Manifest Your Destiny : The Nine Spiritual Principles for Getting Everything You Want

Rate this book
Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, affectionately called the "father of motivation" by his fans, is one of the most widely known and respected people in the field of self-empowerment. Manifest Your Destiny is a remarkable guidebook that show us how to obtain what we truly desire. In Manifest Your Destiny, inspirational leader and author Wayne W. Dyer explores the power of attracting one's needs and desires into one's life. Manifest Your Destiny is a stunning work that focuses on the ancient principle of manifesting through meditation. With characteristic insight and clarity, Dyer teaches the process of meditation as a way to streamline our thoughts, desires, and goals, and to bring what we most desire into our lives. Whether we realize it or not, we all struggle with built-in social barriers that obstruct our inner potential. When we fall into a dream state, we conceive of goals and desires that are more spectacular than those we entertain when 'awake', yet we always wake thinking, 'I can't do that.' It is this conditioned response that prevents us from achieving what we want, and it is this response that Dyer teaches us to overcome through the Nine Spiritual Principles of Manifesting, which clear away what constricts us and illuminate a new path to achieving our truest goals.

Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

This book features a discussion of "nine spiritual principles that can be applied by anyone desiring to take charge of their life. When it was initially published in 1997 Dyer also released a CD based on the "Seventh Principle: Meditating to the Sound of Creation." In summary, Dyer proposes that sound can be used to alter our own vibrational frequency so as to consciously attract people, things, and situations into our lives.

I actually put this tool into practice in the late 1990s, intent on focusing on creating a specific amount of weekly income for my technical writing business. In particular, I would begin the practice anew each Saturday with a revenue goal in mind, and then concentrate on that same amount through the following Friday. Interestingly, after just a few short weeks, I was actually able to manifest at least what I had established as the income goal for the period, and often much more.

Here is one of my favorite passages from the book:

“The tendency to bond with the wounds of our lives reminds us of how unworthy we are of receiving anything that we really would like, because we remain in a state of suffering. The more these painful stories are recalled and repeated, the more the person is guaranteed of not attracting his or her desires. Perhaps the most powerful sentence you can memorize in this regard is ‘Your biography becomes your biology.’ And I would add, ‘Your biology becomes your lack of spiritual fulfillment. By hanging onto the traumas of your earlier life, you literally have an impact on the cells of your body. When we examine the biology of an individual, we find that his or her biography is close to the surface. Thoughts of anguish, self-pity, fear, hate and the like all take their toll on the body and the spirit. After a while, the body is unable to heal, largely because of these thoughts."

Great insights! Work in progress.

• Made me feel calm + peaceful + connected.

• Now focused on the words HARMONY + BALANCE.

• I am back to practicing the sound vibrations of AW + OM.
• As well as practicing the meditation where one envisions the channel between the Root Chakra and the Third Eye Chakra clearing out, becoming unblocked and purified. Cleansing the body in mind, body, and soul on all levels. Physical, mental, and spiritual.

I learned something really neat here, the sound 'aw' is a creation sound, the sound 'om' is after creation.

'Aw' to manifest, 'Om' to have gratitude and be thankful for.

(I will now chant 'aw' in my mind in my a.m. meditations, creating miracles or anything I want to cultivate, and chant 'om' in my mind, during my bedtime meditations, to be grateful and thankful for it all.)

Breathing in is a gift of receiving, breathing out is giving our gift away. Extend this practice to bigger areas of life and see the unfolding.

Notes:
— I listened to this for free on YouTube.
— The title was narrated by the author himself; great voice.
— Narration: 02hrs 35mins 07secs

"I have the divine ability to manifest and attract what i need or desire"...this sentence from the book basically sums up the message from Dr Dyer. The central theme of this book is that we have the power within ourselves to attract to us everything that we want. He lays this out in nine principles :
1) Becoming aware of your highest self
2) Trusting yourself is trusting the wisdom that created you
3) You are not an organism in an environment: you are an environorganism
4) You can attract to yourself what your desire
5) Honoring your worthiness to receive
6) Connecting to the divine source with unconditional love
7) Meditating to the sound of creation
8) Patiently detach from the outcome
9) Reacting to your manifestations with gratitude and generosity
Overall definitely a should-read. The reason for my 3-star rating is only because some of the principles are not entirely new. The topic of Laws of Attraction has been covered before by Rhonda Bryne in her book, The Secret.

