I'm a fan of Art Bell's work on Coast to Coast. I'm not all that familiar with Steiger but he has been doing this for a long time and has a solid reputation. I'm also a fan of the weird and paranormal so I picked this up with high hopes.
The book sets out to be a sort of beginner's guide to the paranormal with chapters tackling subjects like the origin of humans, angels, UFO's etc. The problem with this is that the book rambles on and changes subjects at will after as little as a paragraph. Respected theories are placed alongside admitted and well publicized hoaxes and treated as equally legitimate. This refusal to even acknowledge or mention criticisms puts the book squarely in Weekly World News territory.
For those already familiar with the paranormal, conspiratorial and generally weird, there's nothing new here. For those who aren't, you could spend a couple of paranoid hours on Wikipedia and come away better informed and likely more entertained. An all around disappointing read.
This is a great book for anyone starting out in the unexplainable ! Both authors have been around so long and have researched just about all of it. They touch upon just about everything that’s ever been labeled unexplained ! On the same note they only touch upon them. But at the end of the book they list a sizable amount of book to further your research into the unexplainable !
I am a lover of books concerning the unexplained/paranormal to the point of obsession. I have heard of Art Bell and love everything he does. I just recently heard of Brad Steiger thru a paranormal podcast I am a subscriber of. I decided to read some of the 162 books he has written and this is the first book I picked up because he co-authored with Art Bell. The book is a way to look toward the unexplained to try to divulge some meaning for who we really are and to try to understand what guides us in our lives. This book is very interesting because some of the things they both talk about are a little bit out there and reminds me of something the Weekly World News might do. The book has topics ranging from Nazi Moon and Mars bases built back in the 1940’s using their rocket technology that they got help with from aliens to “Super Beings from Nibriu.” The topic talks about how aliens known as Nibriuans were the reason why mankind went from Neanderthal to what we are now by having our DNA re-engineered. The Neanderthal isn’t part of the evolutionary chain because of this re-engineering by the Nibriuans. This book was a very interesting book that has a lot of theories and speculation, but hardly any proof to back up what they had to say. It also gives people a chance to try to explain the how and why of their existence. Out of the book it was very interesting and did entertain a lot of great ideas and theories but like I said hardly any proof for it. All in all this book was a great read and some of the stories might even be believable. I always keep an open mind when reading books like this and I suggest you do also when reading this book and it might answer questions you might have if you love this type of book.
"The Source" is, basically, a beginner's guide to conspiracy theories and the paranormal. A very dated guide, as it was published in 1999 and focuses quite heavily for a couple of chapters on "end of the world" prophecies for 2000 (and even, surprisingly for the publication date, a mention or two of 2012). It also has a surprising tendency to go off topic (the crop circle chapter seems to talk about everything but crop circles for example). Considering who wrote it, it's a bit of a disappointing read if I’m honest.
