Although erotica is an integral component of the stories, the major theme is that of murder, attempted murder and the aftermath. Sometimes it is the consequence of detailed premeditation and other times it is an immediate and visceral reaction. The sexual aspects generally serve as an enhancement to the overall plot.
The motives for the murders in the stories vary from simple greed to mental illness to revenge for sexual straying. In each case, the background context is well established and the author keeps the reader properly uninformed as long as possible. Even in the cases where the perpetrator is known early.
My favorite line in the book is by Mickey Spillane, “Why some women look naked with their clothes on is beyond me, but with Cheryl I finally figured it out.” With some of the best writing in the murder genre and some sexual spice thrown in, this book of short stories will grab and keep your attention. Once you start a story, it is difficult to stop until you reach the end.
