The fiesty moppets painted by Yoshitomo Nara will make you want to give your kitty-kat an extra treat, plus pinch a stranger on the but locks. These are real reproductions of paintings of punker moppets. That's for sure.
in a funny-weird coincidence, Yoshitomo Nara wrote the dedication for this book on Nov. 12, 1 am Tokyo time, as i was literally being born on Nov. 11 in NY time …
anyway, i have had a profound fascination with Nara’s work for years, and it was equally delightful and unnerving to read through this book today
can’t wait for his solo exhibition at Hayward Gallery in june!
Listening to painfully loud punk rock music, eating and sleeping when he can (or feels like), Yoshitomo Nara is a part of a new wave of temporary Japanese art. His art is equally cute, and disturbing.
He's one of those artists you have to merely experience for yourself. He's truly one of a kind.
Again, a lovely keepsake. A comprehensive volume of Nara’s most influential work. A beautiful introduction to his captivating, enigmatic, unique, and strikingly distinctive style. strange art, disturbing undertones. Simultaneously adorable and somehow punk/countercultural.Eye-catching, and a great companion for any aspiring artist or illustrator seeking inspiration; or devotee of Japanese culture more broadly. Lovely as part of an arty tablescape centrepiece. You know me, a sucker for aesthetics.
Slash With a Knife is a collection of strange art by some Japanese weirdo, Yoshimoto Nara. The artist is obsessed with some creepy, big headed kids. I thought it was a bit of an oddity. If you're into strange art with disturbing undertones then this book is for you.
I don't really look at this book often. It's full of great drawings and imagery, but it's not really a book I look to for inspiration so much as "that's neat."
