Yes, I really massively do appreciate how German publisher Oetinger often puts entire Astrid Lindgren series into one single and all encompassing tome; all of the three main "Emil" novels in one, I absolutely just love this. But why, pray, is Lindgren's Emil called Michel in German? It is not as though Emil is not a commonly used and seen German first name. And truly, I therefore have always rather wondered at this seemingly arbitrary silliness (although I now tend to think that maybe the name was changed to Michel because the publisher, because Oetinger thought readers might get this Emil confused with Erich Kästner's Emil of Emil und die Detektive fame, who knows, but frankly, I find it both rather irritating and not at all necessary). And in my opinion, the moniker Michel (for Emil) not only sounds so ultimately and wholly overly German as a name (while Emil's story is clearly depicted to be taking place in Sweden), Michel as a name itself also has a rather checkered past and negative historical connotations at best. For especially in the 19th century, the appellation of Michel was used in both German language literature and song as a negative depiction of Germany, and of the Germans, or rather of those self-satisfied Germans happy with and supportive of the authorities and willing to accept even their most undemocratic regulations (basically those afraid of rocking the proverbial boat).
Imaginative, mischievous, but generally never deliberately mean or nasty, this is why I have always liked and actually majorly adored Astrid Lindgren's Emil (and no, I will NOT ever now call him Michel, even if I am reading and love reading the German translations). For while Emil does tend to often get himself (and his sweet and compliant younger sister Ida) into trouble, he generally engages in his little misdeeds because he wants to have fun and does not think of the consequences until it is a bit too late. Therefore Emil should be considered as a spontaneous child, an often thoughtless child, but really never a deliberately bullying, vicious or sneaky child. And sometimes, Emil's so called pranks are not even this at all (well, at least in my own humble opinion), but purely just really horrible bad luck. It is, for example, simply unfortunate that Emil's father steps into the mousetrap that Emil has set (and he is truly just trying to be helpful, as the farmhouse is being overrun with and by rodents) and Emil also does not get his head stuck in the soup tureen out of malice but because he wants to slurp out the last bit of the delicious soup his mother has cooked.
And indeed, one of my absolute favourite episodes in Michel aus Lönneberga is when Emil (when Michel) invites all of the residents of the local Poor House for Christmas dinner at the family farm (after they had been unfairly cheated out of their own Christmas dinner by the gluttonous and bullying, scheming matron of the Poor House). And I for one, will never, ever consider this escapade of Emil's even remotely a prank, but yes and instead a wonderful and caring, socially conscientious gesture, one which demonstrates that above all, Emil is a sweet and kind boy with a huge and loving, socially wide and open heart. And I have always been rather annoyed (both as a child and now as an adult) that Emil actually ends up being punished for using up much of the food stored in the pantry (for a family Christmas reunion) to feed the local poor (and personally, I firmly believe and have always believed that Emil does right to make use of that food to feed the miserable and starving inmates of the Poor House, as his family's relatives are not in any manner starving, and they all still manage to get a more than decent Christmas meal). Thus and for me, that feast for the poor is a truly heroic gesture and shows that Emil cares deeply, and that a goodly number of his so-called misdeeds are thus not "pranky" at all, but rather the opposite so to speak.
But while I therefore do love and appreciate the characters and anecdotes of Michel aus Lönneberga as much as I did when I was a child (and on a thematic and contents based level), I have to say that as an older adult, I now tend to find the anonymous narrator (or more precisely, the voice of said narrator) both distracting and perhaps even rather patronising and annoying this time around. Now I never noticed this when I was a child, so perhaps children would tend to have no or at least less of a problem with this, but it was actually kind of interfering with my reading, distracting me, keeping me aloof, and not as engaged as I would like to have been. And no, I did not at all mind the narrator when I was a child, but to my adult self, he/she just seems rather like a total and massively frustrating know-it-all, who is constantly interrupting and distracting me, for I do not like having everything explained and commented on (and while Michel's, or rather Emil's story and his many exploits and such are still very much and sweetly enjoyable, rather a bit of the Astrid Lindgren's textual magic has now unfortunately somewhat dissipated due to my current and present annoyance with the patronising and to me somewhat artificial narratorial tone of authorial interference and its somewhat pedantic lecturing).

