Den danske forfatter Jørn Riel (f. 1931) debuterede med romantrilogien "Mine fædres hus" (1970-72), men havde inden da rejst rundt i det meste af verden, blandt andet i forbindelse med forskellige erhverv. Jørn Riel var en del af Lauge Koch-ekspeditionenen (1951-53) og var efterfølgende udstationeret i Grønland i 10 år. Imellem 1964-71 arbejdede han hernæst som FN-observatør, før han omlagde sin karrierevej og blev forfatter. Riel har både udgivet store romaner såvel som små novellesamlinger, og i 2010 blev Jørn Riel tildelt Det Danske Akademis Store Pris, der udover hædersbevisningen består af 300.000 kroner.

Inizia così Safari Artico. Quella che potrebbe sembrare una deprimente situazione di solitudine ha fatto scattare in me l'impulso di acquistare questo libro. Per qualcuno la solitudine è sinonimo di desolazione, di abbandono, di emarginazione. Tuttavia lo splendido incipit del danese Jørn Riel mi ha fatto provare sensazioni diverse. Indipendenza. Autonomia. Possibilità. Opportunità. Potere. Arbitrio. Libertà.

Attraverso una serie di racconti ambientati nel nord-est della Groenlandia si intrecciano le vite di una piccola comunità di cacciatori danesi. Troviamo il sognatore Anton e il suo desiderio di diventare un eroe dei ghiacci. Il filosofo Herbert col suo amico, il gallo Alexander. Il veterano Madsen, William il nero, il luogotenente Hansen, l'avventuriera lady Herta. Ed Emma, la vergine fredda, il racconto che più di tutti mi è piaciuto. Una batteria di personaggi che vivono situazioni esilaranti ed a volte surreali, donando tepore al quadro artico di ghiacci sconfinati attraverso i toni caldi dell'umanità genuina.

Riel è brillante e concreto, la sua prosa diretta e graffiante. Risultato? Ho immediatamente acquistato altri tre suoi volumi.

Safari Artico ("Arctic Safari" translated in english) begins like this. This depressing lonely situation triggered in me the impulse to buy this book. For many people, solitude is synonymous with desolation, abandonment, marginalization. However, the beautiful incipit of the danish Jørn Riel made me feel a different kind of emotions. Independence. Autonomy. Possibility. Opportunity. Power. Freedom.

Through a series of short novel set in eastern Greenland, the lives of a small community of danish hunters intersect. We find Anton the dreamer and his desire to become an ice hero. Herbert the philosopher with his friend Alexander (a rooster). Madsen the veteran. William the black, lieutenant Hansen, lady Herta the adventuress. And Emma, the cold virgin, the novel that I enjoyed the most. An array of characters that live hilarious and sometimes surreal situations, and contribute to starving the Arctic framework of boundless ice through the warm tones of genuine humanity.

Riel, with its direct and biting prose, is brilliant and concrete. Conclusion? I immediately bought three more Riel's books.

ambientati nella desolazione artica della groenlandia, i racconti di riel parlano di cacciatori solitari, del tempo dilatato e infinito, di vite estreme con una grazia e un'ironia sopraffine. si sorride molto osservando questa bislacca galleria di personaggi stralunati e le loro avventure hanno una componente buffa che stempera l'onnipresente senso di solitudine e di buio e gelo. divertente e delicato.

"Safari Artico" è un delizioso ritratto dei solitari cacciatori che fanno parte della comunità groenlandese nord-orientale. Ogni persona viene ritratta con i suoi difetti e le proprie piccole manie, ma mantenendo sempre un forte senso di umanità ed empatia. Veramente divertente è l'episodio finale che dona il titolo al libro, dove un ricca signora inglese con la passione della caccia, arriva sul territorio con l'idea di organizzare una battuta di caccia in grande stile. Lo stile è scorrevole, pieno di humore, ma anche capace di evocare i desolati scenari invernali del luogo, e la solitudine che attanaglia i suoi abitanti. Riel è stato per me una grande scoperta.

