If you're looking for an emotional read, this is IT! I was bawling my eyes out by page 42, the heroine, Charity, was put through so much pain and heartbreak. She and Luke most definitely earned their HEA. This book will be on my keeper shelves.

TW : Rape, violence, physical abuse, sexual assault PTSD

Probably one of the saddest and tragic heroine I’ve ever read. I can’t stop bawling over her demise after the tragic loss of her baby and her husband. The saddest part was where she conjured a dream of her husband and her baby and them parting ways, saying goodbye so that she’d make peace with their death at last. My heart hurt so much during this scene.

And the ending, where she visited her stillborn Faith’s grave and bid her goodbye. Ahh I was so grief stricken!

Apart from that, I absolutely love the buildup leading to Luke and Charity’s romantic relationship. They started off as shooting partners which eventually led to a friendship after months of spending time together, with Luke training Charity with guns and horse riding practices. I love their verbal sparring and the respect grown between each other throughout their friendship, this is how romance should have evolved rather than insta-lust case which happens a lot in HR books these days.

Relatively good read. The first part of the story already has the emotions going with the young couple attacked. She has to deal with the loss but as time goes by that grieve turns to anger and revenge. She seeks the help of a gunslinger who ends up going with her to find the culprits.

4.5 stars. What an amazing tale! Picked this one up at the thrift store and I’m so glad I did!! Loved the story, the hero and heroine. This book had it all including romance and spice. My first from this author, definitely liked her writing style, captivating throughout.

This was SO SO GOOD!! Definitely a little slow in the middle but it made sense. The ending felt rushed because the third quarter was also kinda slow.

I felt like there was going to be more done with Luke’s background but I don’t think the author gave herself enough room to work with that with all of Charity’s drama being the plot.

I sort of liked the ending but not the added trauma to someone else.

I did enjoy Charity’s friendship with Mano and Luke and then her slow burn with Luke. I also really liked the whole journey and how they became even closer throughout.

I was not expecting to like this book or even cry a few pages from the end, but I did! Coming in I knew there was going to be a rape and that it would be on page so I think that helped. However it was an awful rape that made me think the FMC would believe it was her fault and think she was “spoiled” because of it, but she didn’t. She was very angry and knew it was not her fault. She also would not stand for any gaslighting by any of the people in her town. So, even though this book was published almost 33 years ago it did not have any victim-blaming of the author to the FMC or the MMC to the FMC he NEVER believed it was her fault or throw it in her face. I also feel like it handled the situation in a better way than most books including rape written around this time. I think this was what made me like the book even more.
