Ze is mooi als Aphrodite en ze is een heel bijzondere vrouw. De rijkste en machtigste mannen van Griekenland liggen aan haar voeten. Toch houdt courtisane Daphne uitgerekend van een man die niets van haar wil weten: Themistokles uit Athene.
Maar als Daphne in de oorlog door de Perzen wordt ontvoerd, rust Themistokles niet voordat hij haar heeft gevonden.


Een onderhoudende roman. Een historische roman, daar ligt voor mij toch echt de nadruk. Er is wel wat spanning maar geen thriller gehalte voor mij.

Vanderberg heeft zijn bronnen goed geraadpleegd. Ik vermoed zelf dat de schrijver Herodotus heeft gelezen.
De slag bij Marathon, de brug over Hellespont, de slag bij Salamis. Zo haal je je kennis van de Griekse geschiedenis weer op! Eerlijk gezegd was het wel in mijn tenen gezakt.

Maar het is ook het mooie verhaal van de liefde van Daphne en Themistokles.

📜 Daphne, o tânără frumoasă este capturată de persani. În timpul unei lupte reușește să scape din captivitate. Se apropie de tabăra atenienilor, sperând că va fi salvată. Însă, în apropierea taberei ia parte la o crimă care îi va schimba complet viața.

🕯️Când ajunge însă la tabăra atenienilor, înfiorată și plină de mistere, Daphne primește o ofertă: va fi sclavă sau hetairă. I se pare o alegere dificilă. Hetairă? Adică o simplă curtezană asemenea femeilor aflate la colțurile piețelor sau prin porturi?

⏳Fiind singura ei șansă, acceptă. Cu timpul învață că a fi hetairă înseamnă că ești o femeie dorita de cei mai influenți bărbați ai statului, însă doar TU poți decide cui îi oferi chiar și un zâmbet. Chiar și atunci când îți oferi trupul, nu trebuie sa lași nici măcar o fărâma de suflet să îți scape. Hetairele nu au voie sa se îndrăgostească. Este prima regulă.

📜Descoperim Atena antică, cu obiceiurile ei fascinante și bizare. Vedem mentalitățile oamenilor din trecut și participam la două războaie între atenieni și persani. Are oare și iubirea un mic loc în aceasta poveste încâlcita? Va ajunge vreodată Daphne sa îi ofere totul strategului care ii trezește ființa la viața?


Recomand cartea pentru o porție bună de aventură și istorie. Autorul, un istoric cunoscut, reușește să împletească minunat ficțiunea cu realitatea. Give it a try📖

If you are into historical books I'm sure you'll like this book about the victory of Greeks on Marathon plain, where was found Daphne the most beautiful girl ever seen in Greece. Commander Aristides took her under his protection and she became something like a luxurious prostitute called heter, but she fell in love with commander Temistokles. Book describes the war between Persians and Greeks and Daphne becomes a slave of the Persians king but Temistokles sacrifice his life to save her, after all he spent one night with her and never seen her again. Book was interesting, adventurous and easy to read.