Je n'en étais plus sur, mais dès que j'ai relu le chapitre "la balle perdue" je me suis rappelé avoir déjà lu cet hilarant recueil d'aventures groenlandaises, aussi brutes et vraisemblablement que si elles vous étaient racontées par un authentique trappeur imbibé d'aquavit

“Safari Artico” è il libro di Jorn Real ambientato in Groenlandia.
Un libro che ci porta a viaggiare in luoghi lontani e inaccessibili. Invita a sognare per i suoi paesaggi. L’autore conosce molto bene questi luoghi poiché ha vissuto lì per molti anni. In “Safari Artico” sono contenute 7 storie ambientate in Groenlandia dove i personaggi sono gli stessi ma ogni racconto ne rappresenta uno analizzando lui e le sue avventure. La vita in questi luoghi non è facile ma l’autore riesce anche a sdrammatizzarne gli eventi. Un mondo dove regna la solitudine ma non quella deprimente , una solitudine invece che porta alla ricerca di opportunità. Unica lacuna è quella che il libro è troppo breve per immedesimarci fino in fondo , per assaporare i paesaggi e per una storia che avrebbe potuto catturare il lettore

Min far var medlem af Bogklubben Union og han havde vel de fleste af Jørgen Riels bøger stående på sine bogreoler. Og har læst Jørgen Riels bøger mange, mange gange da jeg var dreng. Og jeg nød dem og den underfundige humor, ofte med en morale, med hvilken Jørgen Riels skriver. Efter at have lyttet til denne lydbog, kan jeg konstatere, at i hvert fald denne stadig holder.

Den er indlæst i 1984 af Jørgen Weel med en nydelig diktion. Og lyden på optagelsen minder meget om den fra nogle af de gamle Disney film. Så, alt i alt blev jeg bragt direkte tilbage til en fjern fortid og det var dejligt.

Bonus info: Jørgen Weel var søn af Liva og Arne Weel.

Un safari arctique raconte des petites histoires de vie sur les chasseurs du Groenland durant la première moitié du 20ème siècle. On retrouve les mêmes personnages au sein de chaque histoire, qui est écrite avec beaucoup d’humour.
J’ai toujours un peu de mal avec les histoires courtes qui s’enchaine, mais le livre se lit quand même bien. J’aurais aimé que l’auteur nous explique un peu plus le rôle de ces chasseurs et la raison de leur présence au Groenland. Malgré tout, on comprend un peu leur mode de vie et leurs occupations au fur à mesure des histoires.
Ce livre était un bon moment, mais ne restera pas inoubliable.

Strašně miloučký povídky, i když nevím, jestli to není oxymorón když ty povídky jsou vesměs o lovcích, kteří se živí lovením roztomilých tuleňů a medvídků. No ale v mezích těhle možností roztomilí/éjsou. A taky vtipní/é.
Jenom to chce asi spíš číst na jeden zátah, protože ty postavy prostupují z povídky do povídky, tudíž mi to tak přijde o něco lepší.

A přebal, i když parádní (asi stejnej grafik, nebo je to teď nějaká móda, že jo Bernadetto), je dost matoucí - mladé, odvážné hrdinky se tam rozhodně nevyskytují narozdíl od starých a smrdutých podivínů.

Frammenti di vita artica conditi da un pizzico di humor (nell'ultimo racconto e la preparazione per "l'arrivo della signora" è meraviglioso!). Una vita che non è per tutti, ma che così narrata assume una certa attrattiva..una vita selvaggia, essenziale, ingenua per certi aspetti, dove la crudeltà è di altra natura e poco ha a che vedere con le meschinità umane..
..bello! ..sicuramente approfondirò il discorso!

Lettura piacevole e leggera. L'ambientazione è fondamentale per questa serie di racconti che parlano di solitudine. Il tono umoristico arricchisce di carattere ciascuna storia ed i suoi personaggi raggiungendo picchi di "piacevole delirio" come l'introduzione del personaggio di Emma. Le storie di ciascun cacciatore si intrecciano con rimandi tra un episodio e l'altro e scopriamo che nel deserto artico anche il più insignificante fatto può fare da miccia ad un'intera avventura.

Read the paper book. The Czech translation is exceptionally good - beautifully suited to the tough hunters in remote and harsh Greenland. Lovely stories - some sad, some funny, all heartwarming. A delightful read.

La série complète des racontars est à lire, et dans l'ordre de préférence, car les nouvelles font écho les unes aux autres.

Une société uniquement masculine de trappeurs sur les côtes du Groenland vit des aventures entre réel et onirique, le tout avec un humour décapant.

Le meilleur remède contre le désamour de la lecture. Comment peut-on résister à cela?
