Nicky Moey was born in 1964 and spent his early childhood flying kites, playing marbles, cathing spiders and keeping aquarium fish. He became interested in reading at the age of fourteen, when by chance he visited the Singapore National Library and came upon the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle classic, The Hound of Baskervilles. He began writing stories at nineteen and had his first collection od short stories,Let's Play Games, published in 1986. The Singapore Police comissioned him to dramatise some of their cases, which were published in 1987 in the book, 999: True Cases from the CID. This was followed in 1988 by another collection of fiction stories, Sing a Song of Suspense.

The former student of Raffles Institution, he majored in Physics at the National University of Singapore and for a year worked as a feature writer in Shusse, a magazine publishing house.