"Емил от Льонеберя" е една от най-любимите ми детски книги.
Дори сега когато я прочитам като възрастен сякаш ме връща в зимните дни до печката на дърва, когато за пръв път се запознах с Емил от стопанството Катхулт в село Льонеберя.
Ако мога да разчитам, че книга ще ме накара да се усмихна, то това ще е творба на Астрид Линдгрен.
Дори сега когато я прочитам като възрастен сякаш ме връща в зимните дни до печката на дърва, когато за пръв път се запознах с Емил от стопанството Катхулт в село Льонеберя.
Ако мога да разчитам, че книга ще ме накара да се усмихна, то това ще е творба на Астрид Линдгрен.

Metams skaičiuojant paskutines valandas iki naujų, skubu ir aš su paskutine perskaityta knyga pasidalinti savo įžvalgomis. Šiuos metus pasirinkau grynai užbaigti su vaikiška literatūra, pažadėdama sau, kad kitais metais skaitysiu jos žymiai daugiau, o ypatingai vaikų klasika tapusias knygas, nes per tiek metų jau daug kas užsimiršo ir norisi bent trumpam sugrįžti į vaikystę. Tad nenustebkite, kad kitais metais mano tinklaraštyje matysite ir daugiau vaikiškų knygų apžvalgų. Plonesnių knygų nežadu daug aptarinėti, nebent labai man patiktų ar būtų verta paminėti. Planuoju skaityti didesnės apimties knygas ir sąžiningai su jomis siekti išsikeltų skaitymo tikslų. Tad mano šiemetinį turtingą perskaitytų knygų sąrašą vainikuoja Astrida Lindgren ir jos viena iš geriausių knygų "Emilis iš Lionebergos". Turbūt sutiksite, kad mano kartos atstovai esate daugelis su šia knyga ir užaugę. Dar ir dabar pamenu kaip aš ją skaitydavau naktį, su prožektoriumi rankoje ir palindusi po kaldra, nes labai jau knietėdavo sužinoti, kokių aibių Emilis prikrės toliau. Šią knygą turbūt galėčiau pavadinti kiekvieno vaiko biblija, nes turbūt retas vaikas mano laikais jos neturėjo savo namų bibliotekoje. Bet va kur dingo maniškė net nepamenu. Tenka skolintis iš bibliotekos, bet tikrai reiks nusipirkti, nes neturėti tokios knygos kaip ši-būtų nuodėmė. Ypač, kai augini sūnų. Skaitant šią knygą, man sukilo tiek gražių prisiminimų apie vaikystę, apie savo išdaigas, kad turbūt jei būtų galimybė, jas vėl mielai pakartočiau, nesvarbu, kad tektų po to stovėti kampe, klūpėti ant žirnių, nes mano išdaigos turbūt lenkdavo netgi Emilio šunybes. Labai džiaugiuosi, kad tokios knygos kaip ši, iki dabar turi išliekamąją vertę ir vis dar yra skaitomos. O Astridos Lindgren knygos yra kažkas tokio, kad jas norisi lyg ir perskaityti vienu ypu, bet norisi ir skaityti taupant, nes tokio gerumo, kad turbūt nė nereikia sakyti. Jei ir jūs, kaip aš, esate sentimentalūs praeičiai ir kartais norite kažko tokio nuoširdaus, tyro, linksmo-paimkite paskaityti vaikų knygas ir pamatysite, kiek jose yra to vaikiško tyrumo, o dar kiek visko galima atrasti-visas devynias galybes. Ir niekada nesigėdykite, kad skaitote vaikų literatūrą, nes tai, kas gražu ir nuoširdu, galima rasti tik vaikų knygose. Skaitykite, dalinkitės ir mylėkite knygas📕Su artėjančiais Naujaisiais Metais🎉

Докато чакаме търпеливо някой учен да изобрети машина на времето, с която да се върнем в детството, все още си служим със следващото най-добро средство за постигането на тази цел – книгите на Астрид Линдгрен. Покрай честването на 75-тия юбилей на Пипи Дългото чорапче, решихме че е добра идея да си припомним повече от творчеството на знаменитата писателка, с чието име свързваме едни от най-ярките си книжни спомени от детските години. А сред тях има и един незабравим майстор на лудориите, палавник със златно сърце, благодарение на когото шведс ката провинция отдавна вече не е нито мирна, нито тиха. Любимият ни калпазанин „Емил от Льонеберя” никога не е преставал да ни забавлява, но сега вече го прави и от ново луксозно издание на изд. „Пан”, за първи път с цветни илюстрации. Das ist und bleibt mein Lieblingsbuch von Astrid Lindgren. Keines ihrer Bücher habe ich öfter gelesen als Michels "Streiche", keine ihrer Figuren habe ich schon als kleines Kind mehr geliebt, als die vom Katthult-Hof. Es war auch mein erstes Buch von ihr, das ich gelesen habe und das dazu geführt hat, dass ich - trotz der damals ständig im TV laufenden Verfilmungen - alles von ihr gelesen habe, was ich in die Finger bekommen konnte. Und auch ein Grund, warum sie alle heute noch einen Ehrenplatz in meinem Regal haben.

