Describes seventeen fish that have peculiar characteristics and habits, including fish that spit, fly, climb trees, blow up like balloons, and sleep out of water.
These "Do the Strangest Things" books were such favorites in my childhood. In trying to remember specifically what fish were talked about I'm drawing a bit of a blank, so this volume must not have been read as often as the others. But I love the idea of introducing kids to non-fiction topics early on.
This book can be used to engage students in learning about strange facts about fishes. A teacher can read a chapter or two a day (a chapter is only about 3 pages) before the class go on a field trip to the aquarium or while doing a unit on animals that live in water. It can be read to children from pre-K to 2nd grade. I would enjoy going to the Atlanta aquarium so much more now since I learned so many amazing and cool facts about different fishes from this book(the way some get food, how some protect themselves, etc.)!
Information about fish that do strange things like climb trees, go fishing themselves, fly, heal other fish, ride on other fish, and shoot insects with water bubbles. Good illustrations.
