This edition puts more emphasis on practical language needed in daily communication. The material has also been updated to reflect current Chinese life. The lessons have been carefully arranged to make the book as useful as possible, although the general structure of the original edition has been maintained. In addition, newly recorded cassette tapes are provided. The first edition can be used as supplementary reading with this edition. This edition has been condensed from the original five volumes into four.

Some topics are a bit outdated, but overall, it gives you a good range of vocabulary.
