll remedy to immediately), I was convinced that I needed to read more from this author. ‘Le secret du treizième apôtre’ (NB: I believe the English version exists: The thirteenth apostle!) most certainly did not disappoint me. It was more so the opposite and I know now that I will read more works from this author. Concerning this book itself, the author delivers a truly deeply studied mix of biblical history with very probable improvisation. The heart of the matter resides in the end of the book, where the author provides clear support for the foundation of his research as much as what he deems probable. For all true searchers willing to open avenues of though-provoking concrete evidence above the unchallenging recurring speeches we get at Catholic Church, must read this book.

This is a really interesting, challenging and thought provoking story.
Father Nil is now a hermit, but was originally a monk who got caught up in the research of a potential thirteenth apostle. Due to his persistence and his collaboration with a fellow monk, Father Nil is called to the Vatican to help a former friend in his research into the link between the Gregorian Chant and the Psalms.
Father Andrei, the man who helped Father Nil in the monastery, went to Rome to report on his own findings. He left the Holy City in a hurry, but met his death before reaching the safety of the monastery. When in Rome, Father Nil follows the clues left by Andrei and finds himself in danger of also meeting his maker.
The Roman Catholic Church and the clergy surrounding the Papacy are portrayed in a rather bad light. Some of the monsignors and cardinals are shown to be greedy, power hungry thugs, who will stop at nothing to prevent any detrimental research from being published. They'd like nothing better than to keep the status quo and have the believers follow their lead like sheep, asking no questions and not challenging the established authority.
The author doesn't state definitely one way or another if a thirteenth apostle existed. He lets the reader follow the clues and decide for him/her self.
Despite this being a work of fiction, for me it still raises the questions of Could there have been a thirteenth apostle? and What really happened to Jesus after his crucifixion, death and resurrection?

Non avevo mai letto questo libro prima d'ora - ma va'? - né guardato la serie omonima e pensavo pure sinceramente che mai avrei avuto interesse in nessuna delle due cose, eppure eccoci qua. L'ho trovato per caso in biblioteca e ho deciso di dargli una chance: devo ammettere di non esserne fin troppo pentita.
Sebbene sia agnostica e quindi per niente in contatto con qualunque cosa riguardi fede e chiesa, l'ho trovata una lettura molto interessante. L'autore è stato capace di descrivere in modo scorrevole fatti "realmente accaduti" mischiandoli alla parte romanzata della storia in un modo che ha saputo prendermi molto più di quanto mi aspettassi.
Ho particolarmente apprezzato le note finali, inoltre, perché avevo proprio bisogno che tutti i miei dubbi riguardo la veridicità degli avvenimenti venisse fugata - altrimenti sarei stata capace di mettermi a fare ricerche da me * LMFAO *. Essendo poco informata a riguardo - non mi è mai davvero interessato... - non avevo idea di tutte queste "speculazioni" riguardo l'esistenza di un tredicesimo apostolo e non sapevo dunque se credere che fossero veritiere o semplicemente frutto della fantasia dell'autore. Ecco perché mi ha molto soddisfatta vedere che alla fine ha deciso di mettere le cose in chiaro anche per chi come me è molto ignorante in materia.

There were more things wrong than right with this book, and that's why I give it my lowest rating yet on goodreads: 2 stars.
The book didn't start that bad, offering a decent hook early on, with the assassination of a monk on a train. But, right after the focal point of the story was unveiled, it became clear that the point of controversy and which sets the events of the book in motion is somewhat ridiculous. That monk was killed because he was on the track of the long lost written testimony of a 13th Apostle that points to the existence of a long lost tomb where the remains of Jesus rest. The problem with this is that if the remains of Jesus exist somewhere, it is because he didn't resuscitate and he can't be considered a deity. He is just a mortal. And thus the corner stone of Christianity is destroyed.
However, the book never presents anything that could consist in irrefutable proof of the 13th apostle's existence or of Jesus' mortality. In fact, it doesn't present anything that could easily be proved or disproved. Any of the "problematic" documents could easily be argued to not be authentic or just plain wrong.
All-in-all the basis for the story is shaky, at best.

Tarde mas en leerlo de lo que esperaba, pero fue una lectura que realmente disfrute. Me gustaron mucho los personajes y la forma en la que se ve el presente y el pasado. Lo que también me gusto mucho del libro es que los capítulos son bastante cortos y eso a mi me ayuda a la hora de leer,
La historia es buena y tiene muy buenos personajes, aunque me gusto mucho todos los misterios que maneja esta novela no me sorprendieron tanto como pensaba al inicio, es una gran novela que toca la religión desde un punto mas histórico.
Aunque no es necesario tener mucho conocimiento sobre la religión si recomiendo que se lea un poco sobre los doce apóstoles y un poco de la ultima cena hasta que la recapacitaron de Jesús, mas que nada para entender algunas cosas de la historia, pero realmente no es necesario es solo una recomendación. :)

In a way, “The 13th Apostle” is treading on Dan Brown territory, with an arcane secret that could topple Christianity. There’s a couple of things missing from it that is often part of Dan Brown’s formulaic books. With only a couple of brief episodes, there’s no roller coaster ride of action. The other thing missing, thank God, is Brown’s complete inability to write believable dialogue. This book also seems to have more historical backup to its premise than just some speculation. The heroes and villains have a bit more depth and complexity as well. I understood why Catholic conservative forces in the book were out to repress the epistle of the 13th apostle, but I never quite understood or was convinced of the deadly concerns of Mossad or Hamas against it. Overall I enjoyed it, with its fine balance between iconoclasm and reverence. I would say it was more interesting than thrilling.

