Harlan Coben is my fave writer of mystery/thriller today...

I have almost all of his books in paperback except for the recently published ones... meaning 2015/2016

This is my one-click author and a safe haven to reach out for when i need to recuperate and refresh...

All of his books are unique, thrilling, surprisingly fresh and interesting...and i rarely guess the one "who did it" which only means he gets to trick me every time...with a good mystery twist

I really cant pick my fave book from Harlan...

All the standalones or even the Myron Bolitar series hold the special place in my heart and my book shelves...lol

And his venture into the YA territory with Mickey Bolitar series (Myron's nephew) are as eaquly thrilling and exciting....

This is an over all review for ALL the books i have read so far but never marked them on GR as "read"

So, there...justice may be slow but it catches up eventually!!!

Beginning to exhaust my hunt for the loner, the hunter as a singular and main hero...a new trend seems to be emerging, the disassociation of the hunter and conscientious hero into two separate characters: the main character and his loner side-kick. Several authors embrace this genre motif: Robert Crais's Elvis Cole and his side-kick Joe Pike and of course Harlan Coben's Mylor Bolitar and his elitist side-kick Win.

Of this genre, Coben is probably the most adept at creating complex and winning characters. His portrayal of Myron (conscientious) and Win (borderline Sociopath) is second to none. Again, I devoured these books (in order, as with all series books) and in record time and found myself waking groggy from lack of sleep thanks to Mr. Coben.

P.S. Same review for all the Myron Bolitar novels, if you've read one of my reviews of Bolitar you've read them all. How can I say that? Well, Mr. Coben as with most series authors, is a master at being consistent from one book to another and delivering a sucker punch to his readers everytime.

I have listened to the entire audiobook series and am sorry to have reached the end. Myron is a different sort of solver...not a detective, but a sports agent with an FBI background. Drafted by the Celtics his career ends before his first game when his knee is crushed in an on-court collision. Instead of pro roundball he goes to Harvard Law and then starts his sports firm. He lives half the series in his parents' basement and longs for suburbia. His cohorts are psychopathic best bud Win, partner and former pro wrestler Esperanza Diaz and her pal 6'6", 300 lb Big Cindy. I love these characters and Harlan Coben's way of getting into Myron's head. Wish there were a few more of these.

DEAL BREAKER
I enjoyed reading this book. I haven't read any Harlan Coben for a while and this book reminded me how much I enjoy his work. I love the style the book is written in. It kept me guessing.

Drop Shot
Even though I have read this one before, re-reading it still had some surprises for me and I did enjoy it. I love the way the book is written (kind of with jokes between the reader and the main charachter).

I have truly enjoyed both of these Myron Bolitar books in this "book in one." It has been so much fun getting to know Myron and his friends that I have hunted down and purchased (used) all the rest of the books in this series! I would recommend these to anyone who likes a good mystery with some action built in!

Definitely had some language issues. Otherwise it was an Ok book. Lots of testosterone flying around. I’ll read one more of the series before I decide whether or not I can handle all the macho man stuff.

This did not hold my interest. After a couple chapters I gave up and didn't finish reading it.

This one was a decent enough read. Kept you interested and wondering. Not one of his best but still pretty good.

Love Harlan Coben. Easy reads -- under 4 hours -- Myron Boltar is *almost* as good as Jack Reacher <3

I finally read the first book in the series after reading all of the subsequent books. All I can say is the books improved a lot after the first one.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Harlan Coben at a writing conference and as he alludes to when he speaks Harlan Coben IS Myron Bolitar... the look, the size, and the snarky but witty persona. And I must confess I enjoyed both the real character (Harlan) and the fictional characterization (Myron). I had been told about Coben's writing but for some reason had never taken the opportunity to read one his novels. And I realize that this one is the very first... we run across things like vivid descriptions of the World Trade Towers and other thing that have us thinking we're in a time warp. Nonetheless, the novel was clever, well written, and perhaps most important for what I would call suspense with a heavy dose of romance it kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat till the very end. The characters are a bit formulaic but not in an off-putting way and to be completely fair Coben does a good enough job of throwing in a few individuals that should fit the mold and don't... just enough to keep the story interesting. I would best assess Myron Bolitar as a Northern New Jersey version of one of my favorite contemporary detectives... Robert B. Parker's Spenser. While Myron's perfect sidekick is not Hawk he is perhaps a bit more interesting in that he possesses similar and terrifying skills but his nerdy diminutive appearance belies them. The plot is complex with numerous twists, and I will not do it an "injustice" by trying to describe it. Suffice it to say that now that I have "met" Simon I intend to maintain the friendship. Deal Breaker is the perfect fireplace read or for that matter a sitting on the back porch listening to the crickets read... 4 stars with a big plus! Buy it and enjoy!

Deal Breaker:

This is Coben's first book and it is both enjoyable and entertaining without any of the stuttering storyline or shallow characters that are often found in debut novels with this genre. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and second guessing until the last few chapters with red herrings, misdirections and irrelevant facts cropping up throughout to throw you off. There are plenty of one liners throughout that lighten what could otherwise have been a very heavy book and Myron and Win's relationship is entertaining and very well written. Overall a damn good page turner.

Drop Shot:

Coben's second book carries on with the abundant twists and turns found in the first book as well as keeping the amusing wit and dry humour of both Bolitar and his best friend Win. Although some parts of the story were quite easy to figure out, Coben does keep you doubting yourself just enough for you to still enjoy the story and the finale when it comes.

Chose not to totally finish and review this book. It is the first in the Myron Bolitar series by this author, I believe copyright 1985. The subject is a sports figure recruiter who connects potential top athletic talent with professional futures, not a subject of real heavy interest to me. And crime connected would probably somehow connect with more interest with some others than me. Children from role model families being sucked into very wrong and criminal situations, oh well. To each his or her own. And I'd recommend it for someone to whom this subject seems of interest. But, not me.

Am loving this author, in particular the Myron Bolitar character/series. He is sarcastic and often speaks in song lyrics. What's not to love? Can't get enough of this character/author. I feel like the character's thoughts are some of my own.

One of the better mysteries by one of the best authors currently writing. Myron Bolitar and Windsor "Win" Horne Lockwood III are especially memorable characters.

Most of the book I couldn't wait to finish. It was too long and convoluted. At the end I found it hard to follow, although it mostly came together in the end. This story was done in another book, but I cannot recall which one.
The authors later books are better.

Myron Bolitar is a sports agent whose clients are always tied to some crime, and Myron ends up involved in trying to solve the crime. These books always have a humorous thread running through them, and I always find myself laughing out loud throughout the book. They are always a fun read.

I'd call this series my summer reading, but I read the entire series this past fall. Interesting characters and twists and turns in the plot make this series a fun, "no brainer" read.
