Hardscrabble lives with a focus on family dynamics. The stories do tend to run together, which makes it difficult to separate them out as individual reads. Good writing that has tension and an attention to setting.
Individually, I thought these stories were good, some of them quite poignant. There were some appreciated flashes of humor, too. However, reading them all back to back, as I did, was probably a mistake, as they were quite similar in theme and types of characters, so they tended to run together after a while. Overall, a good find at the used book store.