In this series, Dyer's focuses on the power of manifesting what you desire. To him, there's a lot of truth that if you ask and believe in something you shall get it. Of course, this goes against the logic of the age but some things can't be quantified, can they?

The audio series is very much about washing the garbage out of your head and moving forward with more inspiration. Real life examples are given as proof and it's up to the listener to deciee whether they believe or do not believe it.

This is a book to read and reread as I work toward living as a being interconnected to everyone and everything. I especially loved the ninth principle of gratitude for all that comes into my life -- focusing on the positive (all that is right and good) rather than the negative (what is missing). That's a great lesson for the holidays and for the start of a new year. Easier said than done!

In the age of computers and electronic devices
I am never without a book.
When I was reading this book the saying occurred to me.
You are today where your thoughts brought you you are tomorrow where your thoughts take you. By James Allen
This book is an exploration along those lines but much deeper than that.
A very convincing argument that we can achieve our deepest desires.

This is one of Dyer's early books and his writing and ideas definitely got way better as time went on! This book was dry, felt scholarly and hardgoing and didn't feel as loving and optimistic as his later works.

This one is also more religious in tone and he also says you can't manifest things until you're enlightened and less under control of your ego, something which he definitely discarded later on.

Just didn't inspire or stir me,too rule-like and regimented. Going to stick with his later works.

I'm not religious and neither is this book but to make it more comfortable for myself I just scratched out the word God and wrote "the universe" it honestly made it much better for me. Definitely brought some ideas for working on creating peace in my life and bettering myself and my ways of thinking about everything from what I love to what I might judge and how to find a healthy balanced paradigm.

Would recommend if you're ready to look at yourself and are able to forgive past, present and future you by using the principles when time arises.

If you are lacking spiritual awareness sand feel disconnected to your world around you this book gives you a set plan of how to regain purpose.

Why don’t you have everything in life you need or want? What if I told you that the greatest thing standing in the way of obtaining all your dreams is yourself? This is the message that the best-selling author, Wayne Dyer, shares with his readers in this book. He works to explain what holds individuals back from reaching life goals., while at the same time laying out nine simple principles to follow in order to manifest all the positive things one needs.

Dyer asks readers to reflect and realize their spiritual place and connection to the universe. In recognizing one’s relationship with a higher spiritual being, there is a better chance to sway the world around you for your benefit. In building a life dedicated to developing your soul’s ability to tap into a heavenly life force will bring an individual closer to achieving happiness and success. In the pursuit of the divine practices that are layered out in the nine principles, the readers will not only gain better spiritual health but at the same time improve the world around them.

Written with easy concepts and ideas in the principle it leads readers down a path they feel could be realistically followed. Each principle leads to the next and can be used in daily life practice. Dyer’s writing style I s easy to follow and is filled with positivity and humor. The author works to give readers a clear guide with bullet points of real ways they can incorporate his lessons into life. This book perfectly balance spiritual growth in a higher faith with real life application for success.

This book gave me several "ah-ha" moments. The most profound to me was the fourth principle, "You can attract to yourself what you desire". The word, "attract" was key to me, because up until this point, I thought the word to having everything I wanted was "create". It all seemed to make sense to me at this point. I've been concentrating on working hard, sacrificing (all 'creating'), when what I should have been doing is aligning my joy and happiness to attract what I want. Because, it's already out there, I just need to attract it. Light. Bulb. Moment. - for me, at least.

The fourth principle went on to say a lot more, but the above was the most meaningful to me at this point in my life.

The other principals were profound as well, and this book is worthy of reading. The only reason I gave it four stars is that it wasn't an easy read for me, and I found myself having to put it down, journal often and take lots of notes to ponder. It was more of a class for me to complete, and not a book.

I've read/listened to at least one or two other Dyer books and find them to be quite nice. They help you re-focus your energy in a healthy way. As a non-religious person, I can still appreciate the allusions to religious texts, as I recognize a lot of common ground. This is an easy read, more or less, but it took me a while to finish (two weeks), partially because it's helpful to digest the info. My mind would wander, but I'd bring it back and refocus. I've seen some of this stuff happen in my own life, so it was nice to read up more. I also enjoyed the explanations for how the ego tries to prevent us from succeeding. Or how some people are obsessed with re-telling all the ways they've been hurt instead of moving forward.