Jag hade totalt glömt bort hur bra berättelserna om Emil verkligen är. Kan mycket väl förstå varför Emil lär ska ha varit Astrid Lindgrens egna favorit.
Ja, den e liksom finurligt gjort alla berättelserna. Alla hyss är så kreativt gjorda. O verkligen framhäver att Emil e snäll, men de bara kan gå lite snett till ibland.
O för att inte tala om karaktärerna, de är di bästa. Kan int säga vem som är bäst, drängen Alfred som e så snäll o omtänksam. Men pigan Lina är bra rolig också med sina konstiga kommentarer. O man får int glömma Emils pappa, jag måst medge att jag gilla hans karaktär bättre i boken än i filmerna. Han var liksom snällare på nåt vis.

Ами ей това е! Биричка на фералък (теферич по севернобългарски), ветрец и Емил от Льонеберя... така се живее до 1000 години (поне!) :) Разкошна баба Астрид, уникално въображение, невероятен хумор, простотия на макс и коремни конвулсии от неудържимия смях - от стр. 1 до стр... уф, коя беше последна? А, кой ли ти ги брои - давай отначало! :)

April 17, 2019Не е чудно, че „Емил“ не ми е харесал много като дете – представям си как поне половината закачки вътре са прелетели над главата на малкия Калин. За възрастни обаче определено е забавен; сега бих му дал 4 звезди.
(И мрънкане от възрастен: това издание е страшно неграмотно. Щом ползват стария превод, защо не ползват и старата коректура?)

آسترید لیندگرن نویسندهی شناخته شدهی سوئدی در ادبیات کودک است که بارها شنیده بودم فلان کتاب جایزهاش را برد یا داستانهایش چه زیبا هستند. من در بچگی کتابی از او نخوانده بودم و درحالی که همه کلی با «پیپی جوراب بلند» خاطره داشتند، اسم کتاب مرا یاد «بابا لنگ دراز» میانداخت که کتاب موردعلاقهام بود.
دیروز چند ساعتی بیکار بودم و تصمیم گرفتم این کتاب را بخوانم. کتاب درمورد امیل، پسر شیطان و آتشپارهای است که بازیگوشیهایش همه را به ستوه آورده و تقریبا هر کاری میکند تبدیل به الم شنگه میشود. اول چندان از کتاب خوشم نیامد چون از بچههای شیطان و آتشپاره خوشم نمیآید اما جلوتر چندباری از دستش خندیدم و در نهایت یکی از دیالوگها با پدرش حسابی سرکیفم آورد. تصمیم گرفتم در مواقع بیحوصلگی باز هم از لیندگرن کتاب بخوانم و در دنیای کودکی غرق شوم.

Emil, whose name has been changed into Michel for the German edition of the story, is one of my childhood heroes. He might be a hand full at times and he is definitely driving his family crazy with all his irrational ideas, but he is also a really good boy. Speaking up against social inequality and unfair situations with his own ”weapons”, Michel is trying to contribute to a change. It’s exactly this mixture between all his mischief and his good deeds that is making the stories about Michel unforgettable.
An all-time childhood classic!

Въпреки това, тя се поразтревожи за своя Емил. Майките винаги се тревожат, когато хората идват да се оплакват от децата им.
Вечерта, щом Емил си легна с „шапкътъ“ и „пушкътъ“ си, тя отиде и приседна до него.
— Емиле — започна тя, — скоро ще пораснеш и ще тръгнеш на училище. Какво ще стане с теб тогава, като си такъв пакостник и вършиш толкова много бели?
Емил лежеше в леглото си и приличаше на същинско ангелче с кръглите сини очи и русата къдрава коса.
— Тра-ла-ла, трали-тра-ла! — отвърна той, защото никак не му се слушаха такива приказки.
— Емиле — рече майка му строго, — как ще върви тази работа, като тръгнеш на училище?
— Добре ще върви — отговори Емил. — Може да престана да правя бели, предполагам… поне докато съм в училище.
Майката на Емил въздъхна. — Е, да се надяваме — рече тя загрижено и тръгна към вратата.
Тогава Емил се надигна от възглавницата, усмихна се като ангелче и добави:
— Но то не е много сигурно!

