"Caf Bombshell" is a Monty Pythonesque rendition of the incredible adventures of two stuffed rabbits and their wards. Reading the novel was a lot of fun, and it lifted my spirits in some unexpected ways. This is a genuinely unique piece of writing."--Gordana P. Crnkovic, University of Washington.
This book was left behind by a colleague when she moved and I'm a sucker for a free book. I could tell from the blurb on the back cover that this was going to be a quirky book, so I knew I'd have to suspend my sense of reality a bit...but I was hoping it would be quirky in a Tom Robbins way -- where seemingly ridiculous or impossible things exist or happen, but through telling the story there's a logical enough explanation that satisfies the reader at the end. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The only thing that kept me reading to the end was the hope that, somehow, in the last chapter, it would make sense. Spoiler alert - it didn't. This book was more in line with "Welcome to Night Vale" where things are weird for the sake of being weird and no attempt is made to explain how it came to be. Maybe the author was tripping when they wrote it? Or maybe the reader should be tripping when they read it? Maybe I missed some symbolism or read it too literally, but the story made no sense to me and I was not satisfied at the end.
