Surely we are in those days, when earthquakes, pestilence, famine, war, and false christs dot the glove. Thses are birth pains, Jesus said. They signal climactic changes in the history of man and the physical realm. The planet is quivering under the pressures brought to bear eons ago.
THE 3RD VOLUME IN THE ‘ESSAYS IN APOCALYPSE’ SERIES
William T. James wrote in the Introduction to this 1994 book, “Skeptics of the sort described in Peter 3:4 hold … grand accomplishments of mankind up before the eyes of a humanistic world and proclaim them the proof that any…. doomsday predictions are foolishness accepted only by the lunatic fringe of religious society. Man is in control, they haughtily boast… mankind will eventually master every problem it now faces or will ever face… The Bible, they mockingly assert, if irrelevant. Really? [This book] is intended to examine this matter of just how relevant God’s Holy Word is to this day in which we live… Authors within [this book] examine in depth the often explosive, sometimes deadly issues and events of our time on this volatile planet, prayerfully considering just how near we are to that hour which will catapult billions of earth’s inhabitants into the darkest time of human history.” (Pg. 11-12, 18)
Bob Anderson observes, “recently… the practice of setting dates for Christ’s return by otherwise fundamental, conservative Christian teachers has become almost fashionable. Even more upsetting, perhaps, is the number of Christians who have fallen prey to these false prognosticators. We have already witnessed several failed attempts at date setting during the late eighties and early nineties by Christian ministers. Probably the most notable… was the failed prophecy of Edgar Whisenant, author of … ‘88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be in 1988.’ … A more recent ‘failed prophecy’ occurred on the Trinity Broadcasting Network… Pastor John Hinkle proclaimed that God had told him that on June 9, 1994, ‘All evil will be ripped from the earth.’ … Another … prophecy that has proved false is Harold Camping… [who] proclaimed that the end of the world would occur between September 15 and 23. ‘When September 6, 1994 arrives, no one else can become saved. The end has come.’” (Pg. 33-35)
Nevertheless, he asks, “Is Russia the Magog of Ezekiel 38 and 39? Almost certainly. Is Russia, during our present generation, shaping up along the lines prophesied by the great prophet of God?... Hal Lindsey… presents some quite interesting forecasts … Considering the rapid succession of earth-shaking events have occurred in the recent past, e.g., the dissolution of the USSR; the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the re-unification of Germany; the swift thrust of Saddam Hussein into Kuwait; the reforming of the Old Roman Empire into the European Union; and the formation of a World Trade Organization that will undoubtedly … present conflict in the matter of national sovereignty, who is to say that Mr. Lindsey’s forecast will not become reality in the very near future?” (Pg. 51-53)
Dave Breese asks, “Who has protected Israel? From a human point of view, Israel’s protection has been America’s military power… the United States has surely been Israel’s only genuine friend in the world…. Nevertheless, the indication is that Israel, no longer confident in the mentorship of America, seeks another alliance to vouchsafe its survival. By that time, the emergent power of the world is quite obviously Europe and the receding and distant power of America appears to be hardly as dependable as what Europe might be able to furnish…. What would be the advantage to Europe and to Israel of a mutual alliance? The advantage to Israel is obvious… Remember, there are one billion followers of Islam in North Africa and the Middle East while only four million populate Israel…. Europe may well move an army into the State of Israel … Israel, then, can reasonably be expected to be confident in the backing of a new and powerful ally.” (Pg. 90-91)
John Barela points out ‘advantages’ of a New World Order: “To prevent prison overcrowding, a tamper-proof microchip transponder will be attached to the wrist of offenders… By eliminating cash… the drug trade would collapse … With skin-implanted microchips containing homing devices… satellites could track kidnap victims anywhere in the world… all this is so feasible that it is frightening. A massive amount of power in the wrong hands should be a serious concern of every citizen.” (Pg. 125)
David F. Webber argues, “It was no coincidence that the World Council of Churches was founded in 1948, the same year that Israel became a nation. The intentions of the World Council of Churches was to socialize the church, featuring a watered-down social gospel, and to ultimately amalgamate all religions and denominations into a one-world ecclesiastical organization… The ultimate world government under this plan, will have a political arm and a religious arm. The WCC plans to be in control of the ecclesiastical or religious arm.” (Pg. 163)
Don S. McAlvany asserts, “America in the mid-1990s is declining as rapidly as did Germany in the mid-1930s, or Rome as it was approaching its terminal stages… America is now plunging down the slippery slope to collapse… we are in a state of moral collapse… That the family has disintegrated in American is a gross understatement…” (Pg. 179-180) Later, he adds, “in my opinion, the new Clinton crime control package is not really about fighting crime or real criminals at all. I believe it is about controlling the people… It is about disarming honest, law-abiding citizens…” (Pg. 201-202)
Chuck Missler states, “The eastern mystical religions have always been antithetical to God and to His revealed plan for mankind… New Age thinking is in perfect harmony with the end-time prophecies of a one-world global society under the leadership of one man, and the concurrent one-world religion that accompanies his rise to power. That is why, when we decided we would no longer impose our system of spiritual values on our children, Satan was more than happy to impose his.” (Pg. 271-272)
J.R. Church says of the Masonic Lodge, “This teaching… is revealed only to members of this secret society who reach the upper echelons of its power structure. The average member knows nothing of their real secret doctrine. This secret society, one of many which evolved from the Knights Templar, virtually controls the political power structure of every country in the world.” (Pg. 275-276) He continues, “If the Antichrist comes from a family of European monarchs---and personally, I am inclined to believe he will---he could rise from the ranks of the European-based International Banking Cartel. He could be guiding the trilateral nations and their partners to establish a New World Order… and then step back to foreclose on these three richest nations [U.S., Japan, and Great Britain] by collapsing their colossal stock market… How could he do it? By instituting his prophetic ‘mark of the beast.’” (Pg. 280)
Dave Breese predicts, “From the European complex… will emerge this princely, capable man who will be able to convince the people of Europe that he is their human savoir, their great leader for the days to come… who will draw together Europe’s many divergencies and guarantee a future that includes global influence… the Antichrist will present himself to the world from … a united Europe… he will move on to the place where finally he is the political master of earth. He will even make a covenant with the people of Israel… The breaking of that covenant will institute the Great Tribulation…” (Pg. 310)
This book is clearly focused on the situation in the mid-90s; but it may still interest some evangelicals studying prophecy.
This book is heretical and shameful. It is full of false prophecies and wrong doctrine. The many authors of Earth's Final Days find it their obligation to stir readers to fear through delusion, rather than to understanding through truth.
The problem is not only with what the book says, but the juvenile way their false message is presented. The writers repeatedly build entire arguments off non- or extra-Biblical assumptions.
Near the end, the most celebrated of the book's authors, William T. James, demonstrates its ever-present recklessness when he says, "The essays in this book tell the disturbing truth about this, the most violence-filled of the post-antediluvian world." In case Mr. James's vocabulary is exceeding his knowledge, he should know that "-diluvian" refers to Noah's flood. Therefore, "antediluvian" means before Noah's flood, and "postdiluvian" refers to the time afterwards. However, there is no such word as "post-antediluvian" which would mean (in theory) "the time after the time before the flood."