من «پیپی جوراب بلند» از همین نویسنده رو تو بچگی خوندم و متعاقبش برای سالها، داشتن دوستی مث پیپی، از بزرگترین آرزوهای من و برادرم بود. ما جفتمون کتاب رو خیلی زیاد دوست داشتیم. خیلی وختا خودمون رو تامی و آنیکا تصور میکردیم و واقعن خوششانس بودیم که تو اون سن و سال، خاله کتی، دوست مامانم کتابو بهمون هدیه داد. با همون تصویری که از پیپی داشتم، تو بیست و اندی سالگی سراغ «داستانهای امیل» رفتم. اینجام اگرچه مشابهتهایی بین دو تا کاراکتر میشد دید، اما امیل منو سر ذوق نیاورد. اگه بخوام واسه یه بچه بخونم این کتاب رو، یکی دو تا جای کتاب هم مشخصن خوشایندم نبود. مثلن اون داستانی که اسم یکی از کارگرای قدیمی و بیادب رو گذاشته بودن رو دستشویی خونه.

Kadangi skaičiau ne viena, ilgokai užtrukau. Ir, nėr ko slėpt, skaičiau pirmą kartą. Adai taip patiko, kad į pabaigą liepė taupyt, tad darėm dar ilgesnes pertraukas tarp skaitymų :)) bet ne bėda, nes jinai visai kaip aš - gali skaityt po dvi tris knygas vienu metu ir niekas niekam netrukdo.
Tai šitos penkios žvaigždės - grynai mūsų abiejų vienbalsis vertinimas. Man kol kas tai gal net geriausia Astridos knyga, bet dar ne vakaras, nes turiu spragų. Kurias, panašu, irgi greit užlopysiu. Kažkaip Astridos knygas, be visa kita, aš atrandu kaip vadovėlius tėvams. „Lota iš Pramuštgalvių gatvės“ - kantrybės ir priėmimo, „Padaužų kaimo vaikai“ - duot vaikams DAUG erdvės, laukų, ežerų, miškų ir nestovėt krūpčiojant, kad kas nors atsitiks, - anais laikais norma, dabar - įdirbio ir asmeninio stuburo (nes ką žmonės ir visuomenė pasakys!) reikalas. „Emilis“ - mylėt savo vaiką ir tikėt juo, net jei jis didžiausias išdaigininkas visoj parapijoj, o nuo jo veiklos tau jau seniai nervinis tikas - verčiau eik rašymo terapija užsiimt, užuot burnojusi (trū, Emilio mama kaip tik tą ir daro). Ir dar ta pasakojimo ekspresija, personažų spalvos, archaika, kaimo realijos (tupykla, kiaulės pjovimas, muštynės varžytinėse) - ak, sodru ir patinka, patinka, patinka!
Tai šitos penkios žvaigždės - grynai mūsų abiejų vienbalsis vertinimas. Man kol kas tai gal net geriausia Astridos knyga, bet dar ne vakaras, nes turiu spragų. Kurias, panašu, irgi greit užlopysiu. Колкото и да е странно, не бях чела книгата досега. Астрид Линдгрен ми е сред най-най-любимите автори с книги като "Братята с лъвски сърца", Пипи, Роня... Емил познавах само от екранизацията, превъзходна, между другото, която помня от дете.
Никак не ми е трудно да дам оценка на тази книга - история, език, герои, всичко е учебник по писане на детски книги. Истинско удоволствие от четенето, независимо на каква възраст.
Съвършена в простотата си, нещо, което всъщност е невероятно трудно.

I read this for my 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter as a bedtime story book. It's one of the kids' books everyone in the Northern countries knows, and it's very nostalgic for me. Eemeli is also a good role model for my son, who is a very anxious child. I really like Astrid Lindgren, and can't wait until I can start reading Ronja and Brothers Lionheart for my kids.

Jag älskar Emil! En underfundig liten pojke som alltid vill väl men får det så fel, så ofta. Fast inte alltid. Han har ett stort hjärta Emil, till trots för alla hyss.

Една от първите книжки, която съм чел. И след първия път я прочетох още десетки пъти. И сега бих я прочел с удоволствие. Прекрасна детска книжка.
