An examination of the events surrounding the sinking of a Japanese passenger-cargo ship in the last days of WWII and the repercussions that the event caused for the next forty years. Dingman (history, USC) documents the court martial that followed the sinking, the elaborate negotiations between the US, Japanese, and Chinese governments over the Awa maru (she sank in Chinese territorial waters), and the eventual salvaging of the ship. I liked it for the most part. But I also felt there was a ton on the Japanese-American Relations and very little on the sinking of the Awa Maru. But good solid research.
