"Collecting the 8-issue miniseries spinning out of 52, featuring the adventures of Animal Man, Starfire, Adam Strange, the mysterious new character Forerunner and more! Can they prevent San Diego from being wiped out by the enigmatic Healers?"--Publishers website, viewed August 14, 2008.
Writer Adam Beechen is the author of several comic books, including Robin and Justice League Unlimited . Adam also writes for tv on such shows as Teen Titans, The Batman and is the story editor on HiHi Puffy Ami Yumi for Cartoon Network.
Beechen takes interesting characters who were very well used in 52 and makes them entirely dull thanks to an over-stretched adventure that should have been half the length.
Pretty cool story. I'm a sucker for cosmic superhero stuff, so this was right up my alley. Each issue is divided into two different ongoing stories, and I felt the Starfire, Adam Strange, Animal Man story was tighter than the Forerunner one. However, the Forerunner story WAS interesting, just not as well told or drawn.
I liked this because it introduced me to a bunch of heroes and villains I didn't know anything about, I kind of like the sci-fi/cosmic thing too. The little boy totally in love with Starfire was pretty funny, but not as funny as Forerunner deciding the hunky warrior guy was now her sex slave and his trying to resist her. I liked how Forerunner's story ended, the final line was great.
I love Adam Strange so I get mad if he’s not written properly. That said I love this one. It’s a medical mystery that kind of relates to the story in the 52 weekly comics.
I'm not normally a reader of this storyline but it was super cheap on a clearance sale. Therefore I probably won't rate it as high as someone who is invested in the storylines. I enjoyed the story overall, but the jealous wife and her heroic Animal Man husband's marital squabbles were soap opera-ish at best. Adam Strange's sudden replacement as Raan's protector was really odd also. Felt way too forced. Hmmm after that actually the story really gets 2.5 stars at the most
I liked this storyline in 52. this book just isn't very good. Bad art, bad story and overall just.. Not good. Oh well. Starfire remains the most inconsistently written Interesting character in the DC universe.
A group of unappreciated DC characters become united in a quest to make a book that won't be a waste of your time. Sounds bad but it actually worked on it's own level.