Thriller sobre la existencia del décimo tercer apóstol , nombrado por los otros 11 tras la muerte de Judas. Silenciado en los textos sagrados la unión de las tres religiones monoteístas para impedir que se desvelen los secretos que harían tambalearse al mundo que hoy conocemos y que se ha forjado durante más de 2000 años.
Destaca el poder De la Iglesia que se mantiene a cualquier precio y la corrupción en sus más altos niveles . Poder que se basa en el pilar de la divinificación de Jesús en Cristo-Dios. La veracidad demostrable de escritos que demuestran que la tumba de Jesús existe y que por tanto harían tambalear los pilares de la cristiandad fueron redactados por el decimotercer apóstol
Y han sido ocultados por la iglesia a través de los siglos . De nuevo …a cualquier precio .

Me ha parecido una temática interesante y muy bien tramada. En ocasiones difícil de seguir por ser espesa y requerir demasiada concentración , pero bien articulada con una gran base de investigación

Patiko. Pagal tematiką ir siužetą lyginama su “Da Vinčio kodu”. Mano požiūriu, "kodui" neprilygsta, bet tikrai gera.
Tema – dabartyje atrandami slapti dokumentai ir paliečiama “uždraustoji tema”: tryliktojo apaštalo egzistavimas Jėzaus gyvenime ir jo liudijimas, kuris griauna dabartines bažnyčios tiesas. Kalbama apie krikščionybės atsiradimo istoriją, jos paslaptis ir jų saugojimą iki šių dienų. Romane persipina įvairūs laikai, vyksta sąmokslai ir nusikaltimai.

Con una documentación muy minuciosa y un estilo narrativo claro y sencillo, el apóstol número 13, nos presenta una historia nada original, pero que cumple con su misión de entretener.

Lo que más me ha gustado es la forma en la que está escrito, lleno de capítulos cortos, ya que agiliza la lectura. Sin embargo, la historia, aunque muy bien narrada, es solo una más de las conspiraciones de ficción en el que siempre aparecen los tres elementos indispensables: un secreto peligrosísimo, la iglesia dispuesta a ocultarlo a cualquier precio y uno o varios asesinos.

En general, está muy bien, ya que te logra más o menos enganchar hasta el previsible final abierto. Sin embargo es solo uno más de un mercado sobresaturado de estas historias de conspiraciones eclesiásticas.

Una novela que entretiene y que contiene datos históricos interesantes, pero, en la reseña de la solapa, se le compara con "El Nombre de la Rosa" 🫤

Aunque ciertamente el argumento central es la investigación de un monje erudito tras el asesinato de otro monje que, al parecer, había descubierto un documento incómodo/ prohibido para la Iglesia; comparar la novela de Benoît con la de Eco me resulta exagerado, porque la primera no alcanza la genialidad narrativa de la segunda; tampoco su personaje principal, el padre Nil, muestra la astucia ni la inteligencia del entrañable Guillermo de Baskerville.

Si lees "El Apóstol Número 13", disfrútala como lo que es: una novela ligera de ficción histórica.

# EL APÓSTOL NÚMERO 13 - MICHEL BENOÎT ***** Thriller historico - religióso .. donde se pone en duda la divinidad de Jesús ya que escrita en dos tiempos actual (Papado de J Pablo II con un cardenal muy conservador "Catzinger" que recuerda a alguien la verdad ) y tiempo de las últimas horas de Jesús da un punto de vista nada descabellado de lo que pudo haber pasado . En el tiempo actual ...existirá de verdad una sociedad secreta "San pio V " que véle por la divinidad de Jesús ... Me ha entusiasmado hacia tiempo que un Thriller historico - religióso no me atrapaba tanto ... Super recomendable 5/5

A principios de la década de 2000 se publicaba una de las novelas de más éxito del siglo XXI, El código Da Vinci. A raíz de este superventas, las editoriales decidieron desempolvar todos los manuscritos que tenían guardados y que trabajasen bajo la misma premisa: intrigas vaticanas y sociedades secretas que manejan el mundo.

En este caso, esta obra no es original en ningún aspecto. Un secreto oculto desde hace siglos por una sociedad secreta Vaticana amenaza con salir a la luz y destruir la base de la fe católica. La trama avanza con alguna que otra laguna y sin demasiado interés, dado que resulta en extremo previsible. Una novela ligera y que se olvida tan rápidamente como se lee.

I must confess - I have never read Dan Brown ok. So I can't critique what I have never read but I have read this. And it is very readable, it wasn't over scholarly or over complicated but it wasn't the best thriller I'd read either. It was what I expected a thriller sent in and around the secret sects of the Catholic Church to be like, but add the working together of Mossad and Hamas and the Catholic Church that was a new one on me. The Christian history bit made sense to me yet it did feel a bit led by the nose. Not the best I've read but not the worst either.

Trong sách, chi tiết bảng khắc Germigny, cha Nil giải thích mỗi dòng có 24 ký tự, nhưng ở dòng thứ 3 có 25 ký tự, không hiểu là do lỗi đánh máy hay thế nào. Song chi tiết đó khiến khi đọc truyện cứ thấy lấn cấn.
