Marcia Moses, whose award-winning Easy Watercolor taught beginners the basic skills of the art, now takes painters to the next step in their creative journey. These lessons are meant for intermediates, and they’re as illuminating and exquisitely illustrated as the ones in her first volume. After reviewing the fundamentals, Moses delves deeply into color (understanding its properties, creating harmony and conflict, mixing vibrant hues); techniques in action, from backgrounds and texture to layering, shading, and brushstrokes; and how to paint with feeling. See how to add figures and set them in motion. Capture views of nature, including moody skies and watery landscapes. Put all the elements together for a satisfying finished work. Above all, Moses gives developing painters the gift of understanding how to use their imagination.
This was okay as an informational book about watercolor unfortunately it did not have lots of instruction. There were a few parts of good instruction on making plants and backgrounds overall it was decent.
I didn'the really like the artist's sloppy painting "style", so that made it difficult to learn a lesson. The best thing about the book was the students' gallery, because it shows a variety of styles and skill levels.
Ms. Moses uses her own paintings to illustrate the techniques she is suggesting. Good on her. Water drops seem so easy!
She has some suggestions for different kinds of trees and flowersVery useful. Her people leave something to be desired. Her snow scenes are pretty, but her windows look like the sides of buildings; I know windows can look authentic, there is a bottle, painted by her, which is very well done. Overall I'd rate her a 6 out of 10, with her flowers about an 8. Her explanations are very clear.
due back at the library but I thoroughly enjoyed the techniques in this book and would like to buy it so that I can spend more time playing with the techniques!
