Middle of the road, Anglican Conservative defense of the Biblical prayerbook tradition. Fair shake on Catholic-minded Anglicans like myself. Charitable treatment of the Missal.
This is a very helpful brief survey of the Anglican books of common prayer from 1549 to the late 20th century. I think Dr. Toon would be pleased to see that so much of what he hoped for has occurred or is underway in the REC and the ACNA. His personal dealings with the REC seem to influence his discussion of that body (positive and negative) somewhat disproportionately to it's size and influence at the time of the book's writing. Chapters 11 and 12 on the modern innovations from the '60s and '70s and on guidelines for preserving our liturgical heritage provide some excellent insights (which it might be appropriate to apply even to the 1928 BCP at least with respect to it's lectionary).
