Tight White Cotton
Thirteen girls relate their filthy experiences with spanking fanatic Percy Ottershawm, from his headmaster's daughter to the author herself. From 1950 to 2000, his life was dedicated to getting his girlfriends across his knee, pulling down their tight white cotton panties and spanking their bare bottoms. Otherwise, he is polite, considerate, and every bit the gentlemen, always willing to indulge the girls' own fantasies, from wetting their panties in the street to being tarred and feathered.

Penny Birch, Tight White Cotton (Nexus, 2000)
It's amazing what you can find at your library's website sometimes...
I'd just gotten my library card for Cleveland Public Library out of hock (I had a lost DVD fine dating back to 2007 I'd never got round to paying because I used the county's library system instead) and was cruising around their ebook lending site, plugging in random titles from my Amazon wishlist as guinea pigs to test the link between the library, Adobe Digital Editions, and Kobo. And what was the first book that actually got a hit? Nexus spanking porn! Purely in the interests of testing the tech, of course, I borrowed it, downloaded it, got it synced to the ereader, and went to town. I wish I could say the first part of that sentence was meant sarcastically, but spanking porn has never really been my gig. Worse off, the book's written in memoir format, and I loathe memoirs. Still, “Ms. Birch” does at least manage to attach a bit of humor to her subject, if often at the cost of such trivialities as continuity.
The book centers around the perverse pleasures of one Percy Ottershaw, whom we first meet in British public school (where floggings are, of course, the in thing, or at least in every novel I've ever read about British public school) and then follow at various points along his life as a wine merchant with a penchant for the spanking, caning, and otherwise reddening of the backsides of nubile young things. Yes, that's the entire plot. One bit of interest: each of the chapters is narrated by a different woman acquainted with Percy, which at least puts a bit of a fresh spin on things, and Birch does have enough artistry to avoid the worst of the repetition, but when it comes right down to it, this is still vertical-market stuff; it's not going to titillate you unless you're a spanker-wanker. If you're not, you can safely give this one a miss. **

I read through the stories in this volume without being intrigued overall.
I think I enjoyed reading Penny Birch's "Tie and Tease" or" In for a Penny" more so than this title, precisely because the scenes in T&T were so over the top.
The encounters described here are quotidian, by comparison, and thus predictable, after the first couple of stories: "Girl has rude thoughts, can't help herself, and ends up getting what she desires/deserves." Pretty straightforward, no role reversals, no outlandish situations, and hardly any humor at all. (#9 "Proper in Public" & #10 "Consequences" are the exceptions.)
The common thread uniting the stories of this volume is Percy Ottershaw: In the beginning he's barely a teenager at school, and each successive story is told from the point of view of the girls, then the women -and sometimes girls again- who fall under his spell (they tend to end up 'nodding dumbly' in his presence), up to the last segment where Percy and his guest "Penny" review his past exploits on the occasion of his 65th birthay.
Although Percy acts as a catalyst in each of these encounters, transforming the girl's/woman's 'desires' to suit his 'needs', there is not much that changes in Percy himself, from youth to maturity. His tastes remain constant, as he explains in the final story. When Penny asks him which girl was the 'rudest' Percy has no answer...It's the common denominator of "tight white cotton" knickers that matters most to him, more than any particular encounter or conquest.

The subject won't be suitable to some tastes but it has the usual spanking and a lot of humour, we follow a young Percy Ottershaw, from a "dirty school boy" to a rather "dirty old man" but one can't help liking the character despite, or perhaps because of his kinks. An enjoyable read and hopefully there will be more of Percy in future books.

really not my thing at all. whatever, part of a spiral, hope it gets better or I may just drop out.
