the author of this book is head of the forestry center here in minnesota! that is why i'm reading it. i have never read a book written by someone i knew before. so far it is pretty funny. i think everyone i know should write a book so i can read all about the thoughts they might not share on a day-to-day basis!
well, this was a very quick read. i'm still laughing that the head of the forestry center wrote it. it was 'a good story', but it was more just a run-through of what happened on his trip and the people he met. i kept hoping he would go a little deeper into his thought process and the different emotions he experienced while being on the river. there wasn't much build-up/climax to the story either. it was enjoyable to read, but mostly because i could picture the author so clearly while imagining his adventures.
Severs traveled the length of the mighty Mississippi River in a KAYAK!!! Pretty amazing feat. The book itself seemed kind of disjointed--a collection of anecdotes that don't flow chronologically with the journey. Two stars for the endeavor, but the book should really be called "One Good Topic--with some mediocre anecdotes about it."
