India Grey was born in England, UK. A self-confessed romance junkie, she was just thirteen years old when she first sent away for the Mills & Boon Writers' Guidelines. She can still recall the thrill of getting the large brown envelope with its distinctive logo through the letterbox, and subsequently whiled away many a dull school-day staring out the window and dreaming of the perfect hero. She kept these guidelines with her for the next ten years, tucking them carefully inside the cover of each new diary in January, and beginning every list of New Year's resolutions with the words Start Novel. In the meantime she also gained a degree in English literature and language from Manchester University, and in a stroke of genius on the part of the Gods of romance, met her gorgeous future husband on the very last night of their three years there. The last fifteen years have been spent blissfully buried in domesticity, and heaps of pink washing generated by three small daughters, but she has never really stopped daydreaming about romance. She's just profoundly grateful to have finally got an excuse to do it legitimately! After meeting the bestselling novelist Penny Jordan, she returned to writing romance, and sold her first novel in September 2006. In 2009, her novel Mistress: Hired for the Billionaire's Pleasure won the Love Story of the Year by the Romantic Novelists' Association.

India Grey channels Anne Mather and unearths some other vintage tropes that really don't work well in a today's culture.

Trope #1
The hero is a businessman developer. The heroine is associated with a Greenpeace type of organization that doesn't want the hero to buy a certain Chateau and deface the landscape with his plans. The assumption from the hero - and the author from what I can tell - is that the Greenpeace people care more about old buildings and the landscape than they do about people. And the heroine comes to agree with this point of view.

Um. People have to live in a sustainable environment, no environment, no people. Just saying.

Trope #2
Adoption is something to be ashamed of. Really? In this day and age?

Trope #3
Anne Mather's favorite -

Heroine is 21 and a virgin. Hero spirits her away on his yacht so he can ram the deal for the chateau through without her agitating the Greenpeace people. He is not at all nice to her and I have no idea why she thought she was in love with him and wanted to give up her virginity to him. He had a cold, cruel, deliberative streak that really didn't match what he was trying to achieve. (Just buying a house - there was no threat to him at all from the Green folk) What's ironic is that the heroine inherited the house from her mother and by keeping her on his yacht, he was delaying the signing of the sales.

So lots of misunderstandings, a hero I couldn't warm up to, and a sweet heroine who I had to be happy for because she was happy. Wow. This was a vintage.

I almost didn’t finish this book, because it was pressing so many of my personal buttons: heroine is all juicy over hero, who is almost indifferent to her and uses her lustiness to humiliate her. Yeech. I read on, hoping there might eventually be some kind of satisfying equalization, but then it came in such a sudden, ridiculous form I just wanted to punch the book. On top of that, this is almost exactly the same plot as another book by Jo Goodman. It was kind of dumb when Goodman did it and in this short book, with no real effort made towards build-up of the revelation, was even dumber. Add in a snide, patronizing attitude towards environmentalists and the book was just a disaster for me. YMMV.

The sale of an old Cannes estate brought the h and H together. She was posing as an eco-warrior/real estate agent and he was the client buying her beloved grandmother’s house. The house where she spent her happiest times. He wanted to develop it. Not an auspicious start.

Their initial meeting was filled with animosity on her part and arrogance on his. To stop her from making a mess of his plans, he took her to his yacht and out to sea. They got to know each other in the biblical sense and he learned that she wasn’t what he thought she was. She learned about sexual attraction leading to fun times don’t always lead to love for both. She ran off and left him asleep on a beautiful beach.

After she signed the contract of sale on the house he learned who she really was. Under the pretense of returning some items he found in the old house, he visited her. He learned a lot about who he was while at her father’s house. And learned who his mother is. And the consequences of his actions with the h. He was heartbroken and had to break the h’s heart too. There was no other option.

Gawd! I almost bawled when he learned the truth and saw the extent that he would go to to protect her. My heart broke for him. And the h’s reaction, not knowing what the H assumed, it was equally heartbreaking.

India Grey wrote a doozy of a book that grabbed me and held me until the end. I even with their shortcomings, the h and H are wonderful and engaging. A great read!

I was absouately captivated by India Grey's The Italian's Captive Virgin.

Anna Delafield was such an interesting character, full of dreams, had such loving memories of her mother and grandmother, and of her family chateau in France,. The times spent at the chateau where some of the happeist of her life. That is where she once dreamed of someday being a bride and walking down the staircase and into the arms of her handsome "prince".

Well those dreams are about to come to an end with the sale of the chateau. Family secrets also threaten to destroy her spirit and life. Anna feels all is about to end at the hand of Italian Angelo Emiliari. Angelo is a very rich and powerful man who's interested in purchasing Anna's family chateau, a man who usually gets what he wants at any cost, a man who will charm and draw her into a web which has the power not only to destroy her home but Anna herself.

I found Angelo an interesting man, especially the secrets of his past and how he was always holding himself back, intrigued by Anna, drawn to her in such a way that she also had the power to cause him anguish and emotions he was not willing to face.
This is India's second book with Mills and Boon and oh what a wonderful, sensual and emotional read it was and in keeping with strong alpha and intriguing female characters.

Anna was interesting and had many facets to her character and I was absolutely charmed by her story. At times I was drawn to her and wanted to be her friend. I'm so happy she found the love of her life! Thanks you India Grey for such a moving romance, one I will long treasure.

It was a quick read and this is one of those stories I found myself liking despite the shortness of it. This is also the first work I read from this author and her writing style deserves praise.

There's Anna the heiress who couldn't let go of the chateau, and the past that's behind it, and Angelo who's set on buying it for his own "evil" purposes (or so Anna thought). It's like a game of tug-of-war and I read until the end to see who's gonna win.

The tension was palpable, I could just imagine how the characters looked like because the author provided vivid descriptions from time to time. The characters have depth because of their pasts and I liked how they developed. I also appreciated the time frame before they finally got together.

There was a lot of emotional moments, and the mystery really worked for me. There was a point where I was saying "huh it can't be", and because a lot of things were said and done (mostly hurtful), it seemed they'll never end up with each other at all.

The sex scenes were tame, not so explicit but romantic all the same. This is one of the few Harlequin novels I liked and I'll be watching out for this author's other works.

More like 4.5 stars. To 4 stars.

But I am a fan of this author.

The lust factor was high in this one. The heroine falls badly into lust with the hero.

She’s an environmental activist. Literally camping on open ground with hippies. There’s a story behind why she does it. He’s a builder.

There is some more stuff. Read and find out.

I will reread it some time.

It’s not got that comfort read vibe though.

They’re both vulnerable and scarred.

Aside from the heroine being a little too young, in my opinion, at the age of 21 for a sustained long-term relationship and being a virgin, I thought it was a cute story. There was kind of a twist at the end that made things interesting.

There was instant attraction that makes it worth following. Two characters begin with secrets that were even shrouded from the reader, and as it progresses, said secret slowly unfold as they travel together down the path. This novel certainly held satisfying elements that made it worth reading.
