Detailed descriptions of the daily lives of forty-six families in North and South America and the Caribbean portray the work, leisure, and other social interactions of a diverse peoples.
I found this book to be fascinating - also its sister book about Asia and the Pacific. The information is dated but still good. This author spent three days in every home she visited - and she visited a representative home in every country in North and South America and the Caribbean. The state of the way people live is very revealing to this reader who definitely has first-world problems. And even though it is meant only to be an objective look at cultures, it opened my eyes to the spiritual needs of the world every bit as much as do books written with a specific Christian missions emphasis. The book is out of print but used copies can be found.
2008- This book (although now outdated) gives interesting sociological snapshots of what daily life was like for a ""typical family"" in North and South America and the Caribbean in the late '80s. Would be interested to see how the statistics in the book have changed (or not) since it was written.
