Catalogue Rasionne' of John Kane paintings. Includes Sky Hooks, autobiographical account as told to Pittsburgh Press reporter Marie McSwigan, first published in 1938.
This is just a review of Sky Hooks, which isn't on Goodreads and I guess has no ISBN?
Autobio of the local 'folk' artist, as told to Marie McSwain. A working man, left school young for Scottish mines, worked at some of the biggest industrial concerns in Pittsburgh and later painted houses. His early and ongoing interest in drawing and painting are throughout. His finer deeds like breaking up fights or boxing a few rounds with a famous fighter are highlighted but the editors let us know some of the lower lights like marriage separation. Kane laments his lack of art school but places work as a good enough replacement. He's humble about his art success in late life and tries to discuss his process and art. The writing is on the slight side but he had a long journey.