All of us desire getting our goals, absorbing all positives and favorable happenings and evolve in the direction of our favorite destiny. In this book, Dr. Dyer has presented 9 instructions for human evolution and progression in manifesting our desires and absorbing the universe’s blessings. For me, there were so many points in this book that have changed my views to the life, universe and GOD. I hope I’ll be able applying these instructions in my life and looking by new eyes at my universe.
I recommend you reading this book and seeing what is required in manifesting your destiny.

I consider Wayne Dyer to be the West's version of a guru. He has been writing fabulous self-help books for over 30 years. As he continues to evolve his own wisdom, he expertly translates complex, universal spiritual principles into convenient, readable formats that most of us can understand right away. This is one of my favorite books written by Dr. Dyer but all of his books are a good place to start for people seeking more self-knowledge.

Enjoyed this book and it had a great deal of sound advice to not only improve your life but how to improve yourself and outlook.

Here are some key takeaways:

"Say what you want to say. Say it simply. Say it directly. Say it from your heart and resist any temptation to overwrite."

There are no chapters, simply nine principles. Each principle is explained in a straightforward a manner.

When you practice these nine principles you will be given guidance. You will not be alone on this journey, and you will see your desires manifest as your destiny in your daily life.

A Summary of the Nine Principles

Each principle flows to the next, and if you apply them in this sequential manner, I can guarantee that you will begin to view yourself as an absolute miracle, an individual who is connected to the universal all-pervading spirit in such a firm manner that you know you are a co-creator of your own life and all that is attracted into it.

SEVEN
• Meditating to the Sound of Creation. This principle gives you the tools for vibrating yourself to the very sounds that are in the world of creation. These are the tools for attracting and manifesting, which lead to...

EIGHT
• Patiently Detach from the Outcome
This principle emphasizes the need for removing demands and becoming infinitely patient, which leads to...

Good read indeed

The worst Dyer book. I’m a fan but this was shocking. No case studies, not endorsed by other authors not a best seller, no personal experience.Wayne was a successful entrepreneur who became successful by doing the opposite.
Instead of patiently detaching from the outcome, Your Erroneous Zones was successful by relentless cross country promotion and 14 hour days. I’m in my 60’s and broke because I took on board this type of baloney. There are 101 great books on manifesting to read.
New Thought movement to Grant Cardone.
“Nine Spiritual Principles for Getting Everything You Want” says the cover. Really? Or is it just spiritual clickbait. Likely this book was the result of the success of the previous book Your Sacred Self. They said “That was great Wayne, let’s have something similar to ride the wave.”
So a 171 page opinion piece for broke spiritual seekers. A New Age take on New Thought.
More useful would have been his own entrepreneurial journey. But that would’ve been off-brand.

"You will know that your job is to say 'Yes!' rather than 'How?'"
"Manifesting is not about getting things that are not here. It is about attracting what is already here and is a part of you on a spiritual level."
"In the matter of prayer, it seems that we often view God as a gigantic vending machine in the sky who will grant us our wishes when we put in the proper tokens in the form of prayers. we expect to insert prayers, then pull the knob and hope that God will dispense the goodies."

I can't find the correct words to explain why I didn't enjoy this book -- I just know I didn't. It felt as though many of the "tips" were rooted in privilege. It did not describe many practical ways to incorporate manifestation into daily life, just an overall idea of how to be more spiritual.

I admire Wayne's career and life and would like to create something similar for myself. Plus, I enjoy his humor and teachings. He's extremely well read and brings in teachings from many of the great master in India as well as throughout Asia, Europe, Native American teachings, and American authors.

I listened to this book on Audible. This is something I could listen to time and time again. He has some self-deprecating humor mixed in to keep it light. His stories, his voice, and the universal perspective are meaningful to me.

I purchased the companion morning and evening meditations on Audible, which I also enjoy listening to.

I read it slowly and over a months time to try and absorb it. Some very sound ideas and some ideas that are floating in the universe. The premise that we are all connected and there is a universal energy (inteligent?), and vibrations are key, needs a closer loook to grasp, and this book leads you to that realm of thought. Laws of attraction, you are what you think, live life with gratitude and grace. It has helped me get back into meditation, which I find very helpful in calming the mind, gaining energy, and enhances my focusing ability.
