Very dry and factual. Most of the book is only focused on case after case. He gives little details besides the animal that infected the patient and it they died or infected others. I found myself skimming most of the book. Outdated and also very catastrophic thinking. His conclusions on the plague are over exaggerated and he seems to be obsessed with the seriousness of this disease.
